  1. Thanks chaps. Hawthorn would be embarrassing! (Though at least one of my apps doesn't include hawthorn, so that's my excuse!) But it probably is. No thorns, but they both look fairly aged trees and I believe mainly the younger shoots of hawthorn have thorns. I'll go and see if I can find any remaining berries, but those I saw do look like hawthorn berries according to the interwebs. Cheers.
  2. Hi all Found a couple of these near me. Tried various apps and books, but can't be sure. The leaves look like some sort of oak, but it has red fruit of some sort (mainly gone now, especially on this tree), and the stem is quite gnarled and twisted. Sorry, the pics aren't great! Any ideas? Thanks.
  3. Telephone Preferences Service? (Not sure if that applies to business phone lines as well as personal though). Won't stop them all, but it will help. TPS
  4. @ normandylumberjack I used to live near St Michael's Mount in Cornwall - twinned with yours I think!
  5. That was a good un. I like the way Harry Enfield struggles to stop himself smirking during the dongle part!
  6. Does one row of conifers really matter in the grand scheme of things...? Just a thought.
  7. Also, if you do arb work every day, does it become just a job and you get bored of it? Or is it still enjoyable?
  8. I don't love my work too much at the moment. But I don't work in arb! I work in IT... I'd rather be outdoors chopping logs etc. Having said that, when the rain and the wind are hissing down outside it's nice to huddle a bit closer to the radiator and my monitor, and to be glad I'm not out in that halfway up a tree...
  9. I'm in north Somerset, west of bristol. Yourself? Cold here tonight, but got back too late to light the stove. The heat doesn't spread well from my living room, so that's baking and the rest of the house is cold!
  10. Had mine going a few evenings recently, but it seems to have warmed up again - get too hot with the stove going anyway!
  11. Could you not just screen shot / print off a Google maps satellite view...? Not sure if that would be legal for commercial purposes, but I'd have thought it would be enough for boundary marking etc. Maybe not for individual tree level stuff!
  12. Hi Alex Well done on the comp placing. Just wondering, would you be able to grab a photo of the first hedge as it is now, at some point? I'd be interested to see how the re-growth is coming along... Cheers.
  13. Hi Russell. Yes thanks, got in touch and he's doing a hedge the next village down from me soon - just trying to sort out times etc. Cheers graham, I'll take a look - nothing like ready to compete, but I can watch! Cheers.
  14. Some years seem to be better than others for fruit trees. Last year I got no apples and no plums - year before that lots of both, and this year lots of both. Last year I did have the apple tree cut back quite hard, but the plum was untouched (though it still grew vigorously) - apparently last year was a bad year for many fruit varieties (over here anyway)...
  15. Nice job! Is the trailer braked? How does it tow behind the Jimny?
  16. Thank you, folks. Goat willow it is. I'll leave it where it is (in a flowerbed!) to feed caterpillars and bees until it gets big enough to be a problem. Cheers.
  17. My neck of the woods! Some impressive trees at Ashton Court. Nice pics.
  18. Thanks. Did wonder about that, but I thought willow had hairy undersides to the leaves, and this doesn't...? Whatever it is, something appears to be nibbling the leaves, leaving just the veins as a sort of skeleton.
  19. Hi all Got a small tree growing in the back garden. Been there for 2 or 3 years now and is about 3m or so high. I thought it might be alder, but the leaves seem a bit too pointy. Or wild cherry perhaps? Any guesses? Thanks.
  20. Cheers James. Def no hurry. I'll come back to you in due course - not much point having a new garden bench at this time of year!
  21. Nice benches! Out of interest, what sort of amount would you charge for the larger of the two? And can you deliver? Cheers, SS.
  22. Looks good. Not used one, so can't help you, but tempted to get one to go behind the Jimny!
