  1. Have you posted a picture of the outside flue/chimney? I can’t remember.
  2. 4 is 5 here. plus we’re a bit close to the equator so..
  3. Maybe it’s just that you have no control of your legacy once you’re gone, be it from an old house or this mortal plane. Same goes for unauthorized planting trees, one day a guy will cut it down without a seconds thought. Like Stub’s three oaks.
  4. I had a older Dutch client near me who had around an acre around the house, planted it up with all sorts of small stuff, making the beginnings of a little woodland. Every time we worked there we had to negotiate dragging the branches above and around dozens of little trees that he had planted and cherished thinking of the future and the legacy he was leaving. He got ill, so he and his wife sold up and moved back to Holland. Went round there last year to look at some work for the new owners, they’d cleared the lot and put horses on it. I don’t know the moral of this story.
  5. I don’t mind dicking around on a Sunday in the workshop, but I never talk to clients or do visits on Sunday.
  6. @KateH One good thing about this job, compared to say the building trade, is our old friend ‘job and knock’ which means that for many (most?) firms you get a job to do and if you finish the job early, you finish work early, down the pub or on the sofa or whatever you like. This rewards guys who hit it hard for the first few hours, then cruise to the finish line. I can’t remember the last late finish we’ve had.
  7. ‘I find it insulting that you or others keep mentioning my wages’
  8. You won’t get one. You’ll get prevarication, obfuscation and if all else fails they’ll wheel out Covid.
  9. Take it out. Thoughtless planting.
  10. What was the upshot of that grinding work you posted in 2016?
  11. So now you know what ‘proffer’ means.
  12. I think as they say, he asked first. Go on Andy, proffer up something!
  13. Ha ha! ’our achievements so far’ Taken back control of our borders.
  14. But a real word that changed the meaning of your post, not a clear typo. I asked you the meaning (politely) you get all defensive, don’t even check it to see the mistake and make an even bigger arse of yourself.
  15. 1: It’s a transitive verb. 2: Because you didn’t know what it meant.
  16. What’s proffering mean in that context?
  17. Can’t help cos I don’t do logs. But if I did I’d get a processor, have you considered that?
  18. Difficult to say, I do work related stuff every day, even Sunday, sharpening, servicing etc. But my yard/workshop is right here attached to the house so it’s easy. On the other hand we finished at midday today so I could watch football. Theres no clear line between work and not work for me, so can’t really vote.
  19. When Iceland beat England a couple of tournaments back they had a camera in the Welsh hotel. They celebrated like they’d won the WC themselves.
  20. Comfortable enough win for England, though defence seems shaky. Rooting for the US now.
