  1. The original post was about oil, filter and diesel filter. Not full service. Around ten minutes work. Explain (barring unforeseen problems) how it would take significantly longer.
  2. To be fair peteB, you would say that wouldn't you? It takes 10 minutes. Saves 50 quid, and also you know it's being done right. Fine,I understand some people don't want or think they can perform the simplest of maintence. Surely though, in this biz a modicum of mechanical know how is desirable?
  3. Suit yourself. If you can change the blades you can service your own chipper. It's childsplay.
  4. I never claimed anyone was overcharging. But if it's a matter of an oil change plus air, fuel and oil filter it's so easy just do it yourself. A small amount of mechanical nous can save a lot of money.
  5. Undercut as much as you dare (not a gob, just the width of the bar) Shave in the sides a bit, then a top cut directly in line with the bottom cut (as fast as possible obviously)
  6. He asked about an oil change.
  7. Meh....
  8. Yep, agree on all of the above.
  9. Oh right, gotcha.
  10. The link just goes to your Facebook page, am I missing something?
  11. He doesn't want experience he wants money. He can still do tree work, just top it up with hedges, lawns etc, plus send the wife out to work! Keep your head down, stash away as much as poss. Bobs your uncle, he's got the deposit.
  12. Best advice yet, simple, obvious, but absolutely right. Maybe keep your job and start just at weekends. Much easier than going through the hassle of moving abroad just to move back.
  13. So buy it if you're that keen. I would have thought this is exactly the type of thing you described when you talked about engineers building stuff of no use in that other thread on 4x4 tippers.
  14. I cannot see how having some ridiculous impractical truck like this is cost effective advertising. Unless your target market is 12 year old boys.
  15. White elephant. Anyone who buys that wants their head examining.
  16. That'll come back lovely!
  17. Happened to me once, just tell them to keep cutting the suckers. It'll give up after a season or so. Pops are the worst. Chestnuts not as bad.
  18. Anything Japanese will see you right.
  19. Financially it's important to differentiate between trimming the top and lowering it. Amazing how often clients will mention in an offhand manner "oh can you take a foot off while your trimming it" not realising that means a thousand cuts with a saw rather than a few sweeps with the hedge cutter.
  20. I had a 25hp TW, alright and all that but not a patch on the 35.
  21. All about species, what sort of hedges are we talking about? Annual trim or lowering?
  22. Great story, where's that photo?
  23. I don't need to read any more posts after this one (I will of course!) because this is bang on the money.
  24. Gravity and lack of reduction pruning. Agreed
  25. Willows break up a lot, looks to me like a simple mechanical failure.
