  1. completeley depends on the size of the stump grinder. A pepestrian one i cant see being worth more than £25 per hr with a minimum charge of £50.
  2. There is a chap on ebay called paul (sorry dont know how to do a link) and he sell s recon carbs for £50 or if you send yours off he will do it for £25. If you have a problem finding him (if u want to) pm me cos i have his number somewhere
  3. Looks like you had a great day and learnt a fair bit too i imagine. I will come up in a few weeks for that tour of kew we spoke about, that is if it is not too soon since your last visit. Perhaps you could teach me some of what you learnt from rob and tony?
  4. Cheers Hoggin. Can you tell by the exhaust fumes also?
  5. how do you tell/know if your saw is running too rich or too lean?
  6. I would not reccomend turning up with a 395, rather something around 50cc that is sharp! your saw does not need to be blunt to sharpen it. Also make sure it is legal and has all the safety features and a scabbard.
  7. Did you manage to get Tony and Rob in to the Botanist for light refreshments after a long days funghi hunting and general tree viewing?
  8. Awesome machine. Ideal for clearing beneath nat grid powerlines. Companies like this, need no considration for product.
  9. Also locally(ish) to you is landpower (gartells) in henstridge. They are timberwolf dealers and sell second hand machines. There phone number 01963 370654.
  10. Could you perhaps have taken the weight of branch using lowering kit, worn spikes for said branch, gotten further out on said branch to cut in smaller sections, used slings to choker to get foot hold, 2 anchor points for a better work position or simply reached out and slashed it off with a topper saw.
  11. There is a company i see around called 'The Tree Musketeers'.
  12. The haix blue mountains are comfy straight from the box and gore tex too. Has anyone had/tried the 'Pfanner Zermatt GTX' chainsaw boot? They look really comfortable.
  13. You will not see the badgers. Done loads of work near and around badger setts and never have i seen them. Do give natural england a call to cover your back though mate. Try and get it in writing, if not make a record of who you speak to, from which office and the date.
  14. The meindl air streams are good boots, have just bought a pair and like them alot. The other boots i was looking at were the klima air. They look really comfy much like walking boots. They have an aluminium toe cap so nice and light and are gore-tex lined so 100% waterproof. At a little over £200 they are quite expensive, though over 2 years might be worth the extra ££'s.
  15. Generally i'm pretty chilled out but occasionally i can lose it. When the ms200t first had carb problems, mine was fairly new and played up and i lobbed it as far as i cold from the top of the mewp.....But the best one must be only a couple of years ago when i had a newly recruited apprentice. The hedgecutters, i sharpened, greased each cutter by hand, cleaned air filter etc etc, showing him all the way...would they start after this? NO, for some reason i just lost it with them, kicking them up n down the road with me steely's. God knows what he thought at the time, he'd only been on a week or 2!!
  16. Tony Thornton of affordable access will sort you out i am sure. He is based in Romsey and hires out arb trucks, mewps, avants, polaris' all sorts, long and short term at decent rates. Feel free to tell him i gave you his number 07802 390801, 01794 521177.
  17. I dont see any problem with a few bevvies on way home (not condoning drink driving), the littering however is completely unacceptable:thumbdown:
  18. keep yer fingers out of the squashing bits when its squashing
  19. Old mill tree, that cypress is all one tree, an incredible tree. Quite a few transit loads there!
  20. Really touched by all the comments paul and you are always more than welcome down here with our family. Harper is desperate to see the thread but unfortunatey she will have to wait until tomorrow now. I will sort a couple of days work for in a month or two and then we can visit the tisbury yew tree and the yew woodland near hod hill.
  21. Just had a fantastic weekend with silky who came down to dorset to help me with a job on the saturday. We had a multi stemmed ash to section and rig and a poplar to crown raise. All went well and silky's work ethic is brilliant, always finding the simplest and quickest way to do things. For anyone needing an extra pair of hands, i cannot reccomend paul highly enough and look forward to the next time we get the opportunity to work together. Work complete and so it was to the antelope inn for an evening of beer tasting sampling many of the local ales and cider the pub had to offer! I am sure silky will be posting the pics v soon. I look forward to our next meeting, perhaps a guided tour through kew gardens. Cheers paul
