  1. And the guy wearing the newly approved chainsaw wooly hat. Didn't see a CE or EN patch but I'm sure it must have been there. Or perhaps it was just some guy with a tractor and saw, plenty of them about.
  2. It's raining as normal but the rain is white and collecting on hard surfaces.
  3. I know someone for whom the idea of chain sharpening, is something to be done rarely and really badly. Even after the latest attempt at sharpening, the saw still rubbed away at the wood. The fact that the rakers are hardly ever filed doesn't help. This person has had formal training but still fails to sharpen at every attempt. I glanced over the other day and wondered if this time it would be done right. 30mins. later I observed the saw rubbing its way through another branch. Some while later, the 'frustrated cutter' gave up and went back to dragging brash. There have been offers to sharpen the chain but really there's little point, as next time they touch up the chain, in all likelihood it will be blunted yet again. I often wonder why this person doesn't have a go with the 'PowerSharp' system. Ok it might not cut as fast as a normal sharp chain. But it couldn't be nearly as poor as the present chain and the ineptitude of its owner. I went to school with some people, who after years in metalwork/woodwork, could still not file in a straight line or chisel along a marked line. For some people, working with their mind is the best they can do; for some, working with their hands comes naturally; for some, the two can be easily combined. But for others, sheer enthusiasm gets them through life. The 'frustrated cutter' falls into the latter category; just a pity enthusiasm doesn't get the saw through the wood any quicker but perhaps the 'PowerSharp' system would.
  4. Viewing on iPot Touch via app and both date & time are still there, (upper right-hand corner).
  5. Quite odd, all too wet and mild. The elephant's ear is in bloom. A tad early me thinks.
  6. Rained a bit last night but the wind it did howl and blow. But now it's just damp, calm and bright.

    Crazy Road

I reckon one either lives and looks on it as an experience or one dies. I don't see a problem. Personally I think it's mad but I'd still like to drive it.
  8. Not got an answer. Was considering going to bio chain oil but I'd rather not having read through this thread. Thanks for bringing up the subject, it's saved my a lot of trouble.
  9. As I understood it too. It would also be helpful, if individual woods/forests had documented & differing names. These then would have marked boundaries. But if a woodland has but one name and overall boundary. Then having pockets of standing timber, where say clear-cut has taken place in the past between said pockets. Well then it's down to a felling licence for more felling.
  10. Small customer base, so usually know the specified length and cut accordingly. As to width, it just gets split: over 3" to 7" dia. gets halved 7" to 12" dia. get quartered over 12" dia. split by three-four cuts, depending on amount of twist. By degrees, cutting takes little time. Extraction can take longer than expected. But processing takes the longest, (unless you're making hurdles in slippery conditions).
  11. Bright and dry at the mo' but waiting for the forecasted heavy rain.
  12. Think it must be a Meindl thing. I recently got a pair of 'Waldaufer/Woodwalkers' and while being comfy, they are snug to say the least. I'll never be able to wear a thick pair of socks in them. So come a cold winter, I may have to return to wellies.
  13. Thanks for the info, that'll save me a few bob.
  14. I was doing it as a favour and wasn't going to get paid for it. Gave a ring just before leaving and turned out he had enough people after all. So I didn't have to spend the afternoon slowing the progress.of drivers. No point getting wet just for the hell of it.

    Bar Oil usage?

Just had a look at the 240 manual and it's an automatic oil pump, so no adjustment. States 7mins. at 8,500 revs.
  16. I used ride and marshal old rules trials. You could always tell engines on Castrol. As they went by, the smell of fried bacon was unmistakeable.
  17. 572kg
  18. Night was somewhat windy and it poured. Now it's just blowing around 30mph and gusting 50mph but is still pouring. And I've a mid afternoon appointment with a spot of traffic control. I can hardly tell you how I'm looking forward to standing in the rain with irate motorists.
  19. That sometimes happens to me on the 'Touch' but without going to 'Loading'. When it does, I open up 'Arbtalk' via the Internet and sign-in. Keeping 'A' open, I then go back to the app and open it. While the site is open via a non-app entry, the app continues to function. But if the non-app login is closed, the app sometimes fails to function. Now someone is going to ask why I don't just view 'A' via the non-app entry. Because on a small screen, the app makes function and viewing entirely more enjoyable.
  20. Saw a sparks van the other day specialising in large first commercial installations - Pole-to-Pole.
  21. You bought a 550XPG to slice your bread! Bit of overkill me thinks. Mind the warm hands will go nicely with toast in the mornings.
  22. Called into a dealer today to order a bar. Ok, so I didn't buy the saw from them but they're a Stihl dealer and the saw is a Husky. But on their website, it clearly states they service both Stihl & Husqvarna. So I thought ordering in a bar would be no problem. How wrong could I be? "No. You'll have to try somewhere else. It just isn't worth it for us to order Husqvarna parts." One wonders how they could hope to service a Husky, if they're not willing to order in Husky parts.
  23. That may be ok when viewed on a PC/Mac with a 15" or greater screen. But would be a real sod on a smartphone or something like an iPod Touch.
  24. A question - managed to squeeze the nose today, (on the saw before some bright spark makes a comment on nose blowing). Anyway, the nose sprocket got jammed. A while later, I got it unjammed by a wee bit of prying with scrench; appears to run ok now and sprocket turns freely. Oh, it's a Husky branded bar and apart from that there isn't any other issues with it. Question is: Should I go with it and or order a new bar? Don't want to get a new bar if it's ok.
  25. How long will this last?
