i thank you for offering to help but i've not been able to get a response from the company so i'll have to forget it. thanks for offering in the first place and sorry to mess you about. please pass my thanks to your mate for saying he can help also. it's a pain in the arse when companies don't return emails as i really would have liked some of that stuff. -
thanks for the pics mick. it looks like a softwood species to me and i think it might be douglas fir. what did it smell like when you turned it?

it's an interesting idea and sounds like it should work but you will have one thing to consider and that is the airflow of the model you have in mind. i can't find anything about the actual air flow on dysons so i don't know what they would be like as a form of suction. the only thing i can find is the airwatt which is not what i need to compare if i were trying to use one to make an extraction unit. my extraction unit is not the most powerful thing in the world but it does have some decent airflow at 2000m3 per hour. one thing you will have to consider is that dysons are intended for things like house dust, skin, pollen, mites, spores and general dirt. will it handle shavings???

sounds like i'd better hang on to mine then??? i was going to sell it as i don't use it for milling (the reason i bought it) as i never got round to buying a mill to go with it. i've just been using it a few times to cut up some large lumps before i sell it and even with my extremely limited experience with saws (different ones i mean) i have to say it's by far the best one i've used yet and to me is also very easy to use too.

i had this pop up today but i'd never seen it before and managed to click off it quickly.

the cyclone is fitted to a wooden ring and bolted on the perspex and there is duct tape over any gaps. the perspex plate has a foam tape round the edge so that it seals nicely to the wheelie bin. you don't get any blow out as it is a vacuum. when the machine is off you can just lift it up as it does just sit on the bin...

it is indeed around the weight of lignum but could vary a bit if it's not dry. i'll keep the 2m length limit in mind. -

as far as i know it is not heat that dries the timber. i thought it was the air flow that evaporated the water from the surface and this drew out the moisture from further down up to the surface and so on and so on. i think the heat makes this process quicker but the primary requirement is airflow, you can dry logs in cold countries...

i have an 084 that i don't use. bought it to use for milling but haven't found the time. it was refurbished by spud and converted to aspen. it has one 3' bar and chain.

any euc is a spectacular firewood and the bluegum i've burned lasted for hours on the fire gave out tons of heat and left almost no ash. as a woodturner with a stove i've burned more species than most be it exotic or native and it's at the top of my wish list for firewood if i can get it. -

it doesn't mean it's not up there beau, they just didn't include it. there are so many other hardwood species from all over the world that are not included in lists like these. don't other countries have these sorts of lists? and if they do where can i find them? i'd be interested to know calorie contents for african and south american species myself... -

not burned too many softwood species but i would have thought that yew must be high on the calorie list. would larch have more?
