1. Cheers all. I had checked Nod's site, but the Cougar isnt listed - must be a special order item. Gonna need a few meters of KMIII too. Wonder if Nod'll have it.
2. Where are you guys buying the cougar blue from? Can't find any in the UK.
3. First assuming a parallel load and anchor line: You put 1x your weight on the line. The (base) anchor has to hold the same weight.. and so the top redirect has to hold both your load and the anchor load - so it gets 2x. As the angle at the redirect reduces from 180 degrees, so does the load - think about it - reduce the angle to 0 (straight line) and there is zero load on the redirect. There are some natty graphs online that'll show you the ratios. Now if you can avoid parallel lines by taking your anchor out and around the tree through a few redirects which are all less than 180 degrees, then each redirect gets much less than 2x the load - AND if you get it right, the angle of the load is directed into the branches rather than directly downwards. This puts more of a compression load on the branch than a bending (moment) load and is much less likely to lead to breakage. This is what @D Mc was referring to - and was the perfect repost to my gentle dig I've often pondered just lobbing the throw line right over the tree and setting a base anchor and letting the line settle in loads of branch ends. Probably not a good idea really
4. Do you give much thought to the fact you are putting up to 200% of your weight on the top redirect point, which might be higher than you can see clearly before ascending and therefore might not be the best place to be putting 2x the normal load on when actually you might only get lucky putting 1x your load? Just wondering. I'm not an arb... I can see the advantages of a base anchor - but it seems to me that a snug canopy anchor is inherently a lot safer (lower loading and only 'one' line to protect.)
5. Do you teach them to tdo that whilst they are in the tree? How many of those are able to quantify if it was a good idea now? I too don't understand your point there friend.
6. Statistics of statistics - no I didnt make it up! David Mitchell > Quotes > Quotable Quote Another really useful site for statisticians is this one: www.bomus.org
7. Yes interesting topic - I got a few questions for you though Why do you make that assumption? Remember in any kind of science assumptions are not bad but they are often the cause of wrong conclusions! There has to be a good reason for them - at least you are aware of and stating this one. Do you have a source for this? Is it 97% of all scientific researchers? Is it 97% of all scientific researchers paid to research climate change? Is it like the 99% of statistics that are made up on the spot? (I might have just made that up, or not... sorry no sauce!)
8. Welcome to over-regulated Britain. Its a nightmare.
9. That links broken mate - looks ok (and if you cut and paste it would work) but the underlying link is missing a colon.
10. I thought the pillow case was there to stop the rop getting caught in the edge of the drum. Shouldnt be a problem with modern machines.
11. Yea its a daft attitude isnt it. The French farmers are far too busy planning their next city/port blocade and working out how to get even more subsidies.
12. Well I've had a couple of weird phone calls with them. I called yesterday - bloke answered just "hello" so I checked it was AAS. Yes. Then he immediately started appologising that they hadnt sent the order yet and would do real soon. So I asked if wanted to know who I was and what order I was phoning about. He didn't. I asked which items were going to be sent out to see how good his crystal ball was... Eventually after a totally baffling conversation I got put through to Ben. I've spoken to Ben before, when the order was only 10 days late. He was going to discount the expedited delivery charge and send me a discount voucher which of course never appeared. He seemed slightly less confusing. Eventually persuaded him to check the actual order and apparently their suppliers were not playing ball. Or something. Anyway the good news - I did get a paypal refund today. No explanation of why. So my conclusion is they are not scammers, but are completely scatty. I'll stick with FRJ/TW/etc. Just thought an honest description might help others.
13. Anyone use these guys recently? Any thoughts? Atkinson Arb Supplies | Just another WordPress site I placed an order for a couple of items in the middle of July...
14. Not much you can do when that happens. Just watch open mouthed... and wait for it to subside. Can't stop it... Hope the damage is not bad X.
15. I think I would return the arisings. One at a time. Through the letter box. Dipped in honey and the letter box left a little open. Preferably each time they go away/out to work.

Treehog

Looks like something a bond villain would abuse. Interesting beast.
17. I'm convinced that its much harder to fly RC than real planes.... based on about 90 minutes of solo Chipmunk vs small RC and quads. Glad the camera survived - they are pretty sturdy these days since its just a couple of chips stuck to a bit of transparent plastic in a shell.

Cheers!

19. For example you could look at something like this with a _huge_ zoom range Samsung WB2200F Digital Smart Camera (EC-WB2200BPBGB) - Wex Photographic Or if you can stretch a little - this has a fast lens - wonderful for low light/action and is an amazing little camera. Sony Cyber-Shot RX100 II Digital Camera - Black (DSCRX100M2CDN.YG) - Wex Photographic PS Do not care about Megapixels. Unless you are doing magazine or billboard shoots. We are well past the days that it makes an iota of difference for most users.
20. Well "you cant go wrong with canikon" is the usual reply. And to an extent that is true. Or it was... But both Canon and Nikon have been resting on their "name" for years. They are not innovating in years now, and they charge a huge premium for the name. If you want compact, innovative and value for money check out (particularly the mirrorless camers) from Sony, Panasonic and Olympus (and maybe Pentax). Personally - I think some of the Sony cameras are particularly interesting - I love my A6000, but the 4/3rds cameras have many appealing points too. The caveat is that there is still a wealth of awesome glass for the canikon universes... the flip side is that you can use _all_ of that glass on the mirrorless cameras (particularly Sony's) with adapters because they have a shorter register distance. So if you really want a huge range of lenses and dont want to use adapters then its canikon still. For everyone else... there are better options. And just to throw a spanner in the works... do you really need a changeable lens camera? There are some amazing bridge cameras with brilliant and well matched lens in the 300 quid bracket that I would look at first. Unless you really want to be able to use some extreme wide angle/fisheye or really fast (read expensive) or massive telephoto lenses... then the megazoom bridge cameras are a great deal. And lets face it - if you want to buy lots of interesting lenses, your 300 quid budget is fantasy
21. Slightly misleading headline there BBC... Mile End Park: Girl, five, killed in tree collapse - BBC News Details sketchy. Relevant to anyone looking after trees with "play" attachments.
22. How on earth do they manage to make it so complicated... Oh hangon - its them lawyers at it again isn't it...
23.

Hey I'm in Old Coulsdon (CR5 1) Do you do much work this way - could you let me know your prices for hardwood 'waste'?

Cheers!

24. PS I suspect either of those choices will be fine - although I've not had good experience of some other titan gear - I have an SDS to go back for the second time. First one had no percussion power, the clutch on this one gave up on Saturday, and locked out the SDS chuck to boot - so my holesaw arbour is stuck in it. Meh.
