1. Yes Bill…...
2. Yeh the plug was a bit black , the deposits went right up around the core of the plug. I will try the carb settings tomorrow . If that doesn't work I will have a look at Spud's idea ………. Roughly how much gap should I be looking at ??? Started it up inside the boat tonight to test it !! NOT a good idea !! 'cus it wouldn't stop !!
3. Hi….. I have a TimberPro multi tool ( don't laugh ) and it has been a bit of a pain to start it the last 3 months. When you pull the starter cord it will try and yank your arm off. It also refuses to stop running after starting , unless you rev the engine. Other than that , it has been sound . I kinda suspect a timing issue ?? I took the flywheel off to check the flywheel key , for shear , but it was fine. There are some deposits in the spark plug , not sure what. Maybe there is too much oil in the mix , but I am pretty keen in that respect , making it " dieseling". It seems quite a high compression. 52cc engine. Any ideas anyone ????
4. I use a "Lidl" electric sharpener when I sharpen up the chainsaws the volunteers use at the Canal Centre…. they tend to get a bit abused…….It is great for achieving uniformity in teeth size and cutting angle and takes no time at all to whizz through a 14/16" chain , but I find that it doesn't give you that "hook". I always finish off with a hand file and obviously just do the depth gauges when necessary.
5. ……think I need to eat more pies !!
6. Well …… I didn't get time to go out and get a mulcher today and ended up using the metal 3-bladed option. Did the job but probably took a bit longer and also "mowandgo" , I managed to hit a metal pipe ! Now that you have just mentioned it ! Before I started ( as this was it's first outing ) I made sure there was enough grease in the head-gear. So that was fine. Whilst running the strimmer , there were a couple of occasions where on re-starting the strimmer , it was a bit reluctant and sometimes it was bogging down ( poor throttle response ) So , tonight , ( 'cus I'm a sad old gal ) I checked the muffler/ exhaust outlet and also the fuel filter which seem ok ( new filter ordered just in case ). Sparkplug is fine , so tomorrow I will have a play with the carburettor settings….seems like the next thing to do ? ……back to sharpening the blade …….
7. I did my CS30/31 a couple of months ago. The college used Husqvarna. I used my Stihl 261 CM I did have a go with one of theirs and was interested to note that they were a bit lighter. ( think they were 550's ? ) May have been a bit more revs in them too…. I didn't dislike them but , they had outboard clutches as opposed to my inboard on the Stihl…… ( gonna get some remarks now ….! ) and from a maintenance point of view I found the Stihl easier to work on…….. ….. but then I'm a girl !! :-)
8. Thanks Guys
9. Hmmmm ….After watching that video "Hiluxstihl" , I need to say something along the lines of ….." have to get my axe and do some grinding !!
10. WICKED !!
11. Just picked up an FS300 off ebay and it is a 2005 model.. Seems to be a good runner and starts on the first or second pull. i was thinking of using the 3-bladed knife for some brambles that I need to clear , but then thought of getting a mulching type blade……. Question is : Is it worth it ? Or will the 3-blader be good enough ? I now seem to have an MS261 , an HS45 and an FS300……….. think I have Stihl-syndrome Now I need to get some work , to pay for it all …….. !!
12. Impressive video …… could I do that muffler mod on my 261 c-m ?
13. Cool…… just ordered one for my 261 …….. just in case
14. Well …… This has proved to be a popular Thread If I had to choose between one of you lot or my 261 , the 261 would win

21. A large transit van came round to the canal centre today in Warwick, with two "irish" guys in it …….I didn't find out until later , when I was chatting to someone that spoke to them , that onboard they had a new Husky Saw with a 20" blade on it ( model unknown ) …. apparently they were wanting £145 for it !! Large grey transit with Irish number plates………..

24.
Thanks….. that's not my boat !! My boat is moored further up the canal……. I have a different design boat …….

25. what are the vibration levels like ?? I had a Hyundai chainsaw that had vibration levels nearly 3 times higher than my Stihl 261……. needless to say ….. it ended up on Ebay :-)
