  2. Eddie can be as happy as he likes, but any struggling cutter cannot afford the cost of aspen, and lets not all go away thinking its the best thing since sliced bread, there is issues with Aspen.

To honest with you this was not the machine out there, it is basicaly a 236, an American built hobby saw, air leak maybe, the main bearing sit in rubber carriers which also incorperate the crank seal, it is a full stip to replace these, they were very prone to shed there maun bearing cage, which will nip the piston ring in, again replace bearings, and possibly piston, please check easy /cheap things first, fuel filter in the tank, split or cracked fuel hose, gaskets between the carb and manifold, gasket between manifold and cylinder, there is no gasket between the the cylinder and crankcase, here you have instant gasket, try re sealing, carbs were not the best, you need a special tool to adjust the jets as they the screws have splines, if they came from e bay who knows what can have be done to them, try just richening the H screw.

    All UK spec 455 machines were on .325 pitch chain H25 64E 15" H25 72E 18", some American import machines were on 3/8 pitch, these were bought off E Bay or the like.
  5. 236 and 2234 is the same saw, both hobby saws built in the US, neither are great, 135 is a far better saw.

  8. This is quite normal, it is to allowed the tank to flex this was to stop the tank cracking at the front.
  9. Saw one a while back, but what on earth would you to do with it, it would be a sort of shame to strip out the useable parts, it wants putting putting in a case in a dealers show room.
  10. Just a word of warning, if the clutch is spun onto the crank with left hand thread, you should never run the saw with the bar removed, the clutch can spin off on the over run, once off the shoes and spring fly off the spider, this can cause serious injury, if you have to run it with out bar and chain, remove the clutch.
  11. The inertia brake will fit straight on, however i have found a complete old style brake if you want it, it is army green though.
  12. You cannot fit the plastic hand guard, this was only fitted to the inethia brakes, you may struggle to get a hand guard for it, all the parts for the old brake are noe obsolete, i will check some old bits i have for that brake, but be aware there are no bands available for it so if the budget will go for it fit the later chain brake.

This is an early 281 ( looking at the swed o matic brake ) there were two different carbs, a governed one ( brass jet screwed into side of the carb ) and a non goverened carb, both would start at at one and one on each jet, and tune from there, a machine of this age will need a new fuel hose and filter, also make sure you have a good connection on the wire from the coil to the electronic box.
  14. Husqvarna do a nice set T handle 3mm 4mm 5mm 6mm and a 8mm socket part no, 504900006. ball ended screw drivers 3mm 502508601 4mm 502508701 5mm 502508801.
  15. Used to get similar problems on AYP mowers, turned out to be faulty micro switches, either under the seat, or the clutch pedal, there should be a single earth cut out wire from the engine, diss connect to rule out a micro switch issue, just a thought.

If you do it make sure the leg is well fixed to a log or it will drag them into the saw, the biggest problem can be the sprocket nose in the bar clogging with fibres, cut straight across the leg and not at an angle, or near the seam, just remenber a saw running at full throttle with no load will well exceed 20 meters per second so dont be surprised how many layers it goes through.
  17. I would be a bit worried a 560 was not starting, are you sure this machine hasnt suffered a siezure.
  18. You pay ypur money and take your chance, i have seen good and bad, quaility control seems to be an issue, poor coatings, poor port chamfering, but i have to say some of the prices are crazy cheap.
  19. There is no washer here, i have seen this before to the extent that the drum comes away from the oil pump drive gear,i do not think it is wear in the crank, there is nothing wrong with end float, as long as the sprocket does not come out of the oil pump drive gear.

    You can fit a 242 cylinder & piston straight onto a 42, not just the cylinder, has to be both.

    Same saw but for the cylinder, the 42 has an open port, unlike the 242 which has a closed port cylinder, there is a fair difference in revs and power between the two, the 42 had a Gilerdoni cykinder from Italy
  22. Should have said be very carfull removing the clutch if you do not have the correct tool, the spider is made of a sintered material and will snap the legs off if you hit them, the tool is part no. 530031112
  23. Sorry Stubby, complety different lenght to the 50/51 this is the Poulan clutch as fitted to the Husqvarna 36/41/136/141/137/142 the spring is part no. 530094188
  24. Dont give up with it, it could be a cheap fix, it was fundamently a good saw.
  25. No they were pretty reliable, if it has been stood for a long time, stale fuel in the filter and fuel tank may be an issue, the first thing to do is drain the fuel tank, change the filer in the tank on the end of the fuel hose, and see if it will fire up.
