  1. Ha ha! First things first, the problem with oversized stuff (although that doesn’t look that big) though pictures don’t tell the whole story, is that most sawmills can’t cope with bigger sticks, much more money to be made on 600 mm diameter stuff. Secondly, cedar isn’t that sought after, at least that’s what the guys who have forked out tens or hundreds of thousands on grab lorries and sawmills tell me, I don’t disbelieve them. Thirdly, it’s one stick, not a dozen, get real. Make your money on the tree work, if you make a drink on the wood all the better.
  2. Thanks, if you got it taken away for nothing you got a good deal.
  3. Just the standard one as a rule Lesmondo.
  4. October 2010 I joined (in my first incarnation) Its a funny business in many ways because unlike trades that are more common, like builders, we don’t get the chance to network much or regularly talk shop with others. This goes double for me isolated out here. So when the internet threw this place up on a google search for the burn ability of a sort of wood, I immediately dived in. I have learnt all sorts, fixed stuff myself I could never have managed beforehand, made some friends, been entertained and entertained others (hopefully) So thanks to Steve for that (and my new website btw) What the future holds for these forums, what with FB looking to take all this into their greedy grasp, I don’t know, but I hope there’s always room for this place. Anyway, 6pm here, time for a glass.
  5. Come on lads, we’re better than this.
  6. Free speech is a funny old business. Where do you draw the line and who draws it? Hate preachers and gubbins. It as not easy as it might first appear.
  7. Perhaps, though lots of peeps wouldn’t want unknowns turning up at their (often semi secret for security reasons) storage facilities, on the pretext of looking for work.
  8. Get on the blower, phone people up, God loves a trier.
  9. That is a very good point. There was a tree guy on FB recently who was the victim of a pile-on because a neighbour didn’t like him legitimately taking down a hollow overaged walnut in a neighbour’s garden. He popped in here to discuss it. Don’t know where it is though
  10. Retopped Douglas and sycamore removal from a walled garden. No way of getting the chip truck or trailer in so chipped over the wall and loaded the wood across with the machine. Saved a lot of bother and ballache.
  11. Hey, he spelt ’aerial’ right, he’s ok by me! How old are you Ashley? Whereabouts are you?
  12. If it’s just for self rescue and pulling over leaners, then electric is the way to go.
  13. Had a hydraulic winch on a Land Rover, good but Sloooowww. Wouldn’t have another if you’re asking.
  14. I have compressed vertebrae in my neck after a quad bike accident in 2007. So far no major issues from it, but I always know it’s there, Doc said they’ll be consequences in the future but who knows? I really hate quad bikes as a result though. Hope things smooth out for you in the near future.
  15. Dunno really, die of boredom I expect. Maybe do some gardening for beer money, after retirement.
  16. Charming! I thought she was the one with the money?
  17. I have had a worryingly serious lull, thankfully a decent day today of accepted quotes has relieved the pressure a bit. Everyone’s situation is different of course, but if you’re too far ahead you may not be charging enough.
  18. I can’t see any flail on that machine doing anything but stroking the brush. Your money of course.
  19. Need to get a closeup of the wee beasty to be sure. https://www.afbini.gov.uk/news/defoliation-ash-trees-ni-afbi-scientists-solve-problem The migration down the trunk described in this article steered me towards the sawfly. I’m only googling about though, be nice to find out for sure.
  20. I don’t think it needs to be certified, just conform to the regs.
  21. One comment on that DM article says Sawfly Larvae, he might well be right.
  22. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2655443/The-hungry-caterpillars-Amazing-pictures-millions-tiny-green-insects-swarming-single-ash-tree.html Have a look at this..
