  1. It appears that most police and/or Vosa forces around the country are focusing more on vans and trailers as they are probably more likely to have "potential offences" than lorries, M4 Newport tonight seemed to have been a van special on the weighbridge. Just remember that the breakaway cable must be attached to the towbar frame and not the ball ( in case ball snaps) otherwise that is a potential fine/points
  2. Very well made mower with proper British engineering but unless you want to use it yourself, the engine is the only valuable bit. Cylinder mowers are a very selective trade, ones that dont collect even harder work. PS its a Lloyds Ariel mower
  3. I have checked out the Driver CPC issue and as far as I can see you need said CPC on any vehicle, not vehicle and trailer , that is over 3.5 tons. The only exemption for Arb work is the lorry carries the tools of the trade for the drivers daily work and driving is not his main occupation of the day. If you carry 1 log or bag of sawdust home to sell , then technically a CPC is needed. The VOSA website gives clear examples relating to farmers and fencing work requires when a CPC is required and when not. Regards tachos, it doesnt seem to matter whether produce or tools are being carried and in all cases you still need an operating licence if the vehicle exceeds 3.5 tons unladen. Also to remember drivers who passed the driving test after Jan 1997 need a HGV licence to drive a 7.5 ton lorry as car test only allows up to 3.5 tons
  4. I say offer a smaller quantity for £30 as well as your crates. Also try having one bag of "opposition quality" to show customers the difference. We sell a cheap quality long reach hedgetrimer at £199 and a Stihl at £564. Guess what always sells once they see the difference
  5. There is always Youtube
  6. We have installed a DIY fit alarm bought off Ebay, works a treat off a pay as you go mobile phone sim, just needs a mains supply but supplier now does a solar one I beleive. It rings 6 phones one after another until someone responds. You can have bells or have the fun of creeping up on them.Supplier is Phone:01522|595858 Email:[email protected]
  7. We have 2 cat D repairs. One is a £600 Fiat Punto for my 17 year old son and one is a very tidy 53 plate Discovery that does 4000 miles a year as a back up. Cat d are worth 20% less than normal and will put someone off when you come to sell but as long as they have been repaired properly there is no difference to any other vehicle that has had a minor repair. Ideal choice on a low value vehicle where the next owner could be the scrapman, ie a 17 year old driving a punto!!!!
  8. We run 3 sprinters, all panel vans. Youngest is a 2012 316CDI 4 cylinder, returns about 22mpg towing an Ifor Williams 18 foot. It is plated to tow 3.5 tons legally as we had it made like that otherwise the best you will get a Sprinter to tow is 2.8 tons. However although it pulls very well you have to watch speed when towing as it will snake. We also have a 4.6 ton X reg 411cdi that towed 2 tons which has just been derated to 3.5 tons using a kit from SV Tech. In the process we managed to raise towing weight to 2.8 tons. Although it doesnt have the power of newer van it handles the trailer far better . It also has the stronger springs. Where it really scores is that it has twin wheels and traction control and is far better on soft ground than the 316cdi single wheel What may work well for a tree surgery company is buy a 4 or 5 series sprinter and derate it, but check what you need to carry before you start.
  9. As far as I am aware, they had a load delivered which failed quality tests. I think replacements are about a month away and non Husky equivalents about 2 weeks
  10. If you do take payment by card then as long as the customer enters their pin number into your terminal, the payment is virtually irreversible,. No pin, no guarantee of payment
  11. The seller of any item of any Ebay item can state if the item may be collected or not and if so may state cash on collection, otherwise Ebay take a dim view of sellers that refuse to accept Paypal
  12. One of the rules of Paypal is that you must ensure you have proof of delivery if you have taken payment via this method. For this reason do not accept payment by Paypal if item is collected as all it takes is for buyer to say he didnt receive item, the seller has not tracking details and so Paypal claim funds back. Best way on large sums is bank transfer, most people have internet or smartphone banking so they can pay once they have seen the machine or else cash but in that case accompany them to the bank and let them pay it in over the counter into your account. That way any suspect notes should come to light or else the bank are responsible for taking them in plus all is on CCTV. Just be warned that there was a spate of dodgy bank drafts originating from the Midlands a while back, chippers were a favourite thing to buy with them. Bank drafts should be treated in the same way as a cheque unless you receive written proof from the issuing bank that the draft is genuine
  13. Well seller is starting to get message as all Husqvarna name but not model references have been removed from listings. Pictures still show fake label. I would suspect they themselves have been tucked up by a travelling chainsaw salesman and it owes them close to buy it now price, perhaps bought as a replacement for a broken crank Stihl
  14. Done, dont need to be competing with this
  15. We sell the same mower new under the Atco badge and they are about £899. Assuming yours is about the same new I would say its worth £500, but if it doesnt sell by end of month , then I suspect you will still have it to end next March. Cylinder mowers are a diminishing market new and depreciate hard, they sell best in central and south / south east England, so Ebay with a delivery option should work
  16. It may work out cheaper to buy a Kombi hedgecutter and bin the shaft
  17. Assuming that the set up here is the same as a MS261C, it is possible to turn revs up slightly and prevent stalling. I will consult my workshop guys and find out exactly how to do it and repost
  18. The 6 and 7 are the heat rating, the lower the number, the hotter the plug can run. The R is a resistor and the P is a projected tip Champion plugs heat range is the opposite way round
  19. I think if we were said dealer, then we would either supply a loan saw or pinch part of a new saw and replace at a later date. That way the customer remains happy
  20. Just out of interest what part are you waiting for?
  21. I would guess at mesh screen in carb. Easy to clean, remove plate on carb that has single large screw and its underneath. Pick out with sharp screwdriver and blow gun clean. Refit so it seats well. What they usually do is suck fuel and muck against mesh and engine starves. Once it stops so does suction and muck drops off mesh.
  22. Nothing wrong with a 4 mix provided they are maintained properly and use proper fuel oil mix. They have got to have a semi synthetic 2 stroke oil ie Stihl HP super (green) but this mix can be used in all 2 strokes and need a service every 100 hours or so including checking valve gaps. Best seller for us is the KM90 and also seems very reliable. The biggest KM130 has been a bit unreliable when used for extended commercial work as the servicing gap can get a bit long . The valves are usually the problem then
  23. We sell a lot of them, they are well made and perform well. The target buyer seems to be the man who would have bought a Honda and the different models are aimed at domestic and professional users. Parts are easily available and generally very reasonably priced. Stihl are pushing them hard in the UK as they are very popular in Europe.
  24. I think if he only carries tools then he would escape it but if he carried goods ie logs then the driver needs a CPC. If you are only just passing test then you are okay as far as I am aware for 5 years
