    Huge!!!

.....don't mean to soumd like a pooper, and if it was my photo i'd be happy if it was shared on the forum. Sadly the stock libraries dont tend to see it that way and I wouldnt want you to get stung like others have. Just saying its best to ask to share to cover yourself. Another way of looking at it is if someone used your work tools without asking first you might be a bit miffed about that.

    Huge!!!

Best to proceed with great caution on sharing other peoples photos without permission.... although sourced from a 3rd party doesn't mean it's a free for all. If it were me I'd ask Steve for the photo to be deleted off the forum; just not worth the risk.
  4. ....so very sorry to hear this Matty. Life can be so cruel at times. Very best wishes to you and family. x
  5. I can see how useless a fixed thumb would be but wouldn't the hydraulic one work alot better? The F R Jones description says "The RSL Thumb Grab excels at logging work/brash and waste clearance" ....but i've not seen one in action. Have you used this one Doobin? I've also read that some grapples are crap at scrub clearing, so not sure what to believe!
  6. Here is the hydraulic thumb grab on F R Jones ....£425 inc vat, which sounds a fair price. Anyone used this? And, would it be any good for pulling out scrub, brambles, etc including the roots? Hydraulic digger thumb grab | F R Jones and Son
  7. What dya think to the hydraulic thumbs for mini diggers, like the one in this video? I like how it tucks right out of the way under the arm and that it can be used alongside a standard bucket, bit of a multi-purpose tool without having to changeover. Looks far more useful than a fixed thumb. F R jones sell something similar to this, i think: [ame] [/ame]
  8. From what i've read it is the best splitting wedge you can get, and yeah i'll let you know how i get on. The Fiskars X27 axe arrived today - it's surprisingly light in the hand. I gave it 3 strokes through the Fiskars sharpener and that gave it a really good sharp edge. The sharpener is plasticky but it definitely does the job well.... I imagine it would get damaged easily if something was dropped on it so best to keep it away from heavy logs, etc crushing it. The axe head protector cover is quite handy as it has a handle for hanging the axe up on a wall. Ideal for us as we have a 2 year old and he already likes the look of it!! Not had a chance to chop anything yet, hope to get 10mins on it tomorrow; here it is:
  9. I don't think i've done anything wrong - I would love a revolution in religion & politics, starting with an end to all war, so we can then all get together with a mutual respect for taking serious action on climate change. I would like our 2 year old son to inherit this.
  10. oh bugger, my fault. Obviously need a pair of specs for reading specs
  11. ah, thanks. Is a bit misleading of husky with the way they've quoted the spec then. But regardless of the difference in cc... overall, it's spec says it uses less fuel than the 550xp and is more powerful.
  12. I don't know about that?.... but if it has more power than the 550xp yet uses less fuel and doesnt scream it's ass off so much maybe it would last longer? Oh, AND it has less vibration than the 550XP!
  13. Just found this on the Husky website, anyone here using it? HUSQVARNA 555 - Powerful robust saws Not an XP. Looking at the specs the 555 engine is bigger (59.8cc) than the 550XP (50.1cc).... more powerful (3.1kw vs 2.8kw), has higher max torque (3.51Nm vs 2.8Nm) yet has better fuel consumption (438g/kWh vs 446g/kWh). Downside is that it is heavier by 0.7kg. Upside is that it's cheaper. Maximum power is at a lower rpm, so maybe it'd be more reliable than the 550XP? Any thoughts?.....
  14. Blimey, are those blades aluminium or has someone fed a concrete lintel through it?!
  15. Good to read this; confirms that i definitely shouldn't get a Stihl 261. Just waiting for the price list for a Dolmar 5105 from TimberCutterDartmoor
  16. That's an excellent example. Would be good to see more of those everywhere.
  17. That's terrierble!
  18. Yes acorns are definitely bad for horses; Lots of New Forest ponies have died this year. Part of the problem for this year wasn't just the shear number of acorns produced from the trees, but also because the strong winds brought the majority down within a short period of time: BBC News - Acorn glut kills New Forest ponies
  19. I've not had experience of the gransfors maul but it was my first consideration, but then i read so many great reviews of the Fiskars X27. For even bigger stuff I'm now thinking of getting a Gransfors splitting wedge and use that with a standard sledge hammer (which i already own).
  20. I know it's flea bay, and it's a land ROVER, but you'd Winalot if you got it for £3.40.
  21. Actually, come to think of it, the silky is a very serious saw not to be under estimated. i don't own a chainsaw at present and have done a HUGE amount of work just with the Silky. And thats including dealing with an 80ft windblown hornbeam. (Natanoko 60 330mm) ....just need a chainsaw to speed up the thicker stuff.
  22. I wasnt taking the pi** ! .....it was meant as a compliment. Have always enjoyed reading how people playing with words, otherwise we'd all still be speaking like "art thou unto", and keeping everything incredibly formal. but sorry to detract from the post subject matter......
  23. Hey Matt, i like your twist on the spelling of 'dimension'. .....Dimentions. Like that
  24. despite reading some bad reviews about it, i also ordered the sharpener!.... cant wait to find out how crap it is, or isn't!
  25. Even with the Amazon discount (when signing up for the Amazon Mastercard) it comes out at £46.24. That's 24p more than FFX tools. The normal price on Amazon is £51.24 + delivery at £2.99 FFX Tools is £46 all in.
