    i'm not pushing it half a mile up a steep hill.... jacking it up on to a normal van is a possibility but a last resort.

    hi guys, bit of a last resort but i need to borrow a van with a tail lift for a small but heavy cast iron planer i need to shift. can anyone help??? i need it at J7 of the M4 hopefully on a weekend. it weighs about 200kg and can be manhandled on to the tail lift no problem and it only needs transporting about half a mile up the road so was hoping somebody would have a bit of goodwill and help me out. beer money will be waiting if it's wanted. by the way i can't drive due to epilepsy so it would be nice if the owner could do that bit...

    sounds unbalanced to me. start at as low a speed as the lathe will allow and gently rough down to a cylinder.

    looks like normal ash to me. the ailanthus i had was a slightly different bark and in my experience did not split as easily as i was expecting (i thought it would ping apart like ash) and with such a clean split i'd just say ash. ailanthus has a soft pith about 1/4"-1/2" in diameter so should be easily identified.

    i'm in burnham and want to sell my 084 with a 3' bar and chain. it has been converted to aspen and i've a 5L bottle with it... PM me if you are interested.

    i don't think my mate was a chuffed as me as i've never done anything like it before... not sure how long it took as it was done in dribs and drabs over a period of weeks to months. if you want a stick mate i still have the prototype if you are interested? i made it for the right hand and is made of catalpa which is remarkably strong given that it seems such a soft timber.

    never heard of an arbutus negundo??? arbutus unedo is what i know as strawberry tree and are fairly common in the south of the UK. i see them trimmed regularly but i think coppicing is a bit extreme for it. pollarding might be better?

    interested in that thick shorter length in the middle on the right. i'd trade you something for it if you like?

    no, i believe they are a whole branch that has the bark stripped and they use the section that was part of the tree to act as the knob end whereas mine was a 4" thick stem that i quartered and the knob is where there was a branch out from that stem. apparently there is a difference? like i care, it was something different to make and i had fun doing it...

    i've known this tree my whole life and never seen a fruit on it but since the move it is literally round the corner now so can check later in the year.

    goes with my train of thought but that must mean that there are some non fruiting varieties then as i've never seen any sort of fruit on this tree.

    in burnham high street and i'm guessing its a fruit tree of sorts. the bark is actually very dark not pale like the close up pic. .
