  1. Do feel like its an invasion It looked like around 50 birds at one point and they are a raucous bunch Nice pics Jon like the woodpecker having a drink And your tits look rather nice (longtailed)
  2. Meopham/Culverstone in Kent I've heard/seen them for probably about 5 years 3 miles down the road but not had them hear yet and in the last week we have had flocks of them As pretty as they are I do wonder what kind of affect they are going to have on our natives in the next 10/20 years they seem very prolific and they are munching on the hornbeam in the garden. I guess they will eat a variety of nuts and seeds
  3. a load of these chaps turned up in the garden
  4. Aha I knew they existed nice one woody Paul

  10. I think your right treepuncher that's what supposed to happen its just that it some times doesn't . . .
  11. MattyF that is £10 well spent
  12. Cheers mate that's very kind of you I'll keep the offer in mind I do have a large amount of conifers to come down on a job I got coming up

  13. You are a true gent sir
  14. Silky, lady's like it when you fill the wine glass right to the brim
  15. Yes the dreaded flint Fortunately only come across this a few times but it's always been low down in codominant stems or the like Metal is almost a daily find even if it's an old bird box nail Befor the pics come I know their will be a random brick halfway up a tree some ones found
  16. It's called an allistec rob d sells them their designed for detecting metel in timber for milling. I think the depth is 8" but I think it picks up deeper depending on the size of the piece I would think stuff up to 25/30" diameter you would pick up just about everything in the tree useing the detector running it right round the tree On larger stuff it's just going to reduce the risk All in I think it's well worth it to reduce hitting metal saving chains and time sharpening. It's not cheap I think it was about £160 but it pays for itself in a year or so I'm always finding metal in the area I work in so it's well worth it
  17. I got fed up with hidden surprises and invested in a metal detector Now I check the stem from the ground as far as I can reach and mark any metal found I haven't hit metal since I've had it so don't get misshapen file hand hardly ever
  18. And thats why I will probably just buy one I can get steel from my sister inlaws family buisness so get a good deal As for time nothing better than welding stuff together when your not up a tree I know the design is probably harder to put together than it looks that's why I was interested if anyone had made one with success
  19. Ok Used one regularly when I worked for my old employer and found it ok Found that it can take a lot off if your not careful but that can help sometimes when you got a real wrecked chain Some one told me once that it can make the teeth brittle as they get heated up but not sure on that for £30 it might be worth satisfying your curiosity to find your preference Personally I always go back to a normal hand file and try to hone the skill of getting the chain spot on One day ill be quicker at it
  20. The stein arbor trolley is a great bit of kit but I'm yet to see a home made arbor trolly. I don't own a stein one a d probably will end up buying one but when I look at it I'm always saying to myself I should just make one of those. I saw the thread "arbor trolly eat your heart out" and liked the towing capabilities. So has any body made their own? Have I missed a thread on this? I'm not knocking the stein trolly or price I'm just interested in anybody's home made trolleys
  21. Hi testcricket is that a home made arb trolly?
  22. Yeah that's what I was thinking. I better tell my wife I need an 880
  23. I have an Alaskan but have it on a 660 with 36" bar so can only cut about 28" diameter I was thinking that this was probably about as far as I could stretch the 660 but do you think I could fit a bigger bar and rails rob d? maybe I could get a bit more out of it?
  24. I'll see if I can check out the the other tree I'm sure i have read about it but how do I test if the clay is shrinkable or not?
  25. These things happen The houses in this road were built in the 60s and the road is silver birch avenue So I wonder if this tree was planted because of the name or the road name after the tree(s) I'll see if I can get some better pics and a couple measurements
