  1. Fair point, I've been in a similar situation where although you're still the cheapest any increase looks bad. The important thing is that you can survive on your starting rate, even if it's not making huge amounts, and there's so many variations that only the original poster can know if they can.
  2. Exactly. I'm sure that the original poster knows his costs and is happy with what he will make, you don't have to make a fortune to have a stable business and enjoy life. From the reaction so far he'll have plenty of customers and that's the important thing when starting out.
  3. Which area do you want to move into? For anything with chainsaws you'll want to start with cs30 and cs31 and look at getting a first aid course ideally. Be warned that the chainsaw courses are pretty expensive.
  4. Seems reasonable to me but I'm on alot less. It's plus parts so there's minimal other costs and at that price they should keep busy and get happy customers. Just wish I lived closer.
  5. We're going to try and sell some softwood. Hopefully we do sell a bit since it's nice stuff to cut.
  6. If you want to spend a bit more there's a husqvarna 435 with 15inch bar on fr Jones site for £252 Inc VAT. That's a 40cc saw.
  7. Sycamore is bouncy but once you get in it should split easily. Just let it dry in rings then aim for the cracks. As said above it's better to use a splitting maul than an axe. It's good firewood, similar to ash I find.

Same, we use NFU because our farm business was already with them.
  9. I would go with a PTO splitter but it might add too much to the cost if you only want a small one. Ryetec make decent splitters and they'll manifacture any size, length and features to order.
  10. Yeah, it's pretty much the perfect site after we took the fence off. That's actually a road but we only had 2 cars pass all day, only downside was we had to sweep it all at the end.
  11. I was leaving slight tracks so went to turn around, bad decision...
  12. We've been felling some trees today. Lots of really nice straight oak and all 40ft+ so it's a treat for us and It's nice to be doing something other than putting logs through the processor.
  13. We're the same, it's been a really good couple of months but we're slowing down now. I expect we'll get one more rush lf it gets cold again otherwise we'll be down to a few loads a week for the summer.
  14. Yeah, that's the downside of the anti vibration, it's really good on the current saws but you don't get the same feel of something loose as the older models and I do wonder if the engine vibrations are actually higher now. The bolt on the felling spike is constantly coming loose on mine other than that this has been the first thing to come out in 3 years of having the saw.
  15. Yeah it has damaged the thread, the new ones came out pretty quickly and it's cracked round the back so I've got a new one on order.
  16. Haha thanks stubby. I see what's happened now. The bolt that's loose in the muffler is a separate issue to the 2 missing ones I replaced (although probably caused by the vibrations). Stupid mistake on my part but I'm glad I know now, it's been bothering me all day how a bolt could have done that.
  17. It's got new bolts on it in the picture. The old one is in the lower exhaust hole, if you look closely the hole looks smaller because it's actually the Alan key head of the bolt. I just can't work out how it fell out and went into the exhaust hole. Even weirder is that it won't come out because the holes too small.
  18. I lost the 2 bolts out of the exhaust on my husqvarna 576 yesterday and ended up getting new ones. I just found the first old one but I haven't got a clue how it got there... Can you spot it?
  19. I think it's fair if they want to do the training as well, if they left you it would help them in their next job. If they don't want the training it's harder because no one wants the cost.
  20. Concrete's great... Right up to the point you have to repair it and see the cost now.
  21. Welcome to the site, congratulations on getting the business up and running. It's a nice website you have, only thing I would change is in the shop either state a size or even better have a picture where it says hardwood and softwood. Out of curiosity do you sell much softwood? No-one seems to want it where we are.
  22. I think a lot of people have been watching top gear waiting for them to trip up, this is the best they could come up with. I don't see a problem either, they just drove around London, the fact that the cenotaph was in the background is irrelevant.
  23. We're at the end of a stack at the moment so we're cutting up the oversize stuff. It takes a while but it is satisfying when you cut all the knots and bends out and it just fits through the processor.
  24. Nice video, it gets across all the information and is well made.
  25. Got these from a quick Google.Rubber Stable Mats (Four 6x4ft 18mm thick matting) For Sale in Milton Keynes, Bucks | Preloved
