  6. a shiny new 13mm ratchet ring spanner for that awkward nut on the end of height adjusting poles on the mill.
  7. whilst the tree is growing, but under fungal attack? or when the tree is down, fallen timber or logged? how long does it take to get going? I have a customer who had two monstrous beech trees felled (not by me luckily) he has given me the go ahead to mill some sections. the trees where heavily rotted around the basal area, hence there demise. should I wait a while for the spalting process, or open up a cut up the trunk and have a look in? thanx, Simon
  8. you can use a micro wave. google be your friend :-)
  9. thanks, where did my maths go wrong? and my man was after £5 a ft? could it be our "southern prices" why he is looking for that, or some other variation?
  10. 35! this is in the round still, not sawn. so, lets see. 96" x 54 x 54 =279936 / 1728 =162 cubic feet @ 35 = £5670 think my maths are out somewhere here any advances on my math must be the heat getting to me
  11. what is the going rate for cedar (atlas I think) per cubic ft. might have lump 4.5ftx8ft thanks, Simon
  12. my 064 does this very occasionally. I just hold on tighter and pull harder. I presume we are talking about the same thing here I've not yet experienced this on my 090av. that would probably break my shoulder s
  13. +1 osmo for me tooo
  14. I recall a few years back, umm perhaps 10 we had some monster oaks drop some monster limbs due to this. was the first time I had heard of summer branch drop or what ever it is called. these where garden trees, one was far enough away from property but I think it had a kids swing attached and was perhaps 24" wide or so. the other tree shed a HUGE branch that took 3 of us a day to clear, that went through three garden fences and two sheds and that was approx. 36"!!
  15. yes she is. w sx
  16. I knew that would get a few people goin I love old trees too, would hate to have to take it down. (too much work!)
  17. Jon, as far as I am aware it is. I dated it to around 1200. will dig my book out and see if I can find it. it has a tpo, which is surprising as its in the middle of nowhere!!! was hoping it needs to be felled. then I can mill it with the 090
  18. don't have any images, but a sako .22LR, .17hmr and nice thumbhole walnut stock airarms s310 @22ftlb 8 rabbits fell victim to the .22lr last week. best shot 80yds. 80% kill rate which was good as I have not shot since last year, and I could see my target as the hay fever was less that night!
  19. for the same reason the OP stated. whenever we finish trimming we always used to stand it upright leaning against what ever, was a pig to start and smelt of fuel and the symptom the OP expressed. this normally resulted in swearing and another 10mins wasted whilst it evaporated. now we leave them flat on the ground. no issues. as for the technical reason, I have no idea
  20. Was in a customers garden today doing the hedges and wandered over to this old veteran of a tree. what are these brackets and what does it mean long term for the tree. TIA, Simon
  21. do not store upright on the engine!
