  1. Is the pump on the gearbox (PTO) or is it engine driven ? Bob
  2. Exactly that. I know things are different regionally and that in some area`s any wood is log wood but around here there is no market what so ever for this stuff. We process everything, all cord goes for chip, any hardwood goes to the log boys and chip goes to the chip dump. Conifer rings etc would cost me money and time to dispose of so this method suits me. Lots of eternally grateful old folk have taken car loads away .This guy below is living in a house with loads of open fires, he has had at least six transit loads like this and its the difference between him being warm this winter or living in a cold house. He would not be a buyer of logs, ever.
  3. The log goblins have set a new record:thumbup1: I dumped 5 - 6 tons of rubbish wood out there at 4.30pm and it was gone by 10pm. I dont bother cutting it into manageable lengths any more and they still take it Bob
  4. These are a brilliant piece of kit. The wheels are suspect and often break , they also eat cord faster than you can put it in there but they are much better than any brush cutter. We replaced the head on ours with two small HT chains to convert it into a mini swipe, that got round the cord problem Bob
  5. We have that problem but our lads cant work out why:bash: Bob The hilux but the rest of the trucks are not much different.
  6. You want one of these Mr git, I got this one for £50 off ebay. Really useful tool for mashing unknown bits of hydraulic kit together. Bob
  7. Might be worth covering them all up to keep the light off the bags Steve. I think its the light that gets them because the same bags that are in the shipping container are ok. The few tons of bagged logs we had left over from last year which were outside but under a roof had to be re bagged because the bags started to fall apart. Bob
  8. Has everyone overlooked the day this happened ? Bob UK severe weather warning: Britain battered by 105mph gales which leave 2 dead | Daily Mail Online
  9. We have a Drott dozer that runs that engine, Barry Walsh ( Drott spares) will be able to help on 0783653556. Make sure you have plenty of time when you make the call because that man can talk. There is another model IH engine that will fit and the difference is in the height of the block. Barry will no doubt advise. Bob
  10. Nothing compared to the money lost running trucks that you have outgrown. I dont know anyone that has downsized their truck or setup . Bob
  11. How did you Guess ? Bob
  12. Is this better Jonny ?
  13. Lone working in an isolated woodland down in a valley , says it all really:bash: Bob
  14. I have just bought one of these New Diesel Transfer Pump 12 Volt DC Portable Fuel Self Priming Oil Kerosene 45L | eBay Self priming and that suction strainer is really good at not getting the last dregs ( crap) out of the bottom of the barrel. Bob
  15. Perhaps but I think Bob has just loaded up the add with info in an attempt to stop all the mindless crap questions ebay buyers fire at you. Bob
  16. We have both and there is 200kg difference between the two of them. Bob
  17. Bureaucrats and red tape. Bob
  18. Me bitz, all a bit grubby. This gadget has an arm that drops down to the axle for load compensating , it is also the valve that has the landrover rear hydraulic brake line run through it. note the two bleed nipples on the top. Fifth wheels are tiny at 18" Relay Compressors and tanks
  19. I was hoping to keep the trailer weight down to about a ton. I suppose its all different when the trailer is on a fifth wheel , for a start there is no 150kg max drawbar weight to worry about and the fifth wheel will carry more than anything a landrover could pull on its own ( the one on the artic is good for 12 ton but that is a lot bigger), so once coupled you will be limited by the maximum axle weights. landy axles are rated at 2 tons per axle so if the two trailers axles are good for 2 tons each and the landrover rear axle is ok at 2 tons I can see a healthy payload of about 4-41/2 tons if the trailer can be kept at around the ton. The landrover is still a dual purpose vehicle so it should still be under the radar as far as operators license goes but will probably need a tacho, none of this applies if you register it like a mog as ag/forestry. Some landys are rated at 7tons gtw and there are a few hicaps at 7.5 ton gtw.I have also seen trays that clip into the fifth wheel when the trailers are not being used that put it back to a flatbed. Vipex have been doing them for a while @7000kg gtw . Vipex build Landrover Defender based off-road lightweight artic | Vipex Bob
  20. I am going to convert a 110 to a mini artic with a fifth wheel coupling. I bought a complete set up off a guy that wanted his back as a landy. It has a hydraulic valve cut into the rear brake line that actuates the air to the trailer, the compressor is a 12volt thing that supplies a tank. I will post up some pics tomorrow. These are trailer rated at 4.5 ton but its a lot different in road manners than a drawbar trailer. The fifth wheel coupling is slightly forward of the rear axle so when you hit the brakes the front wheels dont go light and there is no snaking about no matter what you do , you can also lean on the vehicle to the tune of 1 ton which puts the whole thing at 7.5 ton gross. Bob
  21. I have a full fitting kit to do zackly that. No adapter plate needed , it will bolt straight to the r380 or lt77. fits any gm v8 ( multi drilled) Tiz going cheap Bob
  22. Bottom line is that firewood is a commodity which like oil,gas and whatever else heats a house will fluctuate in both demand or price. Not much consolation for those that have large amounts stacked when the price or demand drops off but like all these things it will only be a blip in the market trends. Bob
  23. Its worth checking out Ebay under tipper bodies because chip boxes do turn up. The one on the transit which came complete with subframe and telescopic ram , I got for about £300 so even after collecting it if tou value your time it was under £500.That has a separate tool compartment. Bob
  24. No mention of logs Now Whitehall's crazy eco zealots want to ban your gas cooker, writes CHRISTOPHER BOOKER | Daily Mail Online Bob
  25. The JCB has an out front mower that sticks out a lot further than your proposed digger. The lower deck of the trailer is 30 feet. Bob
