  1. I have a 160, mostly like it. Much quiter than the husky esaw. One disadvantage is the battery makes the saw bigger than the 150 and for some work the 150 fits more easily between branches etc. Only other odd thing is that I find myself revving it up! A warming up habit from petrol saws doh. Wish it had another/master on off switch which if I remember rightly the husky has. Sent from my D6603 using Arbtalk mobile app
  2. Allan Pickets in Ambleside manages the odd tree / crane job. Might be worth a call? Sent from my D6603 using Arbtalk mobile app
  3. My mates who work as full time hand cutters destroy saws at quite rate... Particularly Huskys and it would seem over heating when brashing is a significant factor. Those of you working full time as hand cutters brashing and oversize/edge trees, what saws you using and how you finding the reliability? Obviously saw costs can be a significant factor. Don't want to hijack the thread so happy to move to another if appropriate. Sent from my D6603 using Arbtalk mobile app
  4. I have Steins, won't adjust short enough for me at 5ft 8ins. The top of the pads section catchs when climbing over branches and the attachment of straps gets in the way. They are very comfy sectioning down stems. They are marketed for taller climbers so I think that may be part of the problem. I also have some Buckinghams, less comfortable on stems but much more precise to climb in and don't catch. They do adjust to my size. I had to keep only one pair it would be the Buckinghams. 5. Many thanks everybody, a plan of attack can be sorted.
  6. https://goo.gl/photos/VaEcbjcUw8sSp8bQ9 The above link should enable you all to see some fungus(?) on some apple and crab apple trees. I suspect clearing some space around the trees would be a good first move. I am under the impression that following that it would be sensible to spray with some fungicide. Can anybody educate me further and confirm or otherwise my thinking? Assuming Fungicide is a good thing to do, any recommendations? Many thanks David
  7. Morland Tree Services, based near Penrith in Cumbria has a number of projects at the moment where I need some help. I am looking to meet people who would be interested in working with me on a self employed basis. Some of this work is quite complex and some of it straightforward. Previously we have found that it can work well for Arb or Forestry Students on the days their not in college but we are also keen to meet experienced arborists that would be interested in working with us. Please email [email protected] or call me on 07909923825

  9. Thanks for Steve, unfortunately my stolen saws weren't on the list. And yes I will get all my tools on the register. Regards David
  10. I destroy the Husqvarna ones in no time. But my mate who uses the full time in forestry can't break them.
  11. One of the lads I work with has a protos helmet but with standard ear defenders fitted.
  12. Serial numbers for two of the saws: Stihl 150TCE 179382791 Husqvarna T540xp 2013300938 Should anyone be offered one of these saws please let me and the police know.
  13. As previously posted in a different part of the forum. We had five saws a nd a blower stolen from our pick up. We'll track the serial numbers down. Should anyone see this combination for sale let me know. 150, 201,540,261,441 and?
  14. I have a pair, they have been great including a resole at haix. Keep feet dry in the wettest conditions. Neat toe so not to bad for climbing in. Down sides, they have stretched a little and are nothing like the origonal colour!
  15. We had five saws and a blower stolen from a pickup in Birmingham yesterday. 150, 201, 540, 261?441, and stihl?? Anyone see this combination coming up for sales etc. Let me know. Thanks
  16. I've got some cheap motorola walkie talkies, weather proof. Butchered an ear defender to fit the ear piece behind foam inserts. So far so good.
  17. My perception is that there are a number of pieces of equipment evolving outside of Europe (particularly in the USA ) that work well. Three examples being the: 'singing tree - rope runner' srt device 'Gordon Svedberg's - bull dog bone' and the 'tree stuff- aerial friction brake' lowering device. As I understand it these are not CE marked and therefore the UK (or European) dealers can't stock/sell this equipment. However non CE marked kit does migrate across the Atlantic and is being used here. How do we all stand if are using this equipment or allowing our staff to use this equipment in the work place? When it comes to the LOLAR inspection what are the implications? Thoughts please? David

  19. Hitch climber for SRT converting to DRT when useful, zig zag when SRT has little advantage. I find zig zag is less tolerant when filthy and covered in sap/resin. Agree Zig Zag is smooth for drt so long as its clean enough.
  20. I'd be up for a day climbing to learn more about competitions. There are a few lads that work with me might be interested. Let me know if your interested. D Home page for Morland Tree Services
  21. Just got myself a pair of werewolf boots. Excellent for climbing, reminded me of the difference between mountaineering boots and and early rock climbing boots (EB's etc.) back when I was a lad.
  22. How are people getting on with the bridge wearing? My mates had one six months part time climbing and it's trashed.
  23. I have a big shot, saves me time BUT some of the lads I work with can match it for height and accuracy!!! Practice I guess?
  24. We had a husqvarna electric chainsaw on a job this week and have to saw I was impressed. Biggest thing was lack of noise and easy communication on an awkward rigging job. Think I'm going to buy an electric battery chainsaw. So ladies and gentlemen, what do others think of these tools and what are the pros and cons of the different brands? Thanks David
