  1. I coated the ends of a load of freshly cut Sitka posts with TuffDip a few years ago and they are all still solid. Tuffdip Fence Post Protection Thing I like about it is that it's not got the nasty chemicals associated with other preservatives. I'd buy some again when the need arises.... cheers, steve
  2. Best to be very careful using images apparently available 'freely online'... could land yourself with a hefty retrospective image licensing fine via eg, Picscout / Getty Images. Cheers, steve
  3. Been using a Forst TR6 (not mine) for a few months now.... I think it's brilliant. Very strong chassis so is very useful for tugging trees. The tracks go in and out which is useful for narrow tracks and in the wide position you've got the extra stability. Munches 6" sticks all day long with no problems. I also like the large STOP START buttons on both sides of the hopper. cheers, steve p.s.... actually, the whole thing seems like it's built to last. Way stronger (and less rattle) than the Jensen we've been using.
  4. Yes they are available to buy, but if it were a prize then nobody would bother entering the competition! cheers, steve
  5. ah cheers chaps. Don't think I would qualify for winning the top handle as I don't have climbing tickets. oh well, maybe next month. cheers, steve
  6. Do you need to have climbing tickets to enter? cheers, steve
  7. Cor that looks a beast! Where are you based? cheers, steve
  8. Maybe write it on the back of your hand? cheers, steve
  9. Oh yes, just noticed that. They say: "The reviews on Arbtalk are also positive" err, I think that should be: "Some reviews on Arbtalk are positive but mostly negative" cheers, steve
  10. If cheap chains like Piranha aka Rotatech break so readily (which they do) then it certainly ain't as cheap as they like you to believe. cheers, steve
  11. Why poor digger driver? Did he/ lose their job over that?.... or just a half day of pay? cheers, steve
  12. haha! great videos Steve. Made I larf. cheers, steve
  13. oops, sorry for my late response.... to confirm yeah I was just being a silly nincompoop (with a feeble attempt at sarcasm). cheers, steve
  14. Could be that the hire company have restricted the tracking speed, etc to reduce wear. The last two things I hired were restricted.... (a petrol water pump & even a cement mixer!). cheers, steve
  15. Hi all, I need a new phone and somebody suggested I look at cat phones.... I think he must be pulling my leg. Do you use a rugged phone? I'd like one that has a battery that doesn't need recharging for a week, sends & receives texts & maybe something with a GPS Sat Nav thing built in (although not essential because I can orientate not too bad via the position of the sun). I don't need the phone for emails or searching the internet. Definitely dont want to spend any more than a £100... (preferably no more than £20). Any suggestions? cheers, steve
  16. Me thinks the advertising description/ marketing has been ever such slightly exaggerated. cheers, steve
  17. My final review of Piranha chain came earlier than I expected.... It's roughly half worn. Then one of the cutters broke off today. They were all there first thing this morning.... then I cut some wood (without hitting any stones, metal or dirt), then I went to resharpen it and found one of the cutters had completely vanished - not just on the top edge.... the whole cutter had gone. So that confirms it for me. Not such a bargain. I'll not be buying them again, or any other cheap chains. Cheers, steve
  18. Haha! Sound advice. cheers, steve
  19. That's great. Did you fall over when the handle came off?...the first time it happened I landed in a ditch. cheers, steve
  20. Nice one Rob. I'll be ordering a 15" Sugi bar (not long after the Piranha chain has kicked the Husky bar into touch)! While I remember thought I'd give a bit of feedback after using the Woodchuck Dual: - It's not just great for rolling big trunks but also brilliant for rolling hung up trees. - I found the neoprene handle came unstuck after a while so they need to use a stronger glue for that. - They missed a trick!.... the removable pin should be designed to be removed and replaced with a felling lever pin. Think that's all for now. cheers, steve
  21. I agree, it is a novel idea and it would be interesting to hear the result. The impact wrenches I've used in the past (doing garage work) haven't tended to wrip my arm over.... especially when compared to using a clutchless SDS drill (which have a history of keeping NHS A&E busy). My thoughts are that having bags of torque may not be such an important element because the constant hammering may be enough to get the cone moving. I guess it would work up to a certain diameter; but the maximum diameter it could cope with is anyone's guess. cheers, steve
  22. It's also worth considering using the Dogs Tooth cut on a straight tree (non leaning) whilst felling in strong wind... I found that out on an ash tree; my first Barbers chair. It happened very fast & scared the hell out of me. Cheers, steve
  23. No arb work 2morrow for me so I'll be relaxing by doing nothing but....um, DIY works! No sandwiches to make tonight which is a bonus. One minute past mid nite and I'm outa here. cheers y'all zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
