  1. Do you need the equipment? If not it doesn't look as if he's any competition so I certainly wouldn't spend on the name and website - goodwill doesn't last long - and only buy any kit that you really need. (Says the man sat having a coffee and browsing tool porn sites!)
  2. Love it
  3. Exactly my thoughts (but phrased much more clearly!)
  4. Your chances of being sued for making one for yourself are virtually zero as the cost of the lawsuit would be prohibitive compared to the likely damages that would be awarded based on a single item. The risk of being sued is probably a lot higher for the person posting the dimensions as the court could potentially construe that they were conspiring to cause multiple infringements.
  5. For it to be tested the tree would have to fail within the window between end of homeowner "notice period" and the HA doing the work and there would have to be an accident/loss as a consequence of that failure. I suspect in the majority of cases the failure occurs when there is no traffic and is cleared up without problems.
  6. They would be absolved of their duty of care but presumably at the cost of being billed by the HA for the work?
  7. You'd have to check that the standard threat was used (and not just a "do it!") , but from a reasonable management point of view if the householder had 4 weeks to do it (or not) and the HA was then required to check if it had or hadn't been done (as no communication from householder), then schedule work, I would have thought that it would be unreasonable to transfer liability to the HA until the end of another 4 weeks. After that point though I would expect the HA to be responsible but I suspect it may never have been tested.
  8. Now that is a great idea thank you:)
  9. Currently thinking of two vases as proposed by kinderscout as I can see how that would allow me to retain more of the burr in total or perhaps a lamp base. Keep coming with the ideas and I'll let you know what happens in another 10 years when I've reached a decision
  10. For one terrible moment on reading this I thought I might have caught my reflection in the photo
  11. I've had this piece of wood lying in my garage for years and every time I turn to it I'm unsure what to make with it (probably a bowl) and what form it should take to maximise it's potential. I'm appealing for ideas and advice
  12. Does your Uni not give you online access to journals / papers? I know I've used two of my son's access (they are on full time courses) to access a few papers I've been interested in:)
  13. Probably just a decomposing body
  14. I've never worked in arb but have worked with both nationalities over the years and would much prefer to work with Norwegians. If I was going to relocate I'd worry about the lack of daylight in the Norwegian winter (both on impact of working hours outside and on my mental health) but would still err towards Norway.
  15. Even if he is a qualified to make the report you can check what the options and the consequences of each option are. Just because the tree has a weakness (and lets be honest irrespective of how qualified the individual is it depends on how you ask the question - 1) Are there any possible reasons to justify chopping this tree down? 2) Despite this tree having a weakness what are the real risks of doing nothing and if that's not possible what are the options that would allow us to retain the maximum amenity value from the tree?) doesn't mean it needs to be felled , perhaps a reduction would suffice?
  16. On a more serious note did the council stick notices up saying that they would be consulting on the removal of the tree? If they were shifting a footpath for example you would expect notices so anyone interested was alerted to the meeting. Not following due process perhaps?
  17. In a worst case scenario if they do chop the tree down I have a tree in my garden the naked women could be chained to whilst you were waiting for the new tree to get to size
  18. Get someone to talk to the guy who want's it chopped down and ask him if he's considered the risk of heave on his wall when the tree is no longer taking up all the moisture (I've no idea if there is any risk but always a good idea to sow doubts in peoples minds ) But do go ahead with the chaining naked women to the tree as well
  19. Out of interest what did he sell the original tables for?
  20. pyracantha is also yellow and thorny
  21. Never had an iphone but I understand they have an interphone local coms thingie (a bit like bluetooth) normally used to send pictures of body parts to people you don't know on the same commuter train / underground who have forgotten to switch that functionality off. Assuming you have both phones I'd have thought you could have used that, it may be a bit slow but should do the trick. (halfway through a bottle of red wine but if you need me to check the name of the app/software that does that i will try)
  22. I'd be wary with the way he has only photographed it from direction w/o bar and chain showing. If it was in such good condition I'd be making sure my photos showed it better
  23. Probably a dumb question but if the tuning isn't an issue on a saw could you just braze a pipe on to a normal exhaust to funnel the fumes away?
  24. I fail to see why Mark should be accused of talking bollocks this time as the whole thread is concerned with felling a specific tree? Additionally the poking suggestion included the use of a pole to poke - no mention was made of shooting. (FWIW I'm ambivalent about grey squirrels; the ones in my garden I encourage and defend as their antics cheer me up when I'm low and I would love to have their ability to climb and jump; the ones in my forest have an open invitation to my campfire/barbeque but as I don't have a shotgun none have turned up yet)
