  1. during the past two million years of the quaternary period i understand there have been several quite dramatic temperature variations, such as the one approximately thirteen thousand years ago when the temperature rose by ten degrees celsius in one hundred years.
  2. it is possible that we are in an interstadial (a warmer period between ice ages)and the ice will come back eventually.
  3. i worked on a frac. site in oklahoma in 2012.the actual site area is not so big,say three or four football pitches.while the actual drilling is in progress there is continual site traffic which can and does include heavy trucks.when the wells have been drilled and completed the drilling equipment goes elsewhere. then, the fracking trucks and associated paraphernalia move in.this is a big operation and anyone living nearby would almost certainly "know about it". then of course the gas has to be moved from the wellsite.
  4. yes,as in the usa where you can "build your own truck",using body style, engine, transmission, etc.of your choice.(within reason)
  5. rather have F350 4x4 diesel dually.
  6. i understand the ancient greeks used ash for spear shafts.
  7. been using a 261 for over a year and, apart from one clutch failure,it has been an excellent saw.
  8. i used to work in a slate quarry(several in fact)in the late 1960's/early 1970's.one of the best and most enjoyable jobs i ever had. mind you it was only a ten hour day, five and a half days a week.
  9. we have an ecofan on our stove.it seems to spread the heat more effectively.
  10. i guess your k-30 is in the same category as my k-1500.
  11. very good.when i was a kid we never had a problem getting our bonfire to burn on nov.5.it always had several old tyres in the bottom.
  12. 24" bahco bowsaw with the short tooth hardwood blade cuts fast and clean and a new blade is cheap and easily available at hardware stores.
  13. fantastic and no tax or mot to worry about.
  14. that should say four wheel drive.
  15. i think it was described as a "forestmaster".had a 350 cu.in. motor and rour wheel drive.
  16. lay me out on the fell for the animals to eat
  17. been using a stihl msa200 battery chainsaw for several months now.it does a fine job. the only reservation i would have is whether one could use it in the rain as the battery is open to the weather.it doesnt mention wet weather use in the manual.
  18. try a ford f250/350, ram 2500/3500 or gmc/chevrolet 2500/3500 diesel 4x4. they will tow and carry big loads.
  19. you also need to clean out the area round the drive sprocket regularly on the saw as it is prone to clogging up.it is a quick and easy procedure. i could not comment on reliabilty long term but these two machines have done a fair amount of work and the saw in particular has been somewhat abused but no major problems.
  20. i have used the stihl saw with 14" bar for several months. it works fine and cuts well.i cut up to 8-10" dia. wood. i would recommend getting two batteries and the quick charger(approx. 30 mins for full charge.) you can then cut almost continuously. the hedge cutter,H86 i think, is even better,it cuts really well and seems to drain the battery very slowly. it is a fairly expensive initial outlay though. regards, gerrard meneaud.
  21. thanks for the suggestions. it was the clutch grabbing, i have cleaned the drum and greased the bearing and there is now no grabbing or binding. now i am having a problem getting the saw to start and then when it starts it wont idle. any suggestions?
  22. i would appreciate some advice please. i have a stihl ms 362.made in 2011 but never used until this year. it has been used probably once every couple of weeks to cut firewood and i have used around ten fuel fills. no problems until the chain started to run while on tickover and the saw stalled when i applied the brake. i have tried to adjust as per the owners manual but no success and now am totally lost as to the relative positions of the adjusting screws. the saw now will only start on part choke and will not idle. is there a factory setting to which i can revert and start all over again? is it a clutch problem? should i just take it to the stihl dealer? all advice gratefully received. thanks and regards.
  23. the school i used to work at bought a FARR atv, which i believe is a chinese built vehicle, approximately one year ago and it has spent a lot of time in the repair shop.
  24. if you want some flexibility and range of movement, the stihl msa 200 cordless is a good tool. get the al300 charger and ap180 battery and it will cut a long time and charge up while you have a cup of tea. expensive though.
