  1. Ok So Yam timberwold quad bike Ifor 126 caged trailer Branderup 750kg trailer 30 jerry cans diesel Assorted chainsaws 6, or 7 They even paused to fill up their vehicle with red before leaving!
  2. Just heard from neighbours at my wood- we have had a break in. Gates cut in half, containers cut open. Not sure exactly what is missing yet but at a guess Saws Quad bike Tractor Trailer. Will update as soon as i know. Clearly very well prepared, and organised- be extra vigilant. NP3 postcode area.
  3. Always get the Mrs a new Iphone- sets me back a few hundred squid. She is also gettin an Ipad mini this year too! Just the romantic me! But after 22/23? Odd years together- c'est la vie!
  4. My hilux double cab would easily carry 2 tonne, and barely show it- but i wouldnt get 2 cube in it- unless i built on extentions.
  5. Yes- bought it for myself last easter. Fantastic book. Illustrations to die for.
  6. Fireproof plasterboard- Otherwise known as 'asbestalux'- Its like plasterboard with extra fire retardency, and doesn't have the paper covering. We used it to go either side and behind our rayburn.
  7. Do you mean American Loggers, featuring the Pellatier family. Bout 8 brothers, all their own trucks, harvesters, and stuff? And their own logging camp in the woods at Tilos or somewhere. They used to be on a few years ago- used to watch them before the ax men first series, so thats about 8 years ago?
  8. By gum- You sound ideal. I have got 30 acres of totally neglected woodland- in abergavenny.
  9. At a wild guess- Scots pine, or corsican pine. Looking at the bark plates, leaning towards scots.
  10. That is absolutely fantastic. Super- wish i had a tree in the garden i could cut down now. I would LOVE one of those.
  11. I have got one. Very well built. My quad wont pull it even On the flat though when loaded. I use it behind our compact tractor. Very good trailers, i have 3. A brash cart, mini forwarder and this bigger forwarder. Has coped well with being laden down with some heavy bits.
  12. Snap- that sounds like my mum! Her dogs are her life, walks 6 miles every day, in all weathers, and at 73, looks more like 53. Me on the other hand- am 38, but look more like 68!
  13. Well, this wont be popular but- if i got a chipper through the windscreen- it would be finders keepers! Once i had managed to extract it from the car of course! Imagine losing that in the middle lane of the M25!
  14. I am in ashford too!
  15. Yes- the show is supposed to be primarily 'educational' and to showcase how absolutely fantastic wood is. Children everywhere need to get that- and our sons/daughters probably see wood, touch logs, get outdoors every day (know mine does) but so many children never experience nature or get out to see what the real world has to offer (without the H&S bull)- they are cocooned in a permanent state of 'cotton wool'. This show has been of interest to thousands of kids over the years- and hopefully the organisers will realise the error of their new 'regime'. I personally wont spend £50 odd quid to get in next year. Yeah, i know- tight wad i am!
  16. Yes lovely show- hopefully Constructive criticism will be taken on board- and things will go on as they were. Would be such a shame to see it fail, as it is such a lovely setting.
  17. After the change of management-- and huge increase in trade stand fees? Lots of traders deliberately fave it a miss. No childrens climbing, the dugout canoe guys will never come again (end of an era for them), plus lots of stands moved to different places. It seems that the majority of attractions for the kids, that were free, or subsidised by the organisers, have gone. Entry fees are high enough- and it seems you get very little back - every activity except canoes had to be paid for. Noticeably absent were the puppet show, climbing, frankie woodgate with her heavy horses. Many stands not going to return after chatting today- that is very sad. Always been an absolutely cracking show- very dissapointed this year. Plus- wanted lots of shiny bits from Jonesie- but everyone said trade was bad, but, Godfreys did well from me as they were the only ones with any climbing stuff- my little girl is gonna love her PINK marlow climbing rope - what every 8 year old wants surely?
  18. Same here- but Stihl. My 291 has gone back to the dealer they have twiddled the carb, within the constraints of the grey caps fitted to the adjustment screws- they can't make it run either, they are ordering some £1k+ tool from stihl to remove the caps and then tune it without ( so what is the point if the caps) What a bag of ... I will just keep buying used off ebay- so far, 100% more reliable.
  19. First- Very nice work. Exceptional at that price. Have a look at prices for Forest School gear. I am a forest school leader, and devote hours if my time free to the kids- its the kids that matter. I make them all sorts- for nothing, because to see their eyes light up is amazing. You did good. Second, as a former school governor, and chair of governors at an infant school- take it from me, the politics run deep. The bitchy comments, unhelpful suggestions, back stabbing- its unbelievable. And for the record- all of my teachers were exceptionally hardworking- at school at 7 am, dont leave until 5.30pm- and teachers are expected to be in school during school holidays. The stress they are under, how youngsters of 20 can put themselves through it is beyond me. Plus, unless you are leadership, the money is pants. But- the issue here is that your wife is on the PTA, and you have been paid to do the business. Its great work. The kids will love it. Ignore and move on.
  20. First time I saw one there I chucked the saw 30 ft in the air and just ran! Only found out after that they were harmless- but they bloody don't look harmless do they!
  21. Wood wasps definitely. When you split the logs Sam, they will wriggle out. Harmless though- unless they inject your leg with eggs- that would hurt😳. Normally the larvae are big fat lazy grubs that move so slowly that any self respecting Robin will have an easy lunch!
  22. I am going with the family on the saturday. Always a great show.
  23. Loved Trumpton, Camberwick Green and Chigley as well. Pugh, pugh, barney magrew. Cuthbert, dibble, grubb! Still say that quite often!
  24. Snap- Did all those things- and growing up in Chislehurst, was very lucky to be surrounded by trees, the common and the huge NT wood just over our fence~ but only 30 mins from central london. Every day was bike ride day. Never can ever be the same for children now- the world has changed forever~ and I spend most of my time trying to encourage children to play outside. As a Forest School Leader, its the ethos- encouraging children to have the confidence to go about just imagining and creating outside- from nothing. Last year, i setup a mini teepee village at school, just with ex military tents. Out of 90 kids, less than 10% had ever been near enough to a tent to touch it- and none had ever slept in a tent. Very sad state of affairs.
  25. Hey Sam- Well....... Erm, i let you collect from My yard.. Haha, but that is different. No- in your case. If they are that desperate- meet them in one of the FC carparks down the road, but they will all want a discount- once they know where you are, what prevents them coming when you are out and having a freebee. Sounds appealing - but unless you know them very well- slippery road to trouble. I took a chance that a young lad, who is a continuous contributor to arbtalk and wants to work- deserves a chance- and i guess as a result- you are my 'customer' - but its more like trade, and 'mates rates' if not just a good productive mutually respective working relationship that we have now - i certainly wouldnt let numpty joe public in my yard!!
