I do see the benefits of ivy ecologically speaking but it does swamp trees when it covers it like that Cutting at source will definitely stop it I know a lot of people don't like stripping ivy out of trees because it's a pain but I find it quite satisfying once you get it started (depending on how it has grown) you can tear big lumps off to start then pick the branches clean with a silky

  6. You can get the bs3998 tree work recommendations a concise guide from tree life for about £30 quid or so Its not the full copy but it's what I got until I can get hold of a cheaper version of the full bs3998 which I do think the AA are tying to make happen Not sure if that helps or not

  14. went to france earlier in the year near bordeaux stayed in a caravan/holiday home park and very nice it was in the park pretty much every tree had previous work done to them and had very noticeable defects alot i presume from machinery when the park was formed. it made for an interesting walk around i was interested by the white "paint" like mold on some of the trees im just learning about all these things any thoughts would be appreciated (sorry the pictures aren't more interesting to the more advanced)

  23. this plane had been cut down in a town (not my job i just walk by it a couple times a week) stump was left 3/4 foot high and in the past few weeks with the regrowth on the stump this week i noticed the mildew this is mildew yes? i thought the process was quite quick the tree didn't have anything on it before it was taken down
  24. inspired by the tutorial i got hold of the tools from one of the web sites on this thread (had a forestry axe already) split a bit of birch and this was my first attempt of carving anything ever except maybe a sharp point on a stick. i know the handle is different it just evolved like that thanks for the making the time for the tutorial
  25. im still working on my tree identification is this a myrobalan plum (cherry plumb) ? customer said flowers are white and the fruit is green the bark looks like cherry to me but I'm not sure am i way off?
