  1. Live in ashford, kent. The woodland is in abergavenny, south wales, where we go on holiday. So unfortunately i dont get to go and play every day, but spend all day every day when we are on holiday in the woods. I feel , well not sure, hard to explain, but better somehow in the woods. 30 acres lf mountainside. Mostly norway spruce and western hemlock. No internal access. So obviously in my state, nice rides and tracks throughout, so i can get about on my quad bike.
  2. Dont need a felling license to fell dead trees I am gonna try this. The FC wont give me a licence to slective fell trees across my 30 acre wood, so i can make rides. I suspect a little work with an axe might be in order. Mind you, its about 400cu m we would be talking about, so not exactly subtle!
  3. Forgot to say i am Only 38 😳 Plus now taking massive amounts of Codeine Paracetamol Neurofen Amitriptylene and pregabalyn Every day for 5 years now since the nerve block injection. My new consultant- neurosurgeon, rather than orthopaedic surgeon (complete tool) says the nerve damage is irreversable, and i have to find something to take my mind off the pain- so i bought a 30 acre wood, on the side of a mountain, that the FC and two landed estates couldnt do anything with- and i will succeed where others have failed, because i will do it, or i will die trying. Failure is not an option. Could always use some help though 😃
  4. Totally agree with that. I have got L5/S1 herniated disk, along with six above that, and another 4 in my cervical spine. Had lots of manipulation For sciatica, from docs and physio- problem was the disc they all missed. Had nerve block injections, into l5s1, and ended up with permanent nerve damage in my left leg, lost my manual driving license, my hgv license and now walk with a crutch. So anything other than mild sciatica, insist on an xray, mri or high resolution ct scan- before some tool decides what is best for you!! Just saying.
  5. well that is my log pile. Gonna take me several years to sort that lot out!
  6. I also picked up a Siromer on ebay just before xmas. 3 years old, 1 owner, been in a shed since new, all in tip top condition, shuttle gearbox, etc etc. unfortunately no loader, but its 4x4 with chunky agri tyres- and its was £500, yes, 500, the new owners of the stables were pulling the shed down, and didnt want to leave it out in the rain!! If it had a loader, i would say it might actually be better than the land legend. I wouldnt spend 8k on one, but it must be the best £500 i have EVER spent. It pulls our mini forwarder trailer through our wood, on very steep slopes. I think its a Kubota or Iseki engine, so cant go wrong with that. With a loader,it would be awesome.
  7. Yes, I bought a land legend from Sid at Cowling Agri , brand new 4 years ago. With factory 4 in 1 loader and pallet forks. Use it at home for moving pallets round, dug out the neighbours garden with it. Lives in the garage at home. We jse it in the woods with a log splitter, 5 tonne egland winch and to move trailers about. With the 4x4 and the low weight, its brilliant. Can stick it on the trailer and drive it about with minimal hassle. Well worth the money. Mine needs a counterweight for the pallet forks really, but never got round to finding an old barrel and some rebar.
  8. Had similar in my v8 auto disco- in low box with diff lock on, went up the steep road to our woods with the trailer and 2.5 tonnes of cord, hit a slightly damp bit, and completely lost traction. All 4 wheels spinning, smoke coming out the lot, plus then started slipping backwards down the hill, still with all spinning. Just had to hope nobody was coming up, and aim to cut the hedge all the way back down. Several minutes later, we hit the bottom, having given the hedge a good trim. Not an experience i want to repeat. All trailers go up behind out jcb telehandler now!
  9. Its the Kat, all 3 of mine have always done it. They are all more than 2 years old now, and if mine are anything to go by- should make a sort of popping fizzing noise, accompanied with red hot glowing/flames once the revs have dropped down to idle. Was quite interesting in the dark the first few times it happened- but i am used to it now! Sure its quite normal- otherwise i have got 3 duff ones.
  10. Me too. Both hands! Been using a chainsaw since i was 10. Don't give a ...,
  11. I have got several top handle saws. Use them a lot. Often on the ground. I bought them new from dealers. I am not a professional. Have no tickets or qualifications. Own my own wood and if i want to kill myself- that is my choice. No dealer asked me for any evidence of anything. Quite happy to sell me a saw!
  12. Wood wasp. We have them in our forestry. Make a terrible buzzing noise- first time I saw one- just chucked the chainsaw in the air and ran. They are quite harmless and cant sting. The long stinger is for laying eggs. Look for small holes like woodworm in freshly felled or seasoning logs. Grubs hatch and are huge white/grey things. Got a vid somewhere i could look out.
  13. Hi all, Been reading everything with great interest for about 12 months now, finally got round to signing in! I'm Seb, live in kent, own a 30 acre wood in south wales. Mainly Norway Spruce, Western Hemlock and massive veteran beech, with Ash and hazel thrown in. Terrible access, very steep site- some places so steep that climbing would be better than walking. Trees are all overstood, but great for logs and wotnot. Picked up lots of tips on here already. Everyone very helpful.
  14. Real. Plus cash in collection= nothing to hide.
