    Pretty certain that is the company who supplied my mini loader in kit form. That was a complete disaster, but they seem to have grown and improved. I would certainly go for the most powerful option, turning the tracks around is the hardest work the hydraulic motors will do. Speed across the ground is vital, if it’s slower than walking pace you’ll be very disappointed.

    I have never owned a Silky. At first I thought using them was were a sign of being a bit ‘light on your feet’ erroneously of course. Then I used the rationale that as I do mostly TDs I don’t need one. Lastly, I see the endless photos of cut flesh and think at this stage of my working life it’s not the time to start using them, so I resist. But I do have a classic topper scar on my inside left forearm, before anyone gets the idea I know what I’m doing.

    But that’s nuts isn’t it? (The number of injuries through handsaws) Whilst there is all sorts of dogma and absolute rights and wrongs on the use of petrol toppers, there seems to be no absolutes on handsaw use, or is there? I never see anything about it on social media, just pictures of cut forearms. Battery saws seem to run down quicker, ergo less dangerous, happy to be corrected on that though.

    What are the Italians going to do? If it’s like France there are thousands upon thousands of rural properties going for buttons. The problems come when you realise that materials and artisans are just as expensive as those in the UK. Then you find that you’ll struggle to recoup your money when you resell. That is a mistake many make, overcapitalising the property. There is a barn in my village that cost 15k, a Brit has half renovated it, new roof, wood floors, sewerage system, mezzanine upstairs, put 50k into it. Anyway he died before he could use it or finish it properly. Kids will sell it, they’ll be lucky to get the original purchase price back.

    You do wonder if there are stats available for injuries from these handsaws compared to petrol saws. When I was at college, and when I started working for other firms, we had bowsaws (I know I know, we learnt our knots from cave paintings) and you’d struggle to injure yourself with those!

    I don’t see why the contractor having lots of equipment has any bearing on what he pays the freelance climber.

    In your situation (unless it was a large back leaner over the Palace of Versailles) I would just do it.

    I can only suppose it’s higher taxation, higher costs for employment. For instance you can very nearly get three new 550xp huskys in the UK for the price of 2 here.
