I would be staggered if they did. It is like a different world here this week not that movement alone will create transmission but you can see how lax many are now being as it feels closer to the old normal. Love to be wrong on this though.

I clearly am not explaining my point very well. To get herd immunity in any sensible timeframe we need more than are currently infected to keep passing it on. We wont have a lot people infected at any one time if we do keep the R below 1 as they have promised. Does that make sense?

It might well be the way but why did they say they will keep the R below 1? We now have a lowish amount of the population infected so if we stay at a similar level it will take and age to get herd immunity. Never going to get down to low levels where track and trace will work on current plan and wont be able to get herd immunity quickly without the R going a fair bit higher for a while. They just seem to have made a rod for their own back if what you say is the plan

So what will follow? The government has said it will keep the R below 1 yet its was barely below that a few weeks back. Will they lockdown again or just bluster that this is the plan? Cant suss out what they are up to as it makes no sense. If they want us to get herd immunity why say we will keep the R below 1 If the really want to keep the R below 1 why open up so much and so fast?

Not much will change for us but will be nice to go up and see the in-laws. Really like to go camping on Skye again.

Father in law just gave us all a fright. High temp and feeling really grotty. We sent him a pulse oximeter as this went on for a few days. His blood oxygen was low so got them to call 111. Off for a Covid test that day. Came back negative but still not well. Called 111 again and a nurse practitioner came out to him and reckoned it was a false negative and he probably did have the virus. Off to covid ward in hospital. Second test also came back negative. Turns out he had bacterial phenomena which is not nice but at least treatable. Back home thankfully now after a hefty dose of antibiotics and on the mend. Convinced all of us that he had the dreaded. Really sorry to read about your mate who died Mark.

Exactly whats happening The only snag is they have assured us they wont allow the R to get above 1. How will they avoid that one?

Only had flu once but knew all about it. It was back in 2010 and brought back asthma which I had not suffered with for years. Get a flu shot each year now. "Do you think I may have had flu or even C19 and not realized ?" No idea if you get asymptomatic flu carriers but no doubt you can have Covid 19 without knowing. They tested all the staff at Liz's work and 2 came back positive and they had no symptoms whatsoever. This is part of why it is tricky to contain as you can have no symptoms but pass it onto another and kills them! In the German study in my link 20% of carriers were asymptomatic

Reading and interesting study from Germany this morning. If it's right and the UK is similar we might be a long way down the road to herd immunity. ONS stats say there have been 50000 excess deaths (presumably from Covid?) and you could extrapolate that maybe 13 million of us may have had it! I really should go and cut some logs instead of trying to understand this stuff ?

It can be a beautiful creamy white in colour. As said very close grain and dense. Make great inlay and detailing. It's tricky to dry as you need to dry any boards quickly or the lovely colour is lost and goes a bit green if dried slowly.

"Providing the NHS doesn’t become overwhelmed" there is our big problem. Hospitals still have plenty of patients from the first round still on the wards. For some recovery is a very slow process so it wont take much to overwhelm NHS. We may have built new buildings but you cant train all the extra staff overnight. Boris mentions the R cant go back over 1 again so unless we are super "alert" we will be straight back into lockdown. Mind you they say the R is between 0.5 or 0.9 so glad they narrowed that down!

Let's face it he is to blame for how bad it is in the country. We had the advantage of hindsight but sat back and watched it take country by country and did nothing. China went from dealing with a never before seen virus to having it pretty much under control in 3 months. Ministers said they went to meeting to discuss it in January but 5 months on its rife in the UK. Not condoning the markets in China that enabled this virus to cross species but their subsequent handling puts us to shame.

We can if we want but that wont protect our friends and family. To be fair they did tell us to stay at home, food shop as little as possible and clean our hands. As a nation we did that for a few weeks but last time I went out for a food shop it was like lockdown was over! Yes the government has been pathetic and ineffectual but it in our hands to tackle this. I think most know what we have to do we just have to do it. I defended the government to start with thinking they must have some grand plan but that clearly is not the case. Feeling extra pissed off now as my father in law look like he may have gone down with it.

And Germany is not alone in bringing cases down dramatically once they started lockdown. Almost all countries who have brought in a lockdown have brought their cases down far faster than the UK. We have our selves to blame for that. If we could do a perfect lockdown there would be no cases in a just a fews weeks as the virus would never get a new host. But in reality loads of people dont understand what we are trying to do or simply dont care either way we keep getting lots of new infections. No idea what the answer is though. I would have had the army on the streets with the police in an attempt to enforce what we were supposed to be doing from the start but that might have brought about other problems.

Yes of course. Couldn't give a flying fig if big brother knows where I have been. They wouldn't find it very interesting anyway ? Been signed up the Covid tracker app from Kings College London for a month which helps them understand the spread of the virus ahead of people turning up in A and E.
