  3. Hi Dave, this is where i got mine, here ya go Ripeur 2 Leather puncture resistant glove :: Safety Hut : World class personal protective equipment for industry Not many companies seem to be stocking them, so let us know if you find any cheaper. Don't be put off by the price - they work brilliantly, apparently even better than welding gloves, and long lasting. To find out a bit more, search "Best gloves for Hawthorne" on the forum cheers, steve
  4. How loud is the full myffler mod?
  5. Is there much of a db sound increase with it removed?
  6. oh dear, not good
  7. I had a deletion & won a few Arbtalk points for swearing (with *stars) on this thread. Better be careful now!.... Owen Paterson isn't doing a very good job and has made a few boo-boos, in my opinion, but maybe things will get better. Peace & love to all men, women & children. With very best wishes, steve. *mwah*
  8. Re: Beyond controlling cows (of which we have none) - are there any other benefits? It hinders but doesn't tend to actually keep people out altogether, so I'm not seeing that as a benefit, especially when compared with good hedging. And it works both ways... barbed fencing hinders our own access to do jobs.
  9. From reading the posts, generally, it appears barbed wire has a use for keeping cows contained, especially where the top line is electric. Beyond controlling cows (of which we have none) - are there any other benefits?
  10. Hey chaps, interesting stuff... but this thread is titled "Barbed Wire. Why?"
  11. We've decided to go barbed wire free - should only take us 15 years to remove the damned stuff. We've started building a dead hedge in the meadow (which we intend to gradually merge/ turn into an edible hedge over the next 5 years). It should be a great tool for encouraging birds to venture out of the woodland, backwards & forwards, and dropping their phosphates over the horticultural area. This kind of thing doesn't seem to happen with barbed wire.
  12. If it's got a nice chunky looking trunk I would remove the Ivy and then make a next decision. (Make sure you've got a pair of Ripeur 2 gloves handy!)
  13. Looks like a top job you've done there. Especially liking the overhang/ balustrade. Bet they love it p.s.... has it got a mezzanine inside?
  14. Bet they do the horses every week
  15. There ya go Felix! ....not an ipad, but it has got flash! (light).
  16. Reaching for the Brandy, cant handle it. Then i need to wipe some boiled linseed oil over some shelving for the greenhouse. *yawn*
  17. Think you'll find Steve is booking his all expenses (paid by us) 1st class flight to Hawaii, for a month or so....
  18. *tumbleweed rolls by.....*
  19. Maybe you'll win an ipad?....
  20. Oh well, you get to join the ipad crowd
  21. Just had a thought.... anyone done John o groats to lands end as a two legged race before? (not that i'm volunteering for that!)
  22. Well done for running the raffle to Mr Steve, & also well done (and good luck) to everyone that bought tickets. Looks like it's going to be a great total raised
