  1. Yeah it has damaged the thread, the new ones came out pretty quickly and it's cracked round the back so I've got a new one on order.
  2. Haha thanks stubby. I see what's happened now. The bolt that's loose in the muffler is a separate issue to the 2 missing ones I replaced (although probably caused by the vibrations). Stupid mistake on my part but I'm glad I know now, it's been bothering me all day how a bolt could have done that.
  3. It's got new bolts on it in the picture. The old one is in the lower exhaust hole, if you look closely the hole looks smaller because it's actually the Alan key head of the bolt. I just can't work out how it fell out and went into the exhaust hole. Even weirder is that it won't come out because the holes too small.
  4. I lost the 2 bolts out of the exhaust on my husqvarna 576 yesterday and ended up getting new ones. I just found the first old one but I haven't got a clue how it got there... Can you spot it?
  5. I think it's fair if they want to do the training as well, if they left you it would help them in their next job. If they don't want the training it's harder because no one wants the cost.
  6. Concrete's great... Right up to the point you have to repair it and see the cost now.
  7. Welcome to the site, congratulations on getting the business up and running. It's a nice website you have, only thing I would change is in the shop either state a size or even better have a picture where it says hardwood and softwood. Out of curiosity do you sell much softwood? No-one seems to want it where we are.
  8. I think a lot of people have been watching top gear waiting for them to trip up, this is the best they could come up with. I don't see a problem either, they just drove around London, the fact that the cenotaph was in the background is irrelevant.
  9. We're at the end of a stack at the moment so we're cutting up the oversize stuff. It takes a while but it is satisfying when you cut all the knots and bends out and it just fits through the processor.
  10. Nice video, it gets across all the information and is well made.
  11. Got these from a quick Google.Rubber Stable Mats (Four 6x4ft 18mm thick matting) For Sale in Milton Keynes, Bucks | Preloved
  12. A few farmers use 6x4 1inch rubber mats for cattle to lie on. You might get some old ones if anyone is pulling out old cubicles or in smaller. amounts from stables. I've got a few lying around I think but they're quite rough.
  13. We just got a Tajfun extractor, it runs off the mains though. I haven't had time to get anything welded up but I want to make a frame for a tote bag with a holder above to put the pipe from the extractor into. This is the only picture I have from when I was trying ideas.
  14. We're paying £58 delivered in. I think cordwood is around 1:1 ton to cube.
  15. I prefer oregon myself. Not much difference between them, stihl and husqvarna. There was a thread on here a couple of years back where some members did a blind test of files.
  16. Personally I wouldn't hire a chipper out unless I was using it. Too many people think a couple of nails won't be an issue but I expect you've thought it through so my only worry would be liability for accidents. Your best bet might be to hire out a man and chipper instead. Find someone who wants a bit of cash and can use the chipper. The chipper course is fairly quick and simple.
  17. I tried drying some but gave up, cutting diagonally did help a bit but I couldn't stop the splitting.
  18. It's all guesswork until you've done a year to be honest. I would guess at 5-10 tons a week, up to 15 if it's freezing. If they're not planning on drying the chip the logs will need to be really dry. Less than 15% ideally. 25% is the maximum on the inside of a freshly split log if you want the chip to burn.

    Poorly trees

Where abouts are you based? Someone here might live near you.
  20. 1 ton makes 3 to 4 cube of chip. We heat our drying shed with chip so it doesn't really compare to anything else but it's a 199kw boiler and uses 2 cube a day depending how much we're drying. A 100kw boiler for 2 houses I would hazard a guess at 10 cube a week. The biggest issue with chip is drying it.
  21. I had a similar problem on mine that was caused by a perished fuel pipe.
  22. We used silage sheeting over the top and about 2ft down the sides. It helped a lot and is relatively cheap but you'll be lucky to use it more than twice before it's wrecked.
  23. Should point out that the saws get used every day but not heavily by any means. Could be because it's nearly always on dry, seasoned wood, I rarely do felling. Our husqvarna 357xp is about 10 years old I think and on the odd occasion I do take it apart there's not even enough dust to be worth doing anything.
  24. Cutting oak today, big stuff through the proceesor, small stuff with the chainsaw. Glad we were inside, there was a little bit of hail.
  25. Never changed a fuel filter, except when I ran over my saw and that was the least of my problems. Also never cleaned the air filter and I only change sprockets when they're heavily worn. No problems so far.
