  1. I thought they would encourage the trapping and killing of mink in a humane way of course as are they not regarded as an invasive species that decimate our native species? Perhaps I am just being naive.
  2. Why did they take her traps?
  3. Rhododendron, because the more I burn means that there is less growing. Plus it makes a nice fire wood, burns well and I usually don’t need to split it as the pieces I process for the wood stack are roughly in the 3 to 4 inch diameter range.
  4. Going to have to try an X21 been reading on here for years about them but never bought one to try, I keep on plugging away with my Roughneck one, probably do about 10 to 12 cube a year. My wife is always wanting to know what to get me for Christmas so guess it is the X21 this year. Back to the OP just to pick up on a couple of the points, @Rob D at chainsawbars always gives great service for new chains and bars, I split when green, just a couple of strokes with a flat file on the rakers at every sharpen.
  5. Up that way last week to walk up Ben Nevis, some people are just simple minded knobs leaving litter about the place, the place is beautiful why do they think it is ok to leave litter about the place including toilet paper........idiots. Apologies for the thread divert JDon

  7. That’s repaired well Rich
  8. Angle grinders, chainsaws and table saws must be up there with the biggest cause of hand injuries to the working man. See my avatar for my attempt at cutting my leg of with an angle grinder. My wife always gets on at me for picking up lots of minor injuries just little nicks, bumps and cuts but I ask her if she would want me sitting in the house all day watching tv, getting grumpy and getting fat, at that she tuts mumbles something that I can’t hear due to hearing damage and leaves me alone😀
  9. For balancing I use the Oregon blade balancer costs about £6 from Amazon or eBay, it is basically a stepped cone on a small spike, simple and works well.
  10. I think I asked you before but what transformer do you use, is it a microwave or neon sign one per chance?
  11. Good offer but we are at the opposite end of the country. Think I have shown some of his work on here before, wait and I will have a look............ Yip this is a reject side table I took from him when he wasn’t looking😀 last year. Sorry for distracting on your thread.
  12. Nice work. My mate who makes tables (likes to use resin) was wanting to get into Lichtenburg burning but I managed to put him off the idea as electricity and him don’t mix, if he had gone ahead with it I would be one pal less.
  13. They haven’t moved for a while so: still too dear
  14. Looks like a dear one to me
  15. Ohhh that looks good
  16. I use a bright spray paint usually blue or red band on things like axe handles, 7lb hammers etc that I take into the woods
  17. My mate has made T light holders if he has left over whisky barrel staves, usually either 3 or 5 T lights per stave depending on size of stave. He tends to give them away as pressies. Noticed our local garden center is selling very similar for about £35 each.
  18. Let’s see the pics, well done for trying, they will only get better as your hand skills and technique get better. Everyone is the same learning a new skill.
  19. I had a ply floor down fo best part of a year, purely because I hadn’t bought the laminate to go on top of it as other things kept getting priority. Must admit I liked it, think it was only about 6mm thick to even out some wonky floor boards, as above I would put some of Screwfix own brand water based floor varnish just to seal it, I didn’t bother as I knew I would be covering mine eventually.
  20. Just as a by the way, I got one of the particle meters for Christmas and I have had it on since then. When the fire isn’t on it registers about 1. When the wood burning stove is on it goes up to between 8 and 25. The surprise was when my wife put on the tumble dryer today it went up to 250.
  21. I’ve been watching “diesel creek” recently mostly about an American bloke who buys diesel plant at a near by auction and sorts it up. Been good.
  22. Can’t answer any of questions but one comment re pumps. I have a 16kW multifuel stove, thermo siphons the hot water to a 200L hot water cylinder directly above in loft, pipe stat on return pipe that puts on a pump to feed 5 rads once the return temp reaches 55deg C, switches back off again at 35 deg C. The point of the story is, the fire was going full tilt last night and was at 50 deg C and rising fast when we got a power cut, I immediately throttled back the fire by closing the vent and it held at 51 deg C for the next 3 hours until the power back on when we restocked the fire and opened the vent back back up. PS to answer above: F and e is feed and expansion tank, this means it is not a closed pressurised system and there is a small header open header tank with a ball cock which will top up low water.
  23. In industry we called them spider couplings, usually between electric motors and gearbox’s, noted I am not the first to mention spider coupling on this thread.
  24. I have a MIG welder and an inverter stick welder, I use the stick 95% of the time, for the same reasons mentioned above.
  25. Gave 3 or 4 lumps of rhododendron to a friend of a friend who is into his wood carving made me a serving spoon out of one of the lumps, well pleased with it.
