  1. Going to add a couple of pounds to a cube of logs but it makes sense. Far too much abuse of the current rules
  2. Probably a stupid question but will the forestry commission not stop us from decimating our woodlands? Sure supply and demand will push prices up but hopefully production will remain stable
  3. It sure will and the the fishermen and the construction industry. I get that taxation can encourage us down the EV and renewables rout but there are no electric tractors or fishing boats. Did see an electric digger but it was not a serious replacement for busy contractors.
  4. Grabber ATs having been on BF ATs. Cant tell the difference in use but a big difference in price. The BFs are not what they were as the treads are now shallower to comply with noise legislation (according to local tyre firm)
  5. Do you think we have? Genuine question
  6. China pollution clears amid coronavirus slowdown WWW.BBC.CO.UK Nasa says major decreases in nitrogen dioxide levels are "at least partly" linked to the outbreak.
  7. But that is not what we are debating I do wonder if there are varying growth characteristics to SC. I dont think half of us are wrong so there must be another explanation. Honestly the only SC I have had I would trade for some douglas or larch any day when comes to its use as fuel.
  8. One of its problems its a light for a hardwood. Just cut some identical sized samples of dry chestnut, ash, and beech. The ash is the lightest I have had. Big J commented on how light it was. The chestnut is not as much lighter than I thought it would be but its still 20% lighter than beech and this will be reflected in its energy output
  9. Fire wood snob here. Its a B to dry but is a doddle to process. Never had any problems with it spitting but its about the only wood I have had a customer complaint about. It just doesn't give off a lot of heat for it volume. When I have some I make sure it well mixed in the loads avoiding anyone getting much of it. Shame as it grows fast and the easiest wood I have ever put through a processor.
  10. If you go for a Farmi make sure you get the log lifter extra. No need to load the logs individually onto the feed deck. We set up a couple of old telegraph poles at a slope to the machine. Load the poles up with all your lengths and roll them onto the lifter. Get a decent log pick to aid rolling them down to the machine.
  11. Perfect poles and no moving the logs 16 tonne lorry load is doable. I have yet to have perfect poles but have done 16 tonnes several times for biomass logs ie chunky and long. Normal day with the usual twisty hardwood and one helper with loader we do nearer 12 tonne of domestic sized logs
  12. 2015 model so thats working at half speed. It should go forward as fast as it returned unless under heavy load then it slows and increases power. Easy adjustment to fix it
  13. Sounds like an old model or it was not working properly. The ones I have used have a 2 speed ram with 3.5 second cycle time
  14. 6.5k would get you a SH Farmi WP36 I dont know the Rock machinery processor but a 20T ram is more than likely to have a slow cycle time killing productivity. Better to get a few refusals on a fast but less powerful machine IMO.
  15. Wish my table saw was accurate, I dare only do basic straight cuts on mine. But then again I've only got a basic metabo site saw. If it makes you feel better I waited a long time before being able to purchase a precision piece of kit. Metabo kit is normally pretty good to be fair
  16. Type Biomass into ebay. Also seen several on Facebook and as mention most of them are Glen Farrow units.
  17. Anyone know? It seems very strange that at a time when kilning is going to be in huge demand there are lots and lots of kilns with many years left on the RHI for sale.
  18. A mate of mine has the 562 and I am on the 560. We did a side by side test and his 562 seems to have more grunt
  19. Thanks Mark. To be honest this was not too bad. The effort was in making sure the wood was machined perfectly flat and square and being fortunate to have a very accurate table saw.
  20. Trying to not let it get us down but we have had half a meter of rain this year! Added on to the 840mm we had from the 21st of sept until Jan 1 its safe to say its been a tad soggy
  21. Yes, if they had gone for 25% there would have been far more firms trying to comply. As it is many will give up or just go under the radar IMO. To go from no regulation at all to a tough if not near impossibly target without a kiln in one step seem plain daft. Some good friends have just got out of the stove selling market and I think they have made a smart call as the costs of logs will have to go up and could go up a lot in areas where kilning will be the only option.
  22. I have one to fit but the instructions seem to indicate the insulated wire shouldn't touch the engine housing. Quite tricky to fit and have the cable suspended above the engine????
  23. Knowing the angles is the easy bit. They are 11.25 degrees but cutting could have been tricky. My table saw can tilt and has a gauge on it for the angles but only to the nearest degree. I set it to 11 and a bit and did a test with some gash softwood. These things normally take a bit of trial and error to set up but surprisingly got lucky and it was spot on first time. It had to be as the client has had one of these made by someone else but it was a bit squiffy in it's radius so he rejected it.
  24. Yes and we get bad weather in winter ?
  25. Bingo. Its the outer part of a praxinoscope. Praxinoscope - Wikipedia EN.WIKIPEDIA.ORG Not sure if eggs needs to pay up as his mate is pretty close.
