  1. Are the buds on a goat willow not a different colour?
  2. Some ideal bits of kit there fellas. Thanks. Could you pm me some prices for hire please?
  3. Anyone got any ideas? Walnut esque bark, goat willowish leaves. Thanks
  4. Personally it's not an issue. If you have to go to a point to put the rope through a crotch then it's an extra 10/20seconds to choke a sling and pulley around that crotch and pop rope through it. Not knocking natural crotch, I do it and it has its place for sure. I work for one bloke in particular who prefers to run the ropes through a fork and he's great on the ropes. But I use his 3 strand and not my double braid if that's the case. I have Yale polydyne.....which is eye wateringly expensive!!! But I trust it.
  5. How much is a pulley? A swing cheek is £30 odd quid a block £60? Prolongs the life of your rope. Ten fold. Personally my lowering rope was a lot more than £2 metre so for me using a pulley is way more economical.
  6. What about the wear on the rope? I do a fair bit of natural crotch on small stuff and with a knackered old climbing line and have redirected using natural crotch on bigger stuff and it does take its toll on the rope. The heat it creates can cause som serious glazing
  7. Do many people tow biggish chippers with older trucks? I'm thinking of a Jensen 540 behind my 53 plate Cabstar. Legally the weight is fine but just wondered from those that run similar set ups how the vehicle fares long term?. Cheers
  8. I got 60 m of blue of nod @ tree worker. Works lovely in the bulldog bone.
  9. I reckon it'll be 2/3 days for two of us on a strimmer. There's quite a few trees that are to be retained with nice low crowns, so I'm thinking it may have to be grin and bear it.
  10. No it's a domestic customer on a small holding. Need to ring round for some prices, thinking perhaps just a walk behind flail mower to keep costs down
  11. Just been asked to give a quote on a clearance job. Bit of tree work but a lot of bramble bashing first. Just wondering where the best place hire an avant or something similar with a mulching head on. I'm near Worcester way. Any ideas?
  12. I have one sale if you want it. With a honey bros stiff tether. Going to stick it on treebay at some point
  13. Why not just get a big shot? You can fire a throw line through most things and from very close to the tree.
  14. Anyone know when the clear fuel tank was fitted as standard to the st6's?
  15. Sorry to butt in on this one but I have the same issue with mine. It's done it for a while now. I can be cutting and it'll just cut out mid flow. I've drilled the exhaust recently but it's been doing it way before that.
  16. Top tying like that is usually way safer than potentially having a butt flick up at you which it will do on a long upright stem. It also puts less dynamic loading on the rope surely? The Munter hitch thing, gives you a bit of control when drift rigging from one point to another, I guess you can also untie the hitch and use the rope to pull the lowering back to you from the other lowering point. For me that's a great set of techniques.
  17. This is the only pic I have of it
  18. A mate of mine has done exactly that. Steel frame with covered ply on the sides, all bolted to the bed of the truck. Looks really smart.
  19. Fly wheel bearings and roller bearings? From what I've heard arbor cut get the machines in and do proper job on them. Vat is a killer though
  20. What's your thoughts on hours when it comes to jensens? I've spoken to redwood and arbor cut and there's machines there with around 1000 hours on them. To be honest it puts me off, but Robert from arbor cut was adamant that they're good for double that if maintained.
  21. Yeah been on there every day mate. Few caught my eye and went. I'd like to get down to redwood and arbor cut but I'm flat out in the week at the monent.
  22. There seems to be a lot of these threads popping up at the moment. Here's another.... I'm looking for my first chipper, about 10k to spend, 6" or 7.5", any of the major brands considered, perhaps swaying towards Jensen. Have my trailer licence so weight not a deciding factor. If anyone has anything or knows of anyone with something, let me know. No massive rush and am happy to wait for the right machine to come up as I can hire on the cheap at the moment. Cheers
  23. I totally agree. I havnt got a problem with spending the money on something that's going to work. I spend more time at work than not and I want to keep dry. I have a cut and climb, to be honest I'm not that keen. I've ripped the arm on mine and won't be getting another. I'll be interested if anyone has any recommendations. There's a few web sites that have some good coats on sale. I have a haglofs for out and about and I may get another for work.
  24. I may also be interested in some of the kit.
