  1. What's the address? Might be worth a little extra drive to save a fair bit of cash
  2. I'm having to schlep all the way to Swanley now.. Paid £82 for 1.6 ton. It's crippling
  3. My local green waste site had his planning permission declined so has obviously now stopped taking green waste. Early reports and sightings indicate that fly tipping has gone up. Obviously there are other factors, but in this world of waste that we live in, why would they make it difficult for someone who is trying to facilitate recycling?
  4. Greenfields didn't get his planning permission and can only take waste until November
  5. Quite a good read this thread... Anyway, price accordingly I think we all know whether you can straight fell or whether you're gonna need a GRCS.. I think Gary said this earlier on as well, but we once had a guy moaning about the cost because it only took a day; he thought in his DIY, accountant brain that it was going to take 3 days! When we posed the question "Would it be ok for us to charge more if it took 4 days instead of 3?" He paid within the next couple of days!
  6. I have a large Rock Exotica rigging karabiner that's aluminium. its really good. Have taken down some big pieces with it too
  7. This sounds like a deeper problem; it clearly starts higher up and the crew leader is taking advantage of what he can get away with. If he (the boss) quotes a day on a tree and it takes 2 days with nothing said then this will get exploited by weak individuals- the crew leader. My boss is on the phone 5-10 times a day asking for an update and how things are going. He knows exactly how long a job should take and if he thinks it's going tits up he'll take over. I don't think by confronting the crew leader you're gonna get very far. Keep your head below the radar, carry on working hard and look for a more efficient company to work for - there's loads of people looking for good climbers.
  8. My one is the 'donkey saw'... Gets absolutely abused. Still going. Sub £200 can't go wrong
  9. Depends where abouts in southeast, but Provender nurseries are pretty good. With account you get 50% off list price
  10. Pop in for a cuppa if nothing else
  11. Can't upload the last one.. Tried twice
  12. Ah ok, fair one, it's pretty fresh still. Let me take a pic and I'll upload it
  13. Hey! I'm in Bromley! I've got some horrid lumps of pine if you're interested haha!!!! might be able to get a small postbox out of one
  14. What!!!!! You got a 3120????? I just got my 661 to make sure I had a bigger saw than you and you go and do that to me?! Haha. You're gonna have to bring that on our next outing mate!
  15. I work for a medium size company and when things have gone missing from the van it was because they left things in there and didn't lock it. Makes you wonder how many times people actually try the door handles of the vans. So I agree that keep popping out to the van is a good idea. Always lock it. Don't leave kit in the van. If it's not in eye shot, they will get it. We caught some little kid sneaking all the way into a customers drive to get stuff! I thought it was the customers kid until he bolted!
  16. I recently had a couple of quotes and they asked what I was qualified to. If you're doing aerial tree work without relevant qualifications and they still insure you then your premiums are going to be higher; surely? If you're doing aerial tree work without qualifications and something goes wrong and you need to make a claim, I reckon getting a payout will be very difficult. Insurance companies do not want to pay out and if you're doing work you're not qualified to, then it's a no brainier really. You think they'd pay out if an unqualified gas man blew up a house? I doubt it and on pronciple there's no difference. They will do anything to wriggle out of a claim, no two ways about it. Go with Arb specific insurance companies, I just had a reasonable one from Arborisk
  17. You're not alone mate. The fact that you've reached out says to me you're having a rough time. Support networks are good as well. Ie people in the same boat. Where do you live?
  18. Mate, I know exactly how you feel. We had it with our first who is now 3. We also have a 5 month old boy as well. It's hard mate, it really is. My 3 year old is mostly having a meltdown all day, and I mean serious tantrums over nothing. Yesterday I walked up the stairs before her and she had a 20 minute fit, seriously. Could your baby have colic? Could be a reason for the constant crying. If not, we got our kids to sleep through most of the night by being quite harsh. We let them cry themselves to sleep (we'd only leave it about 20 mins and then go in and reassure them) it took only a couple of evenings and they rarely wake (the 5 month old once or twice for a bit of tit and that's it. Try 'baby white noise' on you tube. You'll find hours worth of white noise and for my first (who cried a lot) was great. It was quite amazing actually because as soon as you pressed play she instantaneously stopped crying!!!! It was quite short lived though. Also, a good carry technique is to hold them with your arm through their crotch, belly to belly and cradle their head; walk around or rock them and it seems to work. Be safe mate, 3/4 hours is not great for concentration levels. Although still with risk, perhaps a bit of ground work might be less of a risk than working at height? Could ask your boss see what he says.
  19. Yeah, fair play really. I would have charged him around £150 for that. He saved a few quid.
  20. Ah you again!! You make me wanna go and buy a battery powered top handle!! Is it still going strong? Nice vid by the way.
  21. I too worry about the next generation.. I was in the supermarket the other day and at the checkout one loose item came through. He held it up, red faced, and with a nervous chuckle said that he didn't know what it was to input the correct code, or whatever... It was a clove of garlic and the guy was about 18-19. I hope there are more academic types than I believe I see in day to day life. There seems to be a lot of youngsters that are more worried about their hair and how they look than anything real. I believe music and music videos are playing a big part in the way the youth sees the world and this blinkered view of reality that people in the public eye portray. Some of the videos and lyrics out there are mind blowing.
  22. i was gonna get all pretentious and say some quinoa and sesame seed health bars; but we all know a snickers and a pack of mccoys carrys all the energy one needs
