  1. I always use a duplicate pad, write out the quote there and then. Often it gets you a yes on the spot. I just use a generic one with a company stamp at the top. If it's a small quote ie under 5 grand I can't see terms and conditions being an issue.
  2. Newer does means better. Of course you can't guarantee you'll have work in two or three years, but that's the uncertainty of business.
  3. 13 years ago I got finance to buy a nearly new transit, best I could afford. Still got it, it's semi retired now but comes out a few times a month. Best ten grand I ever spent. My advice, borrow if you have to.
  4. Good news, it's great when it's a simple fix ( although it rarely is!)
  5. It would just stall if you were feeding it too quickly. I had a mate with a TW 125 where the stress control went. Worst case scenario you'll have to buy a new one. Not cheap as I recall. 400 odd quid.
  6. Yes Tbh, what do you think looks wrong?
  7. Out of curiosity why change to a single roller?
  8. Blocked hole on the bar? Sounds obvious but it's surely something simple.
  9. Apples and pears.
  10. I have a 395xp and as a comparison a 066, husky 288, 076, 372. The 395 is the best ( the 066 is 15 years old but runs it very close) partly cos its new of course. New is good, can be a pig to start. I like it a lot.
  11. For my part yes.
  12. He wants to be put through his chipper? You don't get more motivated than that!
  13. Thanks Pete. Common sense really.
  14. John, you are completely hatstand!
  15. Why would you care What hse says, if it tips you'd struggle to stay on, by instinct you'd step off. You'd need a Brian Harvey style incident to need a rollbar.
  16. You stand on a back plate on the boxers. What would you need one.
  17. Considering the general price of gear in this industry 700 quid seems a fair price.
  18. How can you effectively prune an umbrella pine? (Asking for a friend)
  19. Actually it will always be "that tree company" that ballsed it up. As for reputation, his reputation as a guy who can get a job done is enhanced. Sure next time he can be prepared better. If people hear you walk when you see a tree rather than figure out a way of doing it the phone will stay quiet. Ps if you rarely rig preferring to cut and chuck. Well depends on the tree I guess.
  20. That's the spirit! It's jobs like that which separate the men from the boys.
  21. Might find you'll be growing a large crop of mushrooms.
  22. If you can't do it, don't do it. Sounds like you can't. Lowering off your own line, naughty but most people I've worked with will do it oftimes. Old climbing line is fine for lowering within reason. If you are subbing for this guy its up to you to have the gear, you should have some kind of lowering line in your kitbag. As others have said cars underneath causes new problems. Aerial rescue? Would be nice but in practice........
  23. Why not use football shin guards?
  24. Yes agree, pretty much all year round. Hard frost could cause browning off (or not) best avoid just in case.
