  1. sadly, this is true: I knew someone that locked a thief (who was planning on stealing his motorbike) inside his garage. The police said they had to attend to other things that were of a higher priority, advising him to open the garage and let said thief go! .....so he phoned them back a minute later and said "okay, i'm holding a carving knife from the kitchen and wanted to make sure you're on the phone while i open the door".... the police told him to leave the garage door shut and arrived 3 minutes later. Rural theft doesn't seem to be much of a priority at the moment, but if you have to phone the police remember to tell them you are carrying a knife, axe, chainsaw, froe, etc!!
  2. Looks nice.
  3. This makes sense on so many levels. If you have an orchard or are thinking of planting fruit trees have a look at this video: How to Convert a Conventional Orchard into a Perma-Orchard | Permaculture Magazine [ame= ] [/ame]
  4. Don't know?... not my saw.
  5. Every time i check into the Arbtalk forum i seem to be reading more & more thefts, or attempted thefts. Is this what's happening as an average across the country? Starting to get paranoid wondering if they are in here amongst us!
  6. What with there being so many CCTV cameras scattered across the whole of the UK road network isn't it about time that the police put 1+1 together and thought "oh look, a silver subaru like that bloke just phoned us about, lets 'ave a look" (assuming you called the police) So many thefts yet so little action.....
  7. 560xp piston went ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch!!!.....here on ebay: Husqvarna husqvarna 560 XP xp professional petrol Chainsaw chain saw | eBay
  8. Interesting video. Thankyou for sharing it.
  9. Judging by the smiles on the old girls faces i think it's great
  10. I also like this... should adopt our own 'ArbourHood Watch' Maybe this is something that could be made more official (with police involvement).... Here's a template to play with:
  11. Hi jon, the BBC have forecast for the wind speed to be dropping. Where did you get your info? cheers
  12. Been quite windy today in Haverfordwest, took the warmth out of my bones. Time to get the winter clobber out soon....
  13. What are you reading at the moment? Here is mine for a while....
  14. I swear they make chemicals knowing they will get banned, but always working a step ahead on the next replacement....knowing it will also get banned, etc, etc
  15. Heck, I've been climbing trees unsupervised since childhood, and more often in welly boots! But saying that, I never go beyond what I know I'm capable of and comfortable with. Yep, I will be looking at getting lessons.... All the trees in question are for felling, initially about 150 of them; all Sitka Spruce & Western Hemlock.... not that I'll be spiking up all of them, just enough to clear space for felling at ground level & to prevent hangups.
  16. Not heard of a soft link, or crabs, and not even sure what a normal climbing set up is.....
  17. Thanks ordering the one by Jeff Jepson What's the basic setup for spike climbing (so i can start to plan a budget)?
  18. I want to start climbing and would like to begin by spiking up trees - the only gear I've got so far is a Silky saw (natanoko 60 ...330mm large teeth) and SawPod for strapping it to my leg. Apart from that I have zero climbing or safety equipment and limited knowledge. Any advice would be appreciated, and also a complete kit list (from helmet to spikes). Thanks, steve
  19. Wonder if they are comfy with wearing spikes. There's also a bib and brace version:
  20. Sounds like you should go for a large size, which probably equates to a medium size in real life term. So.... For Ripeur 2 gloves it appears medium is the smallest size they do; so by my estimations: - medium equals small - large equals medium - and extra large equals large Fitting instructions: shove your fingers in here:
  21. rover: Ha ha! I like mud to have a shiny sheen to it. Just thinking about what makes them last the best.
  22. Hi Mark, I went for medium/ size 8 but I have little hands. They fit quite snug on me so if you have bigger hands i suggest go for a bigger size To be honest i dont understand hand sizes or glove sizes!
  23. Before mud colour....
  24. Got the Ripeur 2 gloves delivered today and took them out for a drive.... I turned the colour from "sand" to "mud". First thing that surprised me was that they don't feel as bulky as i thought they might be. The stitching looks good. Comfy lining. I've only used them for an afternoon pulling and moving chunky bramble, and also tested by pulling a couple of gnarly blackthorn out of the ground (with spikey thorny bits, roots n all). Not ANY sign of anything getting through at all. Overall, so far, I'm very, very impressed. Will they last?.... that remains to be seen! Not sure if they're supposed to be waterproof, but so far the inside seems to be dry. Am i supposed to wash the dirt off with water? ....Or some kind of soapy solution followed by leather protection?
  25. Thankyou, thats really helpful. I'm trying to work out a way of doing all of my jobs just with a single chainsaw & a couple of Silky Saws.... unfortunately i don't think the t536 is quite powerful enough for what i need. Hoping that more powerful battery versions are in the pipeline.....
