  1. Are you sure this is correct? If so surly you can just aim to get a new ticket or 2 every 5 years to keep on top of it all. I will be very happy if this is the case.
  2. Surely just nuts and bolts through the drop sides and the ply? I welded a box steel frame to my transit and bolted the ply to that using a tapping tool
  3. Yeah that's the one. I think you need a C licence to exceed 8250 train weight. So you can't have bigger chippers on a fully loaded 7.5t truck. And let's be fair if your looking for a bigger wagon you kinda need a decent size chipper to fill the bugger.

I agree with the point you make about the chipper not being brought for the customer specifically but the point I'm making is that to do our job we need a lot of expensive equipment where as another tradesman may only need a handful of tools. Of course I'm not going to charge someone 2 grand to do a 10 minute job and hedge trimming etc tends to get but in at a lower price as its more of a luxury for people rather than a necessity also if the price is too high they will just do it themselves and rightly so. Where as a take down isn't something your average member of public would like to risk doing themselves therefore you can look at charging a little extra.
  5. Why risk felling a tree in that situation if you've got time and money on a dismantle? At least do a bit of rigging to make it safer and look more professional. If a customer gets funny about a price with me (after they have agreed at the time of the quote) I just explain to them that the cost is in the £20,000 chipper, £1000 insurance, £2000 tools, a year or 2 at collage, the cost they would pay to get rid of the brash and logs themselves and that I have put the A team on their job. They usually say fair enough after that plus I don't feel like a right prick as everything I have told them is completely true. They wouldn't think twice about spending £20,000 for an extension that is up in 2 weeks. But as said before try and not tell them how long it will take, I know you can't always do this.

  7. Nice one mate. I like you camera angles, and the music make it seem like a very calm bit of work. Makes a difference to the normal drum&bass and sound of chainsaws revving at full pelt. Good work.
  8. It's tough but that part does get easier. When our little girl was bird (my second) she would scream all night with no let up and then sleep during the day. It put a hell of a lot of strain on mine and my girlfriends relationship too. But try as many different colic remedies as you can, something should work. Get as much rest on the weekends as possible and remember your partner is in the same boat so try and stay calm with her as well, praise her as much as you can (no doubt you do already). It's bloody tough but it gets easier I promise and you'll look back on it and think it hardly lasted any time in the future. Congratulations mate and just keep your head down and get past this first stage. You'll be fine.

  12. My misses knows how hard I work as she has been on jobs with me. Mind you she is a better groundswoman than some lads I've work with. She is a gardener and grafts pretty hard too. I guess I'm bloody lucky to have a misses who understands and is enthusiastic about my career as I am hers. But as said before just ignore it, you can't teach people who don't have an interest, you'll just be pissing in the wind.

  14. No you have to do the C1 then do the C1+e it's a pain in the arse mate. I have my b+e and was looking in to it about 6 months ago but found out I'd need to take two tests to tow my chipper in a 7.5 tonner.

  18. Climb up through the middle and start from the top with 1000 fishing lines tide to your harness, cut branches with silky or sexy queers and tie each one off. At the bottom tie all the lines to a rigging rope, pop on the tow hitch of that lovely new navara and drive like you've just robbed a bank. If it works it will be very satisfying.

  21. Stefan you got off lightly from what I can tell. My misses would have probably kicked me out for a week after a stunt like this. Unless she sprung it on you last minute in which case other commitments must come first. But it sounds like this one was planned. I work hard and long hours including weekends but I will always make time for the misses and the little'un otherwise I would not have these rocks in my life. Don't take what you have for granted otherwise you will regret it.
  22. what ones? in the picture? Surely most tyres are aimed at small cars which weight about the same as a chipper.
  23. point taken. I'll pop the spare on and get to new ones. Think I'll order them in to the garage and get them changed Thursday afternoon. have a couple of little jobs in the morning and then some free time.
  24. I'll check the loading for the tyres but I can't imagine them being to great for a 950k chipper. Thanks for pointing that out though.
  25. Hardest and most knackering job is looking after kids on a rainy day. I'd happily spend all day rigging pops as opposed to looking after the kids. It is a hard knackering job and I have some weeks where come the weekend I just want to sleep but I'm sure there's plenty of other jobs out there that are harder. But yes it does piss me off when I get someone on my case about falling asleep on the sofa at 9pm. I think a simple eff off would be a acceptable response.
