  1. Same with our ms210. Runs perfect on a cheap carb. Not everything made in China is scrap
  2. Our 210 did this a while back. It had done a hell of a lot of work with zero maintenance (if it ain't broke don't fix it...) Change out the carb. A new one is almost as cheap as a gasket kit. Check the fuel lines at the same time.
  3. Been using Archer chains for just over 18months and have been very impressed with them. Using them for firewood cutting. Keep their sharp very well. No issues, got the chains on 2x 52cc 18" saws and on the 68cc 20" bar too. They say Archer of Australia or something like that on the packet... but they do also say made in China in small print. If I remember correctly
  4. Mostly for firewood and fencing/maintenance work on the farm but .. Stihl; ms210 036 Makita DCS520 x2 DCS6401 DCS6800i
  5. Yep, it is something else! Heavy by modern standards, but its real nice saw to use. Nice to know I'm not the only lover of that saw ?
  6. You lucky lucky git!! Cherish it for the rest of your days, they are mighty saws ? my one is my pride and joy
  7. +1 Bought a saw a while ago which wouldn't run... did a good once over then stripped the carb - somebody had put a new diaphragm in upside down ?‍♂️flipped it over, she's been a great saw ever since ?
  8. The 5600 has a plastic chassis and a clamshell crank, whereas the 6100 is a solid metal chassis/crankcase.
  9. The chains are the exact same, just more links/longer... the bars are different shape, size and pattern. For example a 3/8 0.058 in 18" for your 6100 will be a 64 drive link chain, but the same chain is 68 drive links for the 7910 18" bar... You don't change anything on the saw - leave it alone. The 6100 will 'take' the bigger bar but it certainly doesn't fit properly! (Been there done that with my 6800) I have 3/8, 1.5(0.058) on all my blue Dolmars running from 15" right up to 28". For the reasons you are thinking about - you only need 1 file etc for sharpening.
  10. Bumping this again. No verdict on longer term ownership??

Yeah, the bearing doesn't seem to be a regular size either! I couldn't find an 'off the shelf' one that matched the dimensions. Little bit frustrating.

Ive got the box. It's the 50(ish)cc saws can come in the box (quite often the saw pushed as a 'farmer saw') Dolmar 115i or makita dcs520/5200 and now the 5100 series... My 6401 doesn't fit but id need to check whether the 6800i would or not (pretty sure it won't) In a vehicle it's a good idea for safe storage, but my one lives in the shed - I tend to use it for keeping spare parts in. Like @shavey says, the bar stays on the saw and it pokes out of a slot - then you put the scabbard over the bar to protect the chain. There's room to put some tools/spare chains in around the saw, but not lots of space. It's a nice thing if you have it, but you wouldn't miss it if you didnt

Nice! The Meteor replacements seem pretty good. Cheers for the catalogues ? I'm still waiting on that clutch bearing to come in for my 6800
  14. I think I'd like to see Dolmar written in white and using the Makita font type. Is it just the lighting in those pics, or are the guards different shades/colours?
  15. Ahh, I thought you were needing a part, sorry didn't realise you were after the wrap around. @shavey definitely is the man ? I love the saws but I don't really get the whole Makita-Dolmar relationship. Who owns who, if indeed one own the other... why is Dolmar happy to allow Makita to rule UK where they'd possibly sell better themselves in orange (more pro guys would take them seriously)... why have I seen some Makitas now in orange?... Not questions aimed at you, just some of the things I find strange and wonder about... glad you are sorted out ?
  16. What parts are you needing/are different? In my ignorance I thought they'd be identical, minus possibly carb and exhaust (due to different regulations)?
  17. Full exploded diagram and parts inventory here for dcs7901 (same saw but older). I use these guys a lot for my parts, very good service ? https://www.mtmc.co.uk/Product.aspx?ProductID=75629&strReferer=search&PPGR=0 If you know the parts you need, check through the diagram to see they are the same. Scroll down and buy ?

@shavey as promised It has been chucking it down here today, so not much I could get on with outside so started on the 6800... Everything went smoothly and it was a very straightforward build. I have made 1 balls up though... I have a 115i stripped for spares also, and lifted the wrong oil pump worm drive!! It is pressed onto the crank, like a bearing, and I only realised it was wrong after I had pressed it on!! I need to make an adaptor for my pullers to get it back off, as they don't fit... but minus the oil pump and clutch she is rebuilt. Took a bit of work to get her to fire up but the beast is alive!! The carb needs set properly, and obviously she needs finished before I can do that but I'm buzzing that she's running. (I hope the videos work - they were much longer but I had to cut them for the 7mb limit on here) VID_20181112_164530887~3.mp4 VID_20181112_164458906~5.mp4
  19. Apologies... was getting late and I was thinking of Dolmars which are PS for Power Saw (or the German equivalent) Dolmar Chain Saw ?
  20. Aye. It has a 42mm stroke which is the same as a Husky 3120 (119cc)... A Husky 288 (88cc) only has 38mm stroke - my 6800i (20cc less!) has a 36mm stroke. Big Dolly's all are a longger stroke than competition. As you say, makes for better torque so they can keep pulling. Source: Clymer Chainsaw Service Manual (10th Edition - models through 1998).
  21. I can assure you it IS a Dolmar. They've only recently stopped listing it on their site. Probably because the smaller 7900 is out performing it (power-£££)... so sales mean it's not worth continuing with. It is a very old school bruiser of a saw. EDIT: On Makita chainsaws, the DCS literally stands for Dolmar Power Saw

Yeah I noticed that last night. I hope whoever bought it has paid good for it... last I saw it had only reached £51. Too busy watching rugby I've not been near my one today. Maybe tomorrow...
  23. +1 Mix to the oil stated mix rate, not the engine.
