  1. About two months ago I quoted a very old ash pollard just wanted lifting to let the light in and a few other things to do in the garden. I priced the job higher than normal as the job was out my area at £750 I didn't expect to get the job. The next guy to come round kicked the bottom of the tree said it was dead and quoted 4k for a take down The customer is 101 years old! I hate it when people take advantage:thumbdown: The tree was fine although I might get a call soon now.

  5. Congratulations! I have a 7week old girl Your in for a heck of a night it's very weird and very wonderful I would say you should get some sleep but that will be out the window from now on you get used to it . . . sort of Happy times ahead bro enjoy
  6. Yeah not sure what a reduction like that would achieve But that aside I was wondering on the best options As far as I know no damage is visible or has been found - tree is close tho I would say the tree was an important tree for the road it's quite prominent

  8. Soil round our way is clay/chalk/flint if that helps (I know that's not an in depth analysis)
  9. a new neighbour moved in down the road and has a silver birch very close to his house and a surveyor has said he needs this tree reduced (30%)the worry is it will take up to much water and could cause damage to the house. he has talked to me about it and i said i would ask you guys/gals for your thoughts the tree is actually in the property next door and has a top on it allegedly. its a fine looking silver birch sorry for poor pics

Hi woodmouse From your posts you sound like you got the enthusiasm and drive and have the means to set yourself up very nicely Arbtalk is fantastic for information and you can find advice and opinions on about pretty much everything arb related so search away and get addicted like the rest of us I would say immerse yourself with books on theory Loads of great threads on recommended books to get Yes it can be a very trying industry but with time and hard graft and a love for it anything is possible Hope all goes well Oh I wouldn't advertise as an Arborphile
