Something I read today that could concern a lot us us. “There is growing concern in the EU from several Market Surveillance Authorities (MSAs) that top handle chain saws are being offered for general sale to members of the public instead of being restricted to professionals. Therefore, MSAs have placed an item on the agenda of the Machinery Directive Working Group administrative committee meeting in June to discuss the banning of such products. As you may know up until recently the UK has been portrayed as a shining example of how the industry selfregulates in this area. However, it would seem that the position is changing with some of these products being offered for sale on the open market.” That is all the info I have ATM but hopefully some of you can shed a bit more light on the subject. It does say its only being discussed in June and I dont know how long these things take but I hope we all will have a chance to voice our opinions on the matter.

Has a simple pressure/vacuum test been carried out? I would have presumed it has but sometimes simple things can be over looked. Ie slight air leak around base gasket or intake manifold.

Jon, just go and buy the 560!!!! You post in every 560 thread, you know you have to get one. Just see your local dealer on Monday, hand the dosh over and be done with it. Read the manual and run it up as it says as that sets up the autotune. You know it makes sense.

Lyon the Uk Petzl distributors have now issued the recall of the zigzag. There will be a pack sent out to customers who have purchased the zigzag with instructions on how to claim for a refund. We will post more details later today.

Just a quick update to say we have received an email to say that Petzl are still working on a solution to the problem which they should publish later in May.

Due to a very recent email (received 30 mins ago) sales of the zigzag are now halted and it is recommended to stop using the zigzag until further notice. d22.pdf

I can understand the concern and it may be prudent to hold off buying one until Petzl release there final results on Tuesday 23rd April. We are still climbing with one and using a Beal pinch to keep the carabiner secure. We are also sending a Beal pinch out FOC to customers who have already bought a zigzag from us and are giving one away free with every zigzag purchase. It will be interesting to see the results as they have tried side loading the zigzag as per the information from the accident but havent been able to replicate the failure.

Is it just the mobile app your having problems with? Hopefully you can get the pic below but it is nothing new just the statement already posted in the zigzag failure thread. Just posting it here as it was getting lost in that thread and Petzl do want people who purchased the zigzag to see the statement.

We asked them today about this and up to now there is no information about what or if anything happened. If there is any news it will be posted on the petzl web sites and facebook pages, plus all the dealers will be informed etc as soon as possible.

Don't steam clean it, you will cause more problems than you solve. Pro saws need far less cleaning than you think.

Sorry for the late reply. I have been using this 60cm sling Lyon Protective Sling with a treeflex harness. It allows me to get a full reach reach on pulling and I can just about reach the top of the zigzag. If you have a longer bridge it may be just too long but then I am only 5 foot 7 so it does depend on your arm length etc We also have them available in 18mm with no protective sheath which is a fair bit cheaper Lyon Webbing Sling

Took delivery of 2 and 4 stroke Aspen today. We have the 2 stroke in 1 and 5 litre cans and the 4 stroke in just 5 litre for now. We dont have it up on the web site ATM as we need to work out the additional courier cost and work it into the price, so its only available in the shop for now. Look forward to trying it out it out myself.

Will be interesting to try it out for myself tbh. We dont have the footfall through the door to shift a pallet just yet. Making it available to the local area is a start so with a bit of advertising, advising and availability hopefully it will be a product we can invest in.

Well I suppose there is nothing to loose by giving it a shot since there is no big first order. I did look into stocking aspen when we set up last year but tbh it got sidelined as I dont think its something we will sell a lot of ATM, but a small first order to see if theres interest is worth doing. Might be a bit more than 3 5 litre cans but deffo not 54! I will give you a call over the next few days Eddie or drop me an email etc.

I didnt mean that it was only for 'experts' more so that if he is new to tree climbing it might put him off right from the start:laugh1: It sounds like he wants it as basic and cheap as poss so prussik and 13mm will be the best and easiest to use combo IMO. Good to see your helping him out with a climb,as its easier to pass on expertise and knowledge face to face rather than over a keyboard.

Have you tried climbing on aeris? No offence but I wouldn't recommend it for the OP. A nice cheap 13mm will do you fine.

Nope. Need to remove both coils then just one bolt holding it onto the crank.

You need to remove the flywheel as the magnets are inside. The magnet you are probably looking at is for the ignition coils etc.

Ive spoken to numerous beer drinking fat blokes, someones sisters,uncles, friend of a neighbours brother and a taxi driver who used to be a tree surgeon and they all agree that it will be released definitely with out a doubt on a Monday. As for Husky, they dont know! Speaking to a few guys from Husky last week at a conference and the earliest is going to be May, maybe. They have more T540XP's being trialled(25 of them) which should finish the end of this month, so all being well it could be 4-6 weeks from then. Basically the 020T set the standard and trying to get a saw as compact and as powerful while still meeting emission regs is very, very difficult. Hopefully when/If it does come out it will be a stormer of a saw and it better have no running issues or reliability problems whatsoever!
