  1. That's why I asked Khriss, I wasn't too sure, knew it was oily, but because it's so dry, thought it best to ask advice. Chimneys in good order.
  2. Can't get out of the house, mate, to borrow one. Burnt a couple of bits this morning, seems ok. I'm just supplementing the chestnut I have left.
  3. Yes, caravan park. Dirty boy!
  4. Totally agree. My nephew on my wife's side, left The Royal Marines a couple of years ago. Played football for the Corps. He's just done a back to back marathon from Glasgow to Edinburgh and back for the Royal Marines Charity. When I left the Army I worked as Emergency Response Supervisor for BP Wytch Farm Oilfield. Our response base was just lower down from Royal Marines Poole.
  5. Thanks mate. I only light the boiler for hot water and one rad in the sitting room and one small one in the bathroom, the other eight are off. I find that one small fill is enough for the water and warm the house up.As to the humidity, we've had 3 months of non stop rain upto one month ago, but with the sun and wind on the pile it's dried out remarkably quickly. I don't usually stockpile outside as I have a wood shed, open at the front, which will take around x20, maybe more, metres cubed of logs. My colleagues dropped a pine for one of my neighbours and the cedar for another. He gave me the rounds, I ground out the stumps. I don't usually get free wood. My boiler flue, and my front room wood burner, are swept every July. I do check the boiler walls for unburnt tar, non at the moment.
  6. No hissing. When I split it within 2 days of cutting, it had the usual crap coming out, but now seems as dry as a bone. I'll obviously check the moisture content as I work through the pile. Thanks Dan, I assumed it was ok but it's a first for me with cedar.
  7. I have some cedar, cut into 30cms thick rounds directly after dropping the tree last August. I've split the rounds, stored some under cover but the main bulk is stacked outside. My question is, is it correct that after 9 months I believe that you can burn as firewood? The moisture meter is reading between 5% and 7%. This is from the outdoor pile. My colleague gave me the wood alongside a quantity of pine, which I have no intentions of using for at least three years. I've just thrown one piece onto a really hot fire of chestnut in my boiler, it seems to go ok. I'm running out of wood now, I've bough €2600 since January last year, hence the question of the cedar. Thanks chaps.
  8. I'm fairly sure that this belt wear has been brought up before, Stuart. It was as the grinder came on the market. Is this the dealer near Nantes who Darren is having problems with? Glad I didn't bother dealing with him when I thought about buying one.
  9. With statements like that, I'm feeling a certain sense of kinship. Good boy.
  10. Could leftie baiting become the new blood sport? I shall put my vast computer like-brain into action.
  11. Yep. Had a think. I'm, as usual, totally wrong. Is the word "Wankers" socially accepted on this forum? I don't want to upset anyone.
  12. Not I. I thought that the Left were compassionate to the extreme. Surely you're wrong? This needs some thought on my part.
  13. I like her. Just the man for the job.
  14. Just been announced by Macron another 4 weeks isolation. Upto 11th May.
  15. It's the guilt of being a roaring success that's weighed my shoulders down, hence the "artistic angle" of my photos.
  16. No. Fairly near to a river on flattish land. I'm just off to give Young Demsey some of my extensive knowledge regarding successful wisteria cultivation.
  17. Michael, a lesser man than I would gloat at your wisteria. However, if you remember, I only bought the house two years ago so I can't claim any credit at all. AJSTrees actually complimented me on the training. Bugger! I was going to be rather pompous then realised you might click.
  18. The wisteria is all out now on all three walls. The amount of pollen floating around is incredible this year. You can taste it in the air.
  19. Gary, he's a horrible, bad tempered bugger, you would never get near him. He'd have you as soon as look at you.
  20. This is another shot of my daughter's Welsh terrier, Buster the Bastard. Yesterday whilst going around their lake, he spotted a 4 foot long snake swimming, in he went, dragged it out and proceeded to savage it. He flicked towards the daughter, she screamed and ran off, in he went again, snake now in two pieces. No photos as she'd forgot the phone. Tally so far is: 50ish coypu, several foxes, a roach, now a snake. Photo is him surveying his domain on my grandson's fishing chair.
  21. Stubby, I'm cutting my grass every three days without collecting the cuttings, it's a mass of dandelions and daisies everytime. I like it for the bees etc. Not exactly like Lord's Cricket ground but still looks stunning. My wisteria is nearly out on all the house walls, I will take a photo tomorrow to show the difference from the first photos I posted.
  22. Jcarbor, Commando, Jesse etc. This is for the Bootnecks on here. This is a tribute left in our local town in honour of the Cockleshell Heroes who ended up getting to Ruffec after the action near Bordeaux. Spirited away by the local Resistance. Fascinating story, The Royal Marines are rightly proud of their exploits. If you don't know the story, non Marines, Google it.
  23. France is a very big country, cops can't be everywhere. We are in a very rural position, I don't expect to see coppers descending on builders flouting the situation. I'm certainly not going to ring them to inform them. It doesn't mean I'm happy with it all. I went out the other day when one van pulled up, driver got out, threw his fag away then gobbed on the road near my house. He got more than an earful, told to park his wagon down the way from my place. I get on ok with these lads, but that was beyond the pail for me. There is no way that I am putting my family in harms way with people who don't give a stuff, we've been through enough crap this past month. I'm more than capable of standing up for myself, my wife can't.
