  1. As a general rule the insects are only interested in the already dead wood. Someone might contradict me there with a greater knowledge. People are often surprised at the very shot life span of ornamental cherries 25/30 years and they’re already in serious decline. Plant another one nearby.
  2. Cherries do that a lot, I don’t know if it’s something to do with the graft. I would just leave it be.
  3. Previously pollarded oak (not by me) kicked the bucket. 6 tonnes of wood at least, spent all day ferrying it home. This was the fun bit. IMG_1608.MOV
  4. I’ve been in that Transit Mark! The only Transit worth having is a single cab, no tool box or anything that impinges on your ability to overload with chip.
  5. Thing is with a twin wheeled 3.5tonner you have a chance of looking legal.
  6. They’ve got a very good base section mind, but no top tenors that’s for sure.
  7. Short walks for Igor is the order of the day. Got to protect him from himself. He hates the water so won’t get in a stream or pond to cool off like Charlie the cocker.
  8. I knew you were mostly joking, otherwise you wouldn’t be on this forum I worked for a guy who had fishing lakes back in the early nineties. I was at a bit of a low ebb in my life, just turned 30, no direction etc. We used to have a mug of tea and chat before I started the strimming or whatever. Before that he used to have an estate agency and then ran a honey wagon business. I asked him why he didn’t just buy a load of flats and rent them out and live off the proceedings. He said “you have to be interested or like what you do, I’d die of boredom if I did that” Now I’m not saying it was a lightbulb moment for me, but as the days and weeks wore on I began to understand what he meant. As for this job at the university. If I was a just qualified climber I might be tempted as I doubt there will be much time pressure on the jobs. Plus if you’re a youngish presentable fella/woman you’ll have a lot of opportunities for discussing Ugandan affairs. Looking around various social media platforms competent climbers are very sought after at the moment, firms crying out for them, so the money on offer here looks on the low side to say the least.
  9. If doing as little as possible is a career aim then yes, you missed out.
  10. Big plane tree, shame it had to come out.
  11. He bloody hated it! Literally would run away from it towards the Ranger if I tried to take it.
  12. Dogs in trucks you say? Ah gwan then!
  13. Interesting to see the volume on that l200 tipper. If it’s more than 2m cube (usable) I’d be surprised.
  14. Anywhere in the EU is going to be problematic if you only hold a British passport.
  15. It was a foul, he was booked. We were not without sin, Sterling (our best player for a number of years) dived a bit. Best team won. Let’s get on with our pointless lives and forget about any sliver of joy we may have briefly experienced.
  16. A grand minimum for the two, plus vat, and don’t give me any bollocks about keeping anything over 3” diameter. If it fits in the chipper, it goes in the chipper.
  17. I was actually trying to come across as sneery.
  18. Nobody knows why it happens, we know when and what species are susceptible. I’d suggest until we can come up with some sort of explanation you should hold fire on the corporate speak sneering and numbers on a RA. If I was the owner of a public space with a large spready oak I wouldn’t be setting up picnic tables underneath.
  19. The Multione ones have cheese for upper tines, and the bottom ones are too long for tree work, had to shorten them.
  20. Trouble with muck grabs is that if the tines aren’t hardened you can bend the buggers easy as pie.
