  1. but it's my favorite....
  2. i've sent you personal messages with my number....
  3. well it's definitely a maple species but without a leaf it could be tricky to positively ID it but i'm going with my original hunch of field maple (acer campestre).
  4. end grain is needed really mate, i'm leaning more toward african mahogany or sapele now.
  5. yep, london plane but how did he swallow that whole??
  6. without you cleaning up the endgrain or planing the surface i can't give a 100% answer but it just looks like genuine mahogany to me...
  7. do you mean i got it right??? it's a timber i love and was suspecting that the wish may have been the father of the thought as i've never seen a mature specimen and was not sure if i had identified it correctly?
  8. i'd be happy with that as a first attempt mate, nice one.
  9. on the first image i thought it may have been a field maple which is a timber i love but i'm not so sure now. if it is an oak it's the twistiest i've ever seen.
  10. please take a picture of the end of a branch you've cut off so i can see the end grain. if it's oak it should be pretty obvious.
  11. eerm, it'a tree...
  12. as long as you can confirm that they are from this tree then some pics of the leaves shed on the floor would be great... if it is what i hope it is then i'll take it.
  13. if it gets cut up could i have a bit of the trunk as a sample and some to turn? 3-4' would do.
  14. cheer up ya miserable sod i know they are all tricks and i know how some are done but i do admire the execution of the performance... i just thought people would like to see it.
  15. watch the rest and find out.
  16. can you do those tricks then?
  17. i was going to offer you something for that if it didn't sell. looks a nice bit of wood and we don't get too much elm down this way.
  18. a spectacular performer but she is a witch...
  19. finished or are you just supplying a bit of wood? i did a beech mantle at about 5' long and charged £75. i only sanded the faces and gave it one coat of oil so no hard labour went into it.
  20. yes it would be like a short mace but sold as a pair rather than one big mace. they are fairly accurate as i turn them for a retailer. and like to keep them within 50-100 grams of the required weight and each other. i've some heavy industrial timbers i wanted to use but am not sure what weights people would like? the handles would look like these so they can be held on to...
  21. i wasn't thinking of copying the handle in wood. i was thinking more like this (but in wood). the ball could be up to 7" diameter and the handle would be up to 8" long. i thought it would help with forearm muscle building and grip???
  22. would there be a market for a cannonball with a short handle? it would look like a huge lollipop.
  23. i've been making the indian clubs and persian meels that go along with the kettlebell fitness scene and understand just how useful these items can be for rehabilitation and regaining muscle. they are fun to make too. i wonder if i could make something similar to a kettle bell? .
  24. i'd have said it was a stunning olive ash...
  25. i can amend your knowledge here then david, maybe none of the bigger companies get them from poland but there are companies who sell oak from poland over here and have been for years. i was timports first customer for planks (they sell logs too) and all of it comes from his cousins sawmill in the forests of poland. i doubt they are the only one. https://www.timports.co.uk/
