  1. No sorry i wasnt talking about the 420 atall - i was replying to Jesse talking about the larger 50cc Mak and Dollys.

Yeah im pretty sure the cylinder will fit - but the 6000 and 6800 has a bolt-on inlet manifold before the carb which the 120 and 120si dont have - the long screws which hold the carb on are positioned different - going by the Clymer Service Manuals... just wondering if the different carb etc would drop into a 6800 and it all work??

Yeah... im watching a 6000 on ebay at moment. Much rather keep her 68cc - but would step down if it keeps the saw alive. Does the 120/120si cylinders fit into the 6000/6800i saw? Looks to me like the carb etc wont fit?
  4. Ahh good info Shavey its still a good saw though, bargain price! I thought my new Mak was just darker blue because its new looks stunning with the black hood - expected it to come with the old grey one...
  5. The Makita version of the 5000 is a real steal! Buy the 'farmers saw' you geta 3/8 chain on 18inch bar, comes in a metal box with all the other usual bits for £350. If im right in saying the Dolly is £450-£500 (i might be wrong though!!). If you talk to TCD, there are differences between it and the Dolmar - id love to see tgese saws running side by side. Even so, the Mak is still a very good saw at a stupid price if you can put up with the wrong colour
  6. Every machine which breaks is always a manufacturer defect.... Not my fault the saw wernt designed to cut stones! No my fault that tractor is too wide! Not my fault those electrics cant handle abit of water! Not my fault that plastic cover doesnt stand upto being hit with a hammer! Not my fault...

Ahh yeah keep me in mind if you find one that would be ace, cheers! Im keeping the old gir anywayl with the hope of getting her going again, but who knows when a donor pot/saw will come along... at the right price

Sorry TDC its the wrong colour, but heres my new toy. Mak6401 - got her a couple weeks back but so har have just had alittle play and not any serious work (theres a huge bit of oak get her name on it though!). Theres no noticable difference in power from the 6800 IMO even though itis down on power a touch... but even if i do decide i want more oomph £55 buys the 79cc pot and piston - and then i will have a huge saw for only £590 Im still abit gutted my 6800 is dead though. Thanks again Shavey for sending me prices etc for the Dolmars, was - is much appreciated. Sorry you didnt get a sale.
  9. I like the looks of them... ...shame looks stand for nothing.
  10. Try your nearest Makita dealer

Theres not much difference - just the plastic 'arm' and mounts above the clutch cover. 6800i: Re-re-honed and have new piston rings, just need to get time to put them in and will let you know how it turns out

The 115i i had was a 1986 model... so the design is 30yr old. The Mak 520 i have now is idential (minus the change to plastic arm and mount above clutch for the handle). They really are great saws.
  13. I have a 210, but its almost idential to the newer 211 (isnt it??) Great small saw, IMO. It is a great little saw. Apart for 1 oil cap which perished and 1 new fuel line it has never given us any bother in 12 years of abuse.

They didnt sell! Nobody bid on them.
  15. Going by your pic... no wonder you use the de-comp. Your quite wee to pull over a big bad saw

Got that gasket Shavey... and she ran!! ..then she stopped and wouldnt go again... Took the cylinder back off, mustve not flushed it out proper when i honed it - nice new scratch i can catch my nail in up the wall This story isnt over yet... Didnt buy those saws on ebay - forgot they ended last night when i was out sorting a rabbit problem...

Just 15 mile from me so all good. He wants £185 for them. The 120 is an easy fix, as is the 118 i hope... the other 2 are 119's. Very tempted... ends tomorrow and no-one has bid

I found they older the mounts get the better they last. Brand new ones are too plyable and flex alot causing them to tear. Once they harden abit they last longer. Same with the 6800... (still waiting on that gasket Shavey to give her 1 last try! But theres a lot for sale on Ebay im very tempted in - 4 old Dollys, 2 of which are working)

Well i think my much loved Mak 6800i is dead... new piston, honed cylinder, replaced a few bits, put some new gaskets in her but iv had no luck. Iv one thing left i can try before i call time on her - i think it really needs a new cylinder... What big saws are Dolmar/Makita doing? Seems the 6401 is being stopped? Them 7301 is hard to get and the 7901 is over priced IMO - 9010 is cheaper (tempted - but really dont fancy using that as my main saw though...) Saw a price online for a 6401 for under £500 with 18inch bar - really dont need any more bars laying about! Thought that was good? Easy job to put a bigger pot on her for more power aswell! Shavey - feel free to PM me a price if you fancy a potential sale..m.
  20. Cheers spud (had thought the same after i read your previous post twice!) I shall fire on and see what happens
  21. Hmmm so your saying iv bollocksed the 2 saws iv honed?? The first i did, is running really well (dare i tempt fate and say as good as new!) and the other is almost back together (have had running and all seems well) but i need to order up a few other bits when i get time to finnish the job.

Hahaha We think alike, you and i!
  23. Youve searched for a new cylinder, so are braced to pay out for it. Youve watched youtube videos and have 'learned' how to hone the cylinder. Youve now nothing to lose by giving it a try and seeing what happens - youl either save yourself a cylinder kit and gain some handy experience, or youl knacker an already 'knackered' cylinder (and a new piston) then buy a nice new kit. So give it a go!! Iv been through it, i watched countless videos and bought a cheaper Draper honing kit like the tool in your first post - i never knew you could get the other type!!! Iv now done 2 saws and have new knowledge to bring a dead saw back to life. The spring loaded tool youve got to be very careful with as the stones catch easily in the ports if you bring it too far down the cylinder as you polish up, the other tool will be a far better option.
  24. Manalive... They arnt that bad. 12 years use, have replaced one which became brittle. Apart for that faultless. I wish my Makitas had them, instead of having to go digging in the toolbox for a screw driver when i over tighten them....
  25. Saw Troll will be along soon to helpfully inform you the Huskie is the dogs danglies, and Dollys are sh*te.....
