  1. Pretty sure it's not walnut, it's only got 3 leaflets on each leaf, forgot to say also it smelt like peas when I cut it
  2. Crown lifted this tree last week not sure what it was, the paperwork said it was a walnut but I don't think it's that. And I don't have a tree Id book. Yeah I know I should have one but can normally work out what things are, stuck on this one tho, thanks will
  3. I bought one off eBay spares were hard to get and expensive. My advice don't bother
  4. I stopped the fags and bought a vaper thing, it works great. The battery ran out today so I had a fag off my mate and it tasted horrible so quite pleased with that. Battery charged now!
  5. Found this today in a birch branch
  6. Ours goes in artic lorry to Europe about 2 loads a week, we have a tele handler to load it tho
  7. Ah I watched the video, didn't look great did it but all he put through the was dead sticks and they don't go through easy do they. Has any one on here got one?
  8. Has any one used one of these? Any good for smaller jobs?
  9. Get the echo then
  10. Couldn't see the sky it was dark. I'll look up at the weekend. Good tip to pull a waste length through first thanks
  11. I don't think it does have a CE plate no. Register plate will be a steel plate screwed to angle iron, is there a min thickness for this? Found instructions on how to fit in the description of a lot on eBay. I fully expect that fitting a flu liner is not easy and that I may come across problems but will do it properly and if I get stuck I can always ask on here! A few things to think about tho thanks
  12. I have recently gone self employed and I'm on a budget. I have a x reg ford ranger double cab which I have built a ply chip box on, I did want a super can for extra load space but this one came up and I got a good deal on it. Had it since June and been ok so far. Hire a chipper when need to. I have bought a few saws over the years so they arnt brand new but I've got a battered husky 372, bought a 200t off a mate which runs fine after some fiddling, a second hand stihl long hedge cutter this is a must have. Some light ally steps Bought my climbing kit of my last employer when I left sequoia harness and New England rope, Rigging rope - tuerfullberger situs 12mm £60 for 50m seemed cheep from honey brothers. I would rather buy second hand kit than cheap new stuff
  13. Don't think this has much relevance to the thread but it reminded me of a beech in a row of beech trees, out side my nans kitchen window that always came out in leaf a week before the rest, every year sorry no pictures tho
  14. Thanks for all the replies, some good info there. Think I will fit it my self as the chimney is straight with no upstairs fire place and as far as I can see no bends. So I just buy a liner, go to the top of the chimney and drop it down right?
  15. Hi all, We want to replace our open fire with a wood burner. I have a second hand yeoman 4 kW burner in good condition that I want to put in. If it was up-to me I would just put in a check plate above it and use the old chimney as is but the missus is convinced we need a liner or we will all die of carbon monoxide! So I have agreed. Trouble is she has had two quotes so far both in the region of £1400. Does this sound right? And if this is what it would cost to install one how hard would it be to do it my self? Thanks will
  16. I have been travelling 45 mins each way for the last 3 and a half years. Leave home at 6.15 get back at 6pm. But have knocked that on the head now as want to spend more time at home with family. I've got three days a week with a local tree surgeon for slightly less money but he's only 15 mins away and starts at 8am instead of 7am and finishes early sometimes. So financially I'm bout the same but nearly two hours at home more each day. Got to try and find two more days each week close to home and I'll be sorted
  17. Ah, a glass of red wine in the morning. Just how I like to start the day!🍷
  18. Thanks David. I was well off the mark with that one
  19. Everytime I see fungi I take a photo and think I'll try to identify it and put it on here. But I've been busy and then got more and more. So tonight I'm going to spend an hour trying to do it. First one Parasol mushroom 2 Lumpy bracket or greasy bracket, not sure ( In a cavity of a horse chestnut) 3 Not sure 4 Ganoderma applanatum? 5 These were in my lawn at home not near any trees 6 These in a stump in the woods Help! I think I need to get a fungi book!
  20. When I worked for exmoor national park authority we had an old boy who worked for stenner he came out to us to train us to use the re saw for a day we did get a certificate but I guess not a formal qualification. Sorry that's probably not much help. Maybe a sawmill owner who employs staff would know more
  21. My first log stack for a while just moved to a house with a fireplace nice to have afire and logs again
  22. Hi guys thanks for all of your replies, I probably was a bit naive in the past thinking that most fungi was terminal for trees. I am learning slowly about them and how trees react to them, I liked the marshmallow comparison, and the simple way you explained it
  23. Hi David, the stump was about 10 inches high in the picture. I don't have any other photos of the tree sorry.
  24. It wasn't my decision to fell the tree, and the tree did have other defects higher up the main main stem, and in my opinion the tree could have been investigated further and been reduced to make it safe but it was decided to fell and replant instead. Cheapest and easiest option I guess. Would that fungus have caused the tree to rot and fail in the future? And how quickly would that have happened ? I don't know much about fungus so I'm here to learn. Thanks will
  25. Only took one photo, sorry I was in a hurry to get the tree done, but doesn't seem to be any decay in the base at all, just staining from metal in the stump
