  1. Don't want to upset anyone buy can you but the 461 or any stihl saws online or have they changed the policy
  2. I believe its called a Lucas key but I stand to be corrected on the name, those keys in the link will work for the machine
  3. http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=261195699883
  4. Is it the big flat silver one or the little black one, you can pick them up almost anywhere if you're in no rush you can get a set on ebay for a few quid
  5. Any agricultural place will have them
  6. Haha thats the actual truth bless him
  7. I love be the 540 one of my favourite chippers, I bet you'll get really annoyed with those plastic curtains and remove them
  8. I'm in this position I'm thinking a 576 then I though a few more quid then I could get a 390 then it's only a few more quid for the 395 the next thing I'm looking at is a £250 difference I don't think the op will be disappointed with any of these saws I'd go for whatever is the best priced and aftercare
  9. Do you not have a drilled exhaust and side plate off the older 201 you could try?
  10. I'll let you have mine in return for whatever too handle you're using
  11. Where's stubbie? In all seriousness you sould take it back to the dealers it sounds like you need a software update
  12. In almost all veteran trees that are situated in sub urban areas and in fence line areas will contain some kind of foreign object. If the tree looks healthy with no sign of fruiting bodies it'll be fine
  13. Doesn't work like that I'm afraid the tree can be clear of the powerlines let's say have a 2m clearance but it can still have a nasty over hang on it. The customer can request to the network supplier to have the tree removed but they are not obliged to do so it all comes down to money and how many people are dependant on that feed.
  14. Stihl do file/flat file combo tool every time you give it a stroke it takes a bit off the cutter and depth gauge I've never used one but It might be a handy thing if the op is struggling to get the depth gauges right. I know it's not a solution to doing it free hand but it might get the most out of your chain until you master the art of sharpening
  15. It shouldn't be to difficult a bit of cotton wool and a spacer jobs a gooden
  16. I see I've ended up putting those red inserts on my msa defenders just because I like my hearing and they make a decent difference. I'm presuming pfanner could come up with something similar for these ones
  17. I got it when I got my 4x4 so I could find green lanes obviously the knack wears off so I never really got to use it properly but it's exactly like an os map on your phone it's great
  18. Maps mate
  19. The 201 hasn't been good it been reliable but not good the newer ones the 2014 are good but the later models were terrible unless you drilled them. The 261 isn't a bad saw but put it against a 550 and it's bad then but that's my opinion I'm not stihl or a husky fan boy I like what is the most powerful and robust which will make it cheaper and easier for me, I'll go back to the Husky 540 I've only ever met 1 person happy with this saw its not an isolated case same as the lack of power in the old 201's quite simply these saws weren't tested to the max until they broke that how every piece of testing should happen then you can improve on those flaws
  20. GPS just like a tom Tom. It's a decent app can get pricey though
  21. Do it because in the short space of time you have the saw to give feed back you'll identify weaknesses with the saw, it's not yours so be rough with it, drop it on the strip bang it against stems push it through big timber, spear cut big limbs off you know the score
  22. If it's a body computer issue is it not worth taking the body computer out and seeing if any of the contacts are dirty. I had a similar issues on my old alfa 147 I found some dirty contacts on the body computer so a bit of nail varnish remover and a cotton bud I cleaned it up and all was good after that
  23. Yes that's what I want
  24. I don't mean to derail but I am I've been thinking about this after the 540 affair I think stihl/husqvarna need to give these saws that they want testing to the biggest, hairiest and rough arsed tree surgeons and get proper feed back. Non of these Nancy pansy pruner types but people that dismantle trees all the time so the saw is abused then we might get a better idea of reliability and performance. I'm not saying the OP won't do this I just get the feeling that 'yes' men test these saws and are afraid to upset stihl/husquvarna
  25. Can you not interchange the ear defenders to the msa ones? I'm happy with my petzl just asking out of curiosity I've only ever tried the protos on in gusthearts and it seemed comfy I never experienced the ear defenders other than putting them down in the shop
