  1. Cheers. To be fair, it does look like a lot of mill for that money. Probably more mill than I'll ever need, and too static. Interesting though...
  2. Just out of curiousity (and thoughts for the future), when you say very inexpensive what sort of cashish are we talking? Thanks.
  3. Agreed. Had my chimney swept this year by a different person to my usual chap, and he's left me a certificate saying it's dangerous! Apparently the flue is too close to the mantelpiece (it is, but it's been there for at least 10 years with no problems) and the stove shouldn't be used as it's a boiler stove with a dry boiler (sand filled). Apparently the boiler area can corrode and fumes can leak out. But i've got a CO detector, and it's been fine for over 10 years! I think the regulations changed in 2010, after it was all installed. But it's odd that my normal sweep has swept it happily for years, taken his money and never mentioned any of these "problems"!
  4. Smart, that. Did you build it to a set of plans? I'd like to do something similar one day, but am not sure how to ensure it all comes together straight and accurately!

As I remember, the woodworm holes you see are flight holes, i.e. the worm has left the wood leaving those holes as it goes. So it may not get any worse? Unless more woodworm move in!
  6. Great chapter in a great book, that. Would love to visit Kyrgyzstan and the walnut forests one day.
  7. It'll never compare to the Jimny!
  8. I've got a few of his books, and like them. But the more I buy the more he seems to reuse / re-phrase earlier content. Still good though.
  9. Don't think my good lady would be keen on that. Can I borrow yours?!
  10. Looks good. I assume there's no way of laying the fire the night before, and setting it to ignite automatically at say 7am, so you can come down to a nice warm kitchen at 8am?! Cheers.
  11. Muffs (hur hur!) are apparently better than plugs as some sound waves also enter the auditory canal via cheekbones and other parts of the head. Muffs protect more of the ear / head. (This is mainly with regard to shooting, where your cheekbones are close to the gun, but I suppose it applies to some extent to other noisy kit too).
  12. There's a co called Gristwood and Toms in Hertfordshire. Don't know of one in Brizzol itself.
  13. Nice pics. I'd love to go to Scandinavia, but my missus doesn't like the cold!
  14. I'd be interested to know which sources you use? I use a number of online weather forecasts, and they all seem to disagree with each other, and generally bare little resemblance to the actual weather we get! Reminds me of the weather rock: If the rock is wet, it's raining. If the rock is swinging, the wind is blowing. If the rock casts a shadow, the sun is shining. If the rock is not visible, it is foggy. If the rock is white, it is snowing. If the rock is bouncing, there is an earthquake. If the rock is under water, there is a flood. If the rock is warm, it is sunny. If the rock is missing, there was a tornado.
  15. Get a powered log splitter! Dry oak is hard to split.
  16. Yep, this Sat to Mon inclusive. I can't make it this year
  17. Sorry, I meant in pic 2! The one with the multiple slots for chainsawing logs to length? Looks like wood bolted together...
  18. Looks good. Is there metal in the frame that's sitting on the back of the tractor in the first pic? Not sure where you welded it!
  19. I know, but I'm wondering if I can get say 2/3 the performance for 1/3 of the price!
  20. Not compared to the eBay one at 35 quid! If I was going to spend 60 or so on the valiant I'd probably just spend a bit more and get a proper ecofan!
