  1. Been really nice today, got lots done and the fire might still be warm enough in the morning, to start up and burn the rest of the waste. Though slicing through two Torx screws really beat my chain up. It's going to take a while to sharpen it well. Hoping to get an early start tomorrow. Maybe beat the rain before it sets-in. Leave the chain sharpening for the rain afternoon.
  2. Metric is handy and oh so simple. In school, we had to deal with the beginning of metric in UK engineering, Whitworth Coarse & Fine, American Coarse & Fine and others. Most important to know which in order to avoid slips on nuts/bolts. But more important when you had to cut/tap threads to match presented work or odd nuts/bolts. And if you were preparing threads on lathes. It tended to go down badly, if you got setup, only to find you'd mis-identified the thread and or it's pitch.

    First saw

346XPG - if he can get one 545 - though reckon it'd struggle on 18" MS 260 - not 261 550XPG - if he can afford one Equivalent Echo to MS 260 MS 241 C-M
  4. Heading for the south coast later and hoping I'll have a couple of good days to help out family.
  5. Is it a law of averages, that the bigger the saw, the bigger the beard? Uh, sorry. Links aren't working on iPod but do through 'Web View'.
  6. I sometimes find watching YT, a bit like wandering into a library on a rainy day. You end up looking at material unrelated to the norm. Now I thought, "How not to cut down a rotten tree part 1" was scary and repetitive... if slightly amusing. But "How not to cut down a rotten tree part 2" just adds to the feeling of wonderment.
  7. Brush off the loose stuff with 25mm brush and lightly scrape off large deposits with the bar-cleaning-thingy. Then spray carb cleaner onto rag and wipe over pre-brushed areas. Now and then, the covers get a wipe over with 'Armor All Original'. Not quite as good as '303 Aerospace' but it doesn't smell of old socks and is 30% of the price. Nice and shiny, plus helps to prevent heavy deposits building up.
  8. Hailed most of the day but it's not sticking.
  9. You have my PM. Good luck with the assessment.
  10. Heavy rain and it's keeping me awake.
  11. Call the police and if camera/video camera were available, take photos, especially their faces, (and if vehicles were in evidence, models and reg. numbers too).
  12. Sorry...
  13. Have a gander through here: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rapeseed . Seems like the origin is the same and 'turnip oil' is just another way, if older way of naming rapeseed oil.
  14. Like many, I could well change my mind. Laburnum Giant Sequoia Atlas Cedar
  15. What you need is one of these. One shot = All sizes
  16. Overcast, damp. cold but only a gently breeze. Unless you're at 5,000ft where the clouds are whipping overhead. Just waiting for a heating engineer to arrive for installation estimate. He said 09:00, so a mere 1h 35m late and no call from him as to when he might actually arrive or apology for being late. Doubt he'll be getting the job.
  17. I do hope it continues to stay dry for you. Reckon you've probably had enough of working in flippers & snorkel.
  18. How the heck did 'might' turn into ghat?
  19. Fun and games yesterday going down continuous 1:4 with hair-pin bends, through extended forest. Snow on the fells, snow on banks and sporadic ice on road. Got the pulse racing for 50mins. (I'll not be going that way again in a long while.)
  20. A photo of the areas ghat help.
  21. Keep it simple and pour slowly at a steady pace. Haste makes waste as the saying goes.
  22. Personally, as many as are needed for field work and not an gram more. Most people I've come across, use whatever is cheap and handy but robust; wide pencil case, sm. ammo box, sm. tackle box, etc.

    14" chain

Let me get this straight. You've been paying 2p shy of £17 for 4x chains and throwing them away, after only sharpening each only twice! If you want a cheaper price, get a £9 Oregon chain from Rob D at 'Chainsaw Bars UK'. You could sharpen one of these chains much more than eight times. Heck, CS Bars will do you a genuine Stihl offing for £16.81.
  24. Sorry! Got that in the wrong order. Steps 1 and 3 are mixed up. Should have been: 1. Within the app version of Arbtalk, search for the thread you're interested in 2. When you've found it - then tap the three dots in the upper right corner. Arbtalk opens in a non-app view of Arbtalk 3. Scroll to top of page and highlight the entire URL 4. Opt for 'Select All', now opt for 'Copy' 5. Return to Arbtalk by your iPad/iPhone/iPod's menu button and opening the Arbtalk app - you'll enter where you left off in the same thread as before, from where you can 'Paste' the copied link, (URL) into your own post Sorry for the confused first 'helping hand'!
  25. corylus •Tap the three dots in the upper right corner of the screen •Select 'Web View' - Arbtalk then opens directly into a non-app view of Arbtalk •Search for the thread you're interested in and when you've found the correct one, scroll to the head of the page •Once at the top, highlight the page's URL and opt for 'Select All'. Now opt for 'Copy', which will copy the entire URL belonging to that thread •Now go back to the app version of Arbtalk by pressing your iPad/iPhone/iPod's menu button and opening the Arbtalk app - you'll enter where you left off in the same thread as before, from where you can 'Paste' the copied link, (URL) into your own post
