  3. Best month as in best chance of there being penty of work about!? Thinking of 6-12 months, obviously I know the duration of my trip will determine how much to take..... My question was more how long did people go for and his much did they take, was it enough? Could they have survived on less? Accommodation again my question was an experience related one, when people wentbdid they stay in hostels? Rent a room? Board with someone, rent a cheap flat? I'm going out looking for a second climber position. I'd hoped I could get away with two large rucksack's. Thanks for the advice
  4. Hi All! Hope everyone had a great christmas Been doing ballot of thinking recently about where I'd like my career to take me next, and I've come to the conclusion that whilst I can, I would like to travel and climb abroad to gain a few years experience and become the best arborist I can be. I've always wanted to go to new Zealand so I thought why not start there! Just wanted some input from the guys who've done this sort of thing, few questions! Best month to aim to be there? How much did you take? How long is long enough? What accommodation did you use? Did you take all your kit on flight or mail it out later?? Did you secure work before leaving if so best route? What visa did you apply for? Sorry if this is in the wrong place! Thanks everyone

  9. Is anyone else having their 661 replaced with a new production 660? My power head has been sent off to Germany, and I'm now hopefully awaiting my 660 replacement. Reason for replacement is performance related, just didn't cut it compared to the 660. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  10. Firstly all the best of luck too you, arb work can be an active rewarding industry to work in! Started my own setup 2 years or so ago from no experience (ish) And all I can say is the world and his wife are tree surgeons now..... I was in honey bro's just the other day and there were three guys buying full sets of kit, all fresh out of intensive courses on the lookout for work/experience. I love my work, but it can be a tough market. Biggest issues are initial cost of kit, insurance, staff.... Etc etc competition on price for work, so many seem to be willing to work for wages Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  11. Back your flip line up with your main line double choked around the stem when going to any height, then any slip you'll be caught by your main line so no worries! As long as you have the angle right, and you step your gaffs in hard enough, there is no reason you should slip Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App

  19. Thanks for all the replies everyone! Ok so I'm going to give the upside down gob a go, with a high back cut and see how I get on! Will also try deeper cuts to either side. I know Connie is very pliable and stringy! Just annoying when I can clear pretty much anything with deciduous wood. I've got 2 carritools on tree motion so I'll give clipping my rope up a go, I already do this when spiking up something. Think I also need to practice better rope management, tend to sort it out once it tangled! Rather than preventing it becoming tangled. And I did have a 201! And loved the scabbard..... Shame the rest of the saw was poo! Might see if I can get one of the scabbards to fit my 200. Thanks so much everyone! Great advice as always! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App

  21. Hi all! Recently I've been struggling with two things, and I'm hoping you guys can point me in the right direction! 1: snagging rope/lanyard on saw. When my saw is just hanging from my harness or the lanyard, I keep catching my rope! Did it today and I pretty unsure if I should keep using that particular rope now....! 2: when falling tall section of conni out when re topping etc I can't get the stems to jump clear like I can with deciduous woods. I've tried everything! Tiny gob, big gob, back cut higher than gob, nick the sides...... Thanks everyone! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  22. Also have one if anyone needs Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App

  24. Like others have said, just makes me feel like maybe I should have bought the brand new 660 someone had in stick at the time I bought my 661 they wanted and extra £200 over the 661..... Maybe I'm about to find out why! That having said, my 661 has so far been nothing but a pleasure to use.... Watch this space. Just another knock to my faithfulness to Stihl.... It was dented after I bought one of the early 201t's..... Sold it months later and bought a late 200t Having used a 261 I will never let my 260 wear out!! May go as far as to order crank seals pot and piston just to have on the shelf! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
