    I think with saws you take a risk, eBay is great for a lot of things but unless you can repair/rebuild your saw you could be safer getting one from a local dealer.

    A local snap on truck was very safe so the put chains on the back doors and ripped them off. Don't leave gear in your van.

    Sorry for hijacking your post Dorset, didn't mean to, I would say if you don't need petrol the electric is good and one less engine to service, and a lot cheaper/quieter.

    If you are only going to split the smaller size of log for the splitter (as I do, about 16 inch) you are best to tighten the table levers so they are solid, makes it one less thing to check after a log has "bounced" due to a tough bit.

    I think most machines work best with a few mod. For £500 its a lot of machine.
