  1. Gardening and growing more of our veg. Dad always took great pleasure in growing his own veg and I hope to find that same pleasure. Not to mention with the way the everyone is stockpiling some home grow food may be a bit more than just a cathartic exercise!
  2. My workings from a few years ago
  3. And no end in sight. I cant really get my head around whats going to happen to the markets. Manufacturing of non essential is screwed for 12 months or more I would guess. Mind you big gains to made in pharmaceuticals stocks especially any ones that develop a vaccine!
  4. Had loads of orders come in over the last few days but had to decline some due low stocks. Crystal ball gazing is tricky. If private pensions dont collapse I think there will be plenty of wealthy retired wanting logs but if pension funds go down the pan..................
  5. That is the best of both worlds
  6. Bare in mind there are other environmental elements at play. A paper bag requires far more carbon to make than a plastic one. Odd but true. Whats the carbon footprint of the a hessian sack by comparison? One would hope when we disposing of plastic in the UK it's not ending up in the oceans but more likely incineration or landfill. Not Ideal but not the horror show we see with oceans deep in plastic I have got quite few customers now returning their nets for reuse
  7. TCD is fine just struggling with the weather like the rest of us
  8. First 3 customers I spoke with about this were all happy to take 2 cube loads and they would find space for the extra cube. Sure it will vary around the country as to how much customers can take at a time
  9. So this is it together. Not sure I can show a little video without the hassle of downloading it to youtube
  10. I went for a Felder universal. Its a small workshop so it seemed the best option for accurate in a tight space
  11. It does seem absurd. It looks like all they care about is the keeping the business/trade cash cow running and if it costs lives thats a price they are happy with. While China the supposedly bad guy in most things has basically shut down the country to contain it which if the numbers are to be believed they are doing pretty well at. Gary your situation sounds truly horrible but fingers crossed for you.
  12. Its funny when they just stand in the doorway and give you that look saying "you have got to be kidding mate"
  13. I was supposed to be going to a kitchen show this week and organisers were pretty nervous about things and had set up video chat systems for many of the firms who were over from China. Lots of extra washing points being provided etc. To be honest with a vulnerable dad who depends on me for help I passed on going but very impressed with the organisers who were taking the risks very seriously. I think we are in for a pretty bleak year sadly
  14. Going to add a couple of pounds to a cube of logs but it makes sense. Far too much abuse of the current rules
  15. Probably a stupid question but will the forestry commission not stop us from decimating our woodlands? Sure supply and demand will push prices up but hopefully production will remain stable
  16. It sure will and the the fishermen and the construction industry. I get that taxation can encourage us down the EV and renewables rout but there are no electric tractors or fishing boats. Did see an electric digger but it was not a serious replacement for busy contractors.
  17. There is this https://nottenergy.com/resources/energy-cost-comparison/
  18. It will depend what you have to pay for the logs and the efficiency of the instal which can vary drastically. We have a ground source heat pump (GSHP) and it's cheaper to run that for the heating and sell the logs. Not that we do this as we love a fire and there are always some dodgy logs we would rather not sell so we use them in combination with the GSHP
  19. Grabber ATs having been on BF ATs. Cant tell the difference in use but a big difference in price. The BFs are not what they were as the treads are now shallower to comply with noise legislation (according to local tyre firm)
  20. I dont think thats the case for all. Sure if you have mains gas its a luxury no question but we deliver to many who are either on oil or some who have no other form of heating other than wood. In this relatively rural area I would estimate only 25% have mains gas
  21. Do you think we have? Genuine question
  22. China pollution clears amid coronavirus slowdown WWW.BBC.CO.UK Nasa says major decreases in nitrogen dioxide levels are "at least partly" linked to the outbreak.
  23. But that is not what we are debating I do wonder if there are varying growth characteristics to SC. I dont think half of us are wrong so there must be another explanation. Honestly the only SC I have had I would trade for some douglas or larch any day when comes to its use as fuel.
  24. One of its problems its a light for a hardwood. Just cut some identical sized samples of dry chestnut, ash, and beech. The ash is the lightest I have had. Big J commented on how light it was. The chestnut is not as much lighter than I thought it would be but its still 20% lighter than beech and this will be reflected in its energy output
  25. Fire wood snob here. Its a B to dry but is a doddle to process. Never had any problems with it spitting but its about the only wood I have had a customer complaint about. It just doesn't give off a lot of heat for it volume. When I have some I make sure it well mixed in the loads avoiding anyone getting much of it. Shame as it grows fast and the easiest wood I have ever put through a processor.
