  1. As above, not had it with my 540t yet but the 201 used to do it when clutch springs worn, does it let out the odd screech?
  2. Had an email from Bioequipment in Wales today offering new PC Stall pto chipper with crane package 25k +VAT and delivery. Up to 12" screened chip from 6mmup to G60 Seemed like a reasonable deal but I've not heard of them before, anyone rate them?
  3. Ah could be! Thought it was a bit pale looked like one of the little saws mac made for husky, I've not come across poulan☺️
  4. Couple of real pros with a mac....
  5. I bought one of those out of kays catalogue in 1990, about £70 (£1 a week). It was **** and my mate mounted it on a tricycle for a laugh! In the back of my mind was a niggling memory that it didn't have a back handle and you've confirmed it!😄
  6. 😀😀😄😀👍
  7. Done, but as above and I make n sell my own
  8. Your spot on! Those last 3 you mentioned taught me loads. They are equally brilliant as a cover to cover read or a dip in reference. Also your remark about information storage is right and we now have school teachers saying kids don't need to learn to write (just read), although it's great we're becoming too reliant on computer technology!
  9. +1 👍👍
  10. Hi, I thought you were sposed to inoculate as soon after cutting as possible to reduce competition from 'wild' fungi ! I've done it a couple of times but the 1st time used a drill bit 1mm to big and think when I sealed tops wax went down the sides effectively sealing off the plugs from the oak resulting in about 10 shrooms off about 12 1m logs : (
  11. I get em from a odd little yard just north of norwich been goin there years, proper old fashioned agricultural engineer, cash only, bit out your way I reckon though! But any agricultural supplies place should be able to help. I'm sure there's burners who'd be interested in selling bulk, could be a tight profit margin (I don't make a fortune from it but it keeps me occupied😄)
  12. That's a bute, wanted a bull nosed scammell to pull my showmans for years but had Bedford m types instead ( cheaper to fix )😄
  13. Sorry just realised it's the charcoal you want!
  14. Selway packaging do nice printed bags but think they've got quite expensive, I now use plane spud bags (hold about 3kg) or clear heavy duty plastic ones (hold about 6kg but they can sweat a bit)
  15. Are you using the younger rods for anything, if so I wouldn't use a clearance saw as you will damage rods/whips. What are you trying to achieve? Possibly you're trying to get a single, larger block of even aged stools? Couple of guys I know use those big, wooden handle, sprung shears, which will cut up to 2", leave a clean cut and save you a fair bit of bending, silky good clean cut but tedious and you'll end up with a hump if you do it a lot chainsaw the same but quicker but if your rakers not right wil b raggedy on smaller stuff! Hope this helps, have coppiced acres and acres of hazel so have a fair bit of experience😃
  16. Hi, you may find this the case with Stihl warranty but not Husky we had 2 550xpg go pop the same day which were fixed under warranty they commented on our use of non Husky oil but only in passing, it was the first time we'd been running saws on another brand (Oregon) in years and I won't be doin it again!😢
  17. There's a chap with timber yard down the road from me with a matador and a militant he still uses em daily, says he'll get round to restoring them but he's now over 70 and always too busy filling his yard with big butts and other old iron dinosaurs!😄I'd love either of em but I think there'll be an auction when he tucks his horns in and they'll go for good money!
  18. How hard can it be?
  19. That's really sad, I've enjoyed a few of his books over the years, what a source of knowledge!
  20. And it's been used for bows for over 7000yrs😄
  21. Definitely squirrels, juveniles strip the base of the hornbeam particularly in early spring when food is scarce, it means you have a very high number of greys, I've had exactly this problem in my wood which is old hornbeam coppice that was coniferised in the 60s and now were clearing them the little feckers a doin major damage
  22. I'll put it on the post I tillered it on and take a pic, yeah it's not comfortable to use for long the limbs are quite thick because of the knott so really stacks. I've only done 3, one of which is an ash 'holmgard' style flatbow about 30lb, fell out with the missus for a bit cos then went n forked out on 60lb (max comfy draw weight for me) gascoigne flatbow and she found receipt😁 it feckin lush though!😀
  23. I have a few yew staves sawn with silky sawn not cleft though, could probably sort you a couple when things are quieter. Here's a rough one I've started working on: it's not a long bow or a flat bow but a go with the flow bow😄 it's 72" long about 80lb draw at 28" with a big knot hole!
  24. Really good thread! Tom D and Spruce Pirate you have pretty much summed up all my feelings/suspicions about FISA. I joined about a year ago (as a small business membership is pennies!) and yes you do get a car sticker but also a strip of wee stickers to put on your pencil case etc😄. But that's about it apart from being badgered about FISA courses (mostly management training) or bulletins about forestry ( and arb ) incidents, accidents, some of which appear to have happened years ago. The new FISA leaflets are identical to the old AFAG ones just different header and everything seems to be led by the big boys, don't like it😠
  25. Hi peat, only just seen your post, I was lookin at getting an Exeter retort with some euro grant money that is available round these parts, but decided against it as I would be forced to concentrate on that to meet grant requirements and to be honest a) I can't be arsed with the paperwork/ dealing with bureaucrats and b) I like to be able to drop and pick up projects on my terms. I'm makin the retort from a small(ish) rollonoff skip and some large 500lt propane tanks which will sit in a cradle in the skip ( it's tad more complicated, but that's the basic principal )😄
