  1. I agree- IF they can control it, but possibly clearfelling 160 acres if ancient SSSI on the basis it hasnt already spread, seems like a gamble. With all the Spanish salad lorries on the M25, how many other chestnut woods are within easy reach of the motorway? There must be hundreds or even thousands of little copses that could include chestnut. The locals are up in arms, so will be 'interesting' to see what happens. Got to be all down and burnt within 3 weeks apparently. Hopefully they will have a change of tactics- !
  2. Well get this guys- I know the forester/ coppicer that works Farningham Woods, he and his wife have been friends of my mum's for 20 years+. He has had all his cut timber impounded, and posts/ rails can't leave site, was talking to his wife yesterday- the Plan seems to be going to be clearfell the whole wood. Everything chestnut-there were 50 guys walking around the other day! Contractors meant to be going in with harvesters. Its a SSSI, and my mum was until recently in the management commitee- we gave been walking in the woods there for 40 years. Its just terrible news. Foot & Mouth springs to mind, and another knee jerk reaction.
  3. Crikey, now I look agsin, its even better than it looked last night. So come on then- i am dying to know- How much, when can i collect it!
  4. Right- where are you? If you are not a million miles away- i will give it a good home. How much. Its fantastic.
  5. Arbfair- So this is not 'woodfest' in august then? Dogs are allowed into woodfest yes, well they were last year. Lovely show. Great day out- My daughter loves the tree climbing- Oh and the 'shroom man'!
  6. YES- i have- Bought 22000 of them about 4 years ago, but never got round to replanting my wood. I have a fair quantity still at home- They have i think been used, but only for a few months- and i have had them in the shed. I'm in ashford, kent- so fairly near- I drove all the way to Devon to get them.
  7. Where are you based? I am a Forest School leader, and run sessions with schools. As a very minimum, you would need public liability, probably product liability and a DBS check. Then you would need an 'in' to a local establishment- preferably a teacher/ teaching assistant etc. To do bushcraft, i suspect you would need a bushcraft qualification (check) Tree planting, making wooden things etc is awesome though, i do that with 4,5 & 6 year olds.
  8. I am always refused entry to the tips in kent- in my hilux fouble cab. Its our 'car', but no matter what i want yo dump- its a commercial vehicle, so i am told to go away! There is also a heigh restriction in kent- so my mpv, and my discovery, will not fit as they are too high. Plain discrimination is what that is. It is no wonder there is fly tipping.
  9. Yes, I have been many times. Some lovely vet trees, lovely parkland- and a good walk up to the iron age hillfort through the forestry. Well worth it.! Lovely walled garden too.
  10. Where are these oak boards? I was talking to someone who worked for a guy who went straight out the morning after the storm and blew £30k on a mobile bandsaw mill. Went out planking everywhere in kent/ e sussex- one job they cut hundreds of tonnes of oak for a country estate- and it was stacked in a barn! I was at boarding school in ashford, and crikey the wind whistled outside and shook the sash windows. In the morning, every tree and shed at school had disappeared. Lush- we were tidying up for days instead if doing lessons.
  11. Have to agree- those big trees look mighty suspiciously unlike Scots Pine with those huge buttresses on the trunks. I have got overstood 80 year old Western Hemlock that looks just like them- and they do look much more WRC than scots, but maybe its the pics. The Leylandii phoenix trees are just amazing- i want some.
  12. Then someone has put the wrong chain in the right box!
  13. Ostrich at a guess? Possibly a Croc- or a Dino of some kind. Its not hard boiled, and been dropped by a overflying Stork has it?
  14. I had a 260- came to me as ex demo- display. With the decompressor it was a dream to start. Ripped the rear handle off it when the bar got pinched- got a new one easily. Used it to cut 70 year old norway spruce, and ash, beech- and ran an 18" bar. Lovely saw- abdolutely loved it. Now its been nicked, i am looking for another. I also had a 250, 291, 391, 440, 660. I liked the 260 the best for weight, quality and get up n go,
  15. Try asking SamWhiting12 He has a buddy who works for the south wales skyline specialists. Sure he can get you info/advice.
  16. I didnt have any jabs at school. Sod that! Gp's used to give a booster every 5 years- 20 years ago they told me this was no longer good practice, and if you get a bad cut or a dirty injury, they will innoculate as standard practice- but not routinely, and def not every 5 years any more. I have most certainly not had more than 2 tet injs in 40 years.
  17. Someone probably using my trailer, and the one from just along the road, and probably a small fleet of stolen ifors, all in a convoy!
  18. Well however did my place over fortnight ago took 4 of the old husqy combi cans- and even the spare spouts, plus of course all the tools and little gadgets that i had fitted on them- two were even used and empty so someone must like em! I hope the cans leak, and set the bar stewards on fire - either that or they have already succumed to the non working chain breaks on two of the saws they got. Guess i will need to order some of these new cans then. Is it me, or do they just look not as rufty tufty as the old ones?
  19. I have always used trailers, parked braked facing uphill, and in 30 years never had a braking ptoblem. The auto-reverse braking system that works when reversing a traiker, to prevent braked coming on is totally different. If the handbrake is applied, the brakes should be on.
  20. Oooh- ok. We think this was an old daihatsu fourtrak with big chunky tyres, and a van, or something with much smoother car like tyres.
  21. That is literally half a mile away, i'm in llanfoist. Very close then.
  22. Didnt have any! Difficult to get cover for kit with no 'proper' address.
  23. Update- been out since 3 am this morning. No insurance. No alarms- Oxy acetylened through 2 sets of gates. Drove into wood (which is not easy, its very challenging, very steep, lots of bends) so i never expected insurgents to he mobile! So they have an ifor willusms LM126 caged trailer, with fitted full length mesh drop tailgate (very distinctive) Yamaha timberwolf quad bike, with front eldctric winch, and handmade mounting brackets.
